Nets are home for 4 of their next 5. Next 10 games:

vs. LAC
vs. MIL
@ MIL
vs. WAS
vs. DEN
@ SAS
@ HOU
vs. LAL
@ ORL
@ PHI

Call me crazy, but looks like they could eke out 4 wins in that stretch. Bucks, Wiz, Denver are all winnable home games, and they can probably steal one of @ORL/@PHI. Even with 4 wins in the next 10, that would put them on a 25-win pace, but something to keep an eye on.

Maybe you were thinking the Brooklyn pick would be in the mid teens? I've seen a mock draft from the last couple of weeks that had us around 13, for instance.

Either that, or you're trolling us. 8-)

You think this is bad, the bucks board thinks they can get the Brooklyn pick, Crowder AND Bradley for Jabari Parker. Woof.

You're crazy. :). But seriously they've gotten their doors blown off for what, 6 games in a row now? They aren't even competitive at this point

When the Mavs get Dirk back and Sixers get Noel while unrestricting Embiid's minutes, they're going to get much better while all the Nets have to look forward too is getting back Lin. Those are the only two teams with a record currently worse than the Nets.

I've been reading for two seasons now that the picks wouldn't be great because the Nets had no reason to lose, as if that was more important than the terrible rosters they've put together in that time.

Writing was on the wall when they traded their second best player this summer for a pick in the 20s. Brook is as good as gone. They won't resign him to a max deal and they won't be any good while he's here. This has been the case all along, but it looks like the first of many bad streaks this season was needed for these facts to solidify.

edit: The stretch of games coming up is probably their easiest of the season. I don't really look at March and April because they're going to be playing out the string feeding heavy minutes to guys like McCullough and the rookies. It's basically already curtains on finishing outside the bottom 5 if they can't string a few wins together in those games, because after that Philly game things are pretty tough all the way through January.

Eh, I could see them winning some here. The only almost guaranteed losses on paper are the Spurs, Rockets and maybe Clippers (they're playing like garbage right now but who knows maybe they'll get back on pace).

Might as well keep it and draft one of the many potential stars in this class.

You don't consider Boogie in the 5-10 range, at least?

I don't.

I think he might be capable of being in the mix for that 8-10 range on his best days, but as is he is a mixed bag on defense and a (very) high volume, mediocre efficiency scorer who has major effort and reliability issues. Type 6-7 guys to me look like LeBron, Curry, Kawhi, Durant, George, Harden, probably westbrook and then fill in from there. No way IMO has Cousins ever outplayed any of those guys best days.

I would agree with you for the most part. At this point I think George is overrated on your list. Considering the needs of this team he would check most of the boxes, Stevens would truly have to earn his money by getting Cousins to buy into the Celtics' culture and game plan, but I do think that infrastructure is in place for Boogie to be a top ten talent in the league.

Yeah, looks like 3 or 4 wins to me. One of the home and home with Milwaukee. 1 of the Wash/Denver. 1 or 2 out of the final 3.

Fallowed by brutal 5 game strech against Raptors, Warriors, Cavaliers, Hornets, Bulls. 4-11 through December would be fine.

They are obviously going to win some games. Don't panic, they are still trash and will lose more than enough to have a top 3 spot in the lotto.

I would correct this to top 4. Philly, Phoenix and Dallas are all fully capable of finishing with a worse record. But in general I agree with you.

Well, I knew it was a longshot since Ibaka only has 1 year left, but thought you guys wouldn't want to pick another guy and wait for him to develop, like Jaylen Brown, since you already have so many solid players.

At some point you have to choose to win now

This is what I've continually been saying since the season began (actually we've really been saying this for a long time now as it was pretty apparent the Nets had no real avenue to improve over the last year or two). But hey, people want a reaction after a fluke game or two.

Dallas has a worse record, but should separate themselves from the Nets soon. They're not that bad with their guys back. Don't be surprised if the Mavs move up into the almost-playoffs category.

Philly is better with Ilyasova and will get better again as Embiid plays more.

Phoenix is bad but better than the Nets. They play hard and never tank.

Brooklyn will not lose all these games, but I wouldn't bet on them in any individual game against anyone, played anywhere. The Nets are wonderfully inept and delightfully poised to deliver a wheelbarrow full of ping pong combos.

They're the worst team in the NBA.

Same here.

I will also add that Philly is way better than everyone thinks they are. Just watch a game if you have the chance. They will start winning the occasional game soon imo.

Agree with this, with Simmons and Noel coming back as well they should have no problem surpassing Brooklyn, to me Dallas is still most worrisome followed by Phoenix

The Heat might be the team that gets the worst record. They're not making the playoffs, it's easy for them to lose by just DNPing Whiteside, Pat Riley is smart enough to know this and covets stars, and he's been rumored to be diabolical.

It all depends on how they decide to play it.

I think the takeaway here is that pick is shaping up to be top 5 at this point.
