How would you blow it up?
It's clear we won't make the playoffs or come close, so the wise thing to do is to blow it up.
How would you do it?
Who are your keepers?
--
As suggested by some members, I would try to trade Ibaka for the Brooklyn pick and fillers. Not sure the Celtics would do it because Ibaka only has this year left, but still worth making the phone call.
I would trade Vucevic for the Kings unprotected first, because Vlade seems to like Vucevic and they can try to make a run for the playoffs while not giving up on Cousins just yet.
I would trade Payton for a late 1st or 2nd rounder.
--
My keepers are Fournier (flawed but talented), Gordon (at the 4 spot) and Hezonja (hand him the starting position, I don't care how many mistakes he makes).
Augustin and Biyombo are a little older but they have decent contracts so I'd keep them around

Oh, and I'd find a coach that wants to play small ball. I'm sick of the 90s basketball

I totally and completely disagree. This team is losing games based on thorough incompetence at the SF slot.
So to answer the question, "How would you blow it up?", I think the start must be about gaining a capable starting SF. How to do that? Orlando's assets are Green's expiring, Gordon, Hezonja, Vučević and a draft pick. I think a package involving some of this players / picks for Porter Jr. is a path forward. The Magic must win now, and the Wizards need to retool to try to win next season.
To start a thought line, after the trade window opens, I imagine something like Porter Jr. and Mahinmi for Hezonja (or Gordon: Washington's choice), Green, Vučević and Orlando's 2018-1st.
Orlando becomes:
Payton/Augustin/Watson
Fournier/Meeks/Wilcox
Porter/Gordon/Rudež
Ibaka/Onuaku
Biyombo/Mahinmi/Zimmerman
The Magic still needs "something", but at least there is balanced scoring from the starters.
For Washington, not only is there an upgrade at C (swapping Mahinmi for Vučević, and an interesting project in Hezonja, there is an expiring deal to go after competence in the coming FA market (DC is an attractive city for FA's, after all). The 1st being delayed to 2018 allows Orlando to see who good/bad this roster would be, and is an interesting gamble for the Wizards as they look to future growth.

Re: How would you blow it up?
First I will fire Hennigan. Then promote Vogel as GM and Coach. Sell everybody! Draft or trade for a player with "real" talent and not an imaginary ones. Build around this player and if you're shrewd enough then make it two All Star talents. Look at Brandon Knight, Lou Williams, Tim Frazier, Rudy Gay, TJ Warren, Wilson Chandler, Terrence Ross, Jae Crowder, Gallinari, chase hard Zach Lavine and Jordan Clarkson via Trade. I will build my team with Zach and Jordan as cornerstone. Draft the best talent available in Fultz.
Clarkson / Fultz
Lavine
WChandler
TBooker
Bismack
I'll be OK with this.

Re: How would you blow it up?
One of the most complicated situations in the league, really, every way you are gonna move you gonna make it(if possible)even worse.
Main problem is the total absence of talent in those ones should be our future, after 4 years of rebuild;no one to build something on,bad veterans,a roster bad assembled, another new coach getting blamed.
depression and frustation starting building all around.
Normally you are in the situation you should total rebuild, but you can't;maybe the only way should a quick rebuild/retool but would be some sort of miracle make it with success.

Re: How would you blow it up?
-Fire Hennigan
-Name either Perry or Lloyd interim GM
-If they prove they can handle the GM duties and have a clear cut plan, promote them to GM
If I'm the GM:
-Trade Ibaka and Fournier to Boston for Amir Johnson, Jerebko, Zeller, and the Nets pick
-Trade Vucevic and a 2nd rounder to the Knicks for O'Quinn, Thomas, Knicks 1st rounder
-Trade Payton to Dallas for AJ Hammons and a 2nd Rounder
-Waive Johnson
-Waive Rudez
-Waive Onuaku
PG: Augustin/Watson
SG: Hezonja/Meeks
SF: Thomas/Green/Jerebko
PF: Gordon/O'Quinn/Zimmerman
C: Biyombo/Zeller/Hammons
That team is horrible enough to get a top 4 pick, plus you have the Nets pick incoming, as well as the Knicks pick. Maybe you find a gem in the second round. You have some nice projects going forward in Gordon, Zimmerman, and Hammons as well as Mario.
Only way to fix this is rebuild the rebuild.

