Re: Brooklyn Nets 2016-17 season Pick Watch Thread
Why do people continue to act like Anthony Davis is on the trading block? We could package the number 1 pick with IT, Horford, and four of our banners and the Pels still hang up on us. The pick is not landing us a top 5-10 player. Might as well keep it and draft one of the many potential stars in this class.

You don't consider Boogie in the 5-10 range, at least?

Not sure. He's probably somewhere around there, maybe on the outside looking in. I don't think the Kings give him up for the pick straight up though. They would probably want at least both Brooklyn picks.

Hey guys, Magic fan here looking to blow the team up. Would you consider moving the Brooklyn pick for Serge Ibaka?

Well, I guess he's right about the absence of a potential all-time great like Shaq, Duncan, LeBron, etc, but this is one of the deepest drafts at the top. If there's any incentive to ensure a top 3/5 pick it's this season with Markelle Fultz, Dennis Smith jr, Josh Jackson, perhaps Lonzo Ball and potentially Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum who haven't set a foot on the court yet.
We'll see. Mark Cuban is a smart man and he'll pull the plug if those prospects look like the real deal, at least I would. But perhaps I don't value their "many young guys" the same way he does, who's he even talking about?
Nets have the least talented team in the league and so far Philadelphia and the Suns look like the only contenders for the worst record in my opinion if Cuban refuses to tank. A starting lineup of Deron Williams, Wesley Matthews, Harrison Barnes, Dirk Nowitzki and Andrew Bogut will win enough games.

As deep as this draft is I think Lonzo Ball is the best the C's should get. I'm tired of the undersized draft danny does everytime. Eventhough fultz is beasting the scoreboard I think ball is better overall and would be a great partner to brown.

Just as a basketball fan I hope those guys stay healthy and have awesome runs. I'd put Davis first by a bit and Kristaps a distant 4th in ranking them, but it's quite a wave of next-generation height!
I know I sound like a broken record but I put Giles squarely in this tier of big men. IMO he's that good
He was that good....we will see what he is after two major knee reconstructions but Im not holding my breath.
This isn't 1984. So long as there's not a post-surgery complication, at his age he should make a full recovery. The risk is more whether there is something structural about his gait / body that makes him more likely to put strain on those ligaments.
It's early, but the top 3 for me look like Fultz, Giles and Ball. Josh Jackson is older and seems duplicative to Brown in so many ways. Have not seen Dennis Smith or Jayson Tatum play though so definitely nothing set in stone. The good thing about Fultz / Ball / Giles is they all could have Day 1 roles on this team, whereas if we take a SG/SF, I'm not sure how they see the floor.

I don't.
I think he might be capable of being in the mix for that 8-10 range on his best days, but as is he is a mixed bag on defense and a (very) high volume, mediocre efficiency scorer who has major effort and reliability issues. Type 6-7 guys to me look like LeBron, Curry, Kawhi, Durant, George, Harden, probably westbrook and then fill in from there. No way IMO has Cousins ever outplayed any of those guys best days.

God no. I would have an interest in Ibaka, but that price is way to high. It looks like his best years could be behind him and he is a FA. I would give filler and Memphis Pick (2019), along with Clippers pick (2019). I wouldn't mind thinking about him in Free agency either, but he is not worth a Brooklyn pick.

Well the story on Jackson is, he will be ready defensively right out of the gate which I could see as a draw for the Cs. Smart would shift to PG only and Rozier would have to be dealt to make room giving you a Smart/Jackson/Brown lineup off the bench which is much larger than your starting lineup. Personally I'd keep the status quo at the 1-3 spots and roll the dice on Giles immense talent. We praised DA for making a home run swing with Jaylen Brown, this year is no time to play it safe either. If they don't deal the pick it has to be Giles

When the Mavs get Dirk back and Sixers get Noel while unrestricting Embiid's minutes, they're going to get much better while all the Nets have to look forward too is getting back Lin. Those are the only two teams with a record currently worse than the Nets.
Sixers getting Simmons back will make a huge difference as well. I really think they'll finish near 30 wins this season.

Not a chance in hell, Ibaka has nowhere near this value and he never did even when he was in his prime 4 years ago.

Acquiring Ibaka would only make sense in the off-season if we somehow find a way to add another legit star. At that point I would consider it, but his age question does scare me. He is guy heavily dependent on his athletic gifts.

I think this is still an interesting thing to explore. Only top end player right now with an acl reconstruction is Lowry. Will keep an eye on Jabari, but his athleticism looks damn good right now. Don't think this is one of those slam dunks for modern medical advancements yet, though. Have seen too many people just from our team alone completely sapped- Rondo, Perk, Powe, Jefferson. Tony Allen a unique case. Wonder if he could've been a 2 way star.

Blake Griffin blew his knee out too if I remember correctly
Edit : broken kneecap and subsequent surgery caused him to miss his entire rookie season

Maybe you were thinking the Brooklyn pick would be in the mid teens? I've seen a mock draft from the last couple of weeks that had us around 13, for instance.
Either that, or you're trolling us.