Re: How would you blow it up?
#1 - Trade Ibaka for the best package. He isnt going to stay with Orlando. He has no ties, no reason to stick with a rebuilding team, he will want to go to a winner this summer which wont be us.
#2 - Hennigan has to go. His drafting has been bad, his signings/trades questionable. We need a competent GM, with a good history of either drafting or trades. And revamp our scouting department, because they have not earned their money.
#3 - Trade Vucevic. Like it or not, we are tied to Biyombo for awhile with that contract that he signed, higher than it should have been. Might as well embrace him as the starter and see what we can get for Vuc. I struggled with this a little. I would love for him to be that scoring punch off the bench, but i dont think that is a role he would embrace, possibly causing chemistry issues.
#4 - figure out what Vogel's issue is with Hezonja, but get him on the court. We have to see if there is really talent there. He doesnt have to be a starter, but a good 20 mpg is needed. Screw Green, Meeks, whoever, they wont be here next year anyways

Re: How would you blow it up?
I would keep payton.
He is our best player this season.
Also keep gordon but no more sf for him.
Pf is his spot. There he can deliver as he showed last year.
And let hezonja play.He showed last year that he has offensive talent.
Vogel sould play small ball

Re: How would you blow it up?
People want to give playing time to younger players, basically tank cause does not matter anymore at this point, then draft the better player possible with our pick and maybe some other pick acquired via trade at next draft;then restart with this core, new young players and some veterans.
My question:is frank vogel the ideal coach to do that?also thinking probably we are gonna have a new GM and(maybe,i hope)a new philosophy building the team?

Re: How would you blow it up?
1) trade Vuc and Ibaka for picks and young prospects
2) fire henny and promote Vogel to Coach/GM
3) start Elf, Evan, Mario, AG, Biz
4) let the tank began and get a stud in this years lottery

If Payton is the best player on your team, then you are a d-league franchise.
AG is a future NBA journeyman/ role player so lets stop saying this guy is starter quality in the NBA.
I wouldn't mind seeing what we have in Mario and if he continues playing awful, I am ok shipping him out to clear up the roster space for someone worthy.
God- we are talking about blowing high lottery picks year after year. At least Steven Hunter, Jerryl Sasser, and Reece Gaines weren't lottery picks!

Re: How would you blow it up?
I agree I think we need to blow the team up
Trades
Orlando sends: Ibaka
Boston sends: Johnson + Nets 1st round pick
Orlando sends: Augustine + Vucevic
Sacramento sends: WCS + Rudy Gay
I'd look for any deal of picks/young talent for Fournier
Payton/Watson
Hezonja/Meeks
Gay/Green
Gordon/Johnson
Biyombo/WCS
We can resign Gay he's a legit 2nd option, we should have picks coming in this year and hopefully years to come. We have 2 defensive anchors, Gordon back at his normal position and Hezonja having a chance to stretch the floor. Johnson is expiring with Green so we'll have a ton of cap space and even more if we let Gay walk. The best option in my opinion is to let the young guys play, get a good pick ourselves, the Nets pick, and then reload with players in the summer

Why do you guys think teams are giving away lottery picks for a player that will be a free agent 3 months after they get him?

Re: How would you blow it up?
The issue is pretty simple IMO, PG and SF.
Elfrid is not a starting PG in this league until his shooting gets better. Continue to start Augustin and bench Elfrid, but the Magic should seriously consider drafting another PG in the next draft, trading for a new starter, or signing one in the offseason (I don't think Augustin is a long term solution). I had high hopes Elfrid would improve his shot, and while I think his form is better (still bad) he just can't seem to knock it down with consistency. He's a great bench player though and I think we should keep him in the rotation.
Aaron has also gotten worse. Not sure which guy is more disappointing right now. Not sure why, but I think Aaron could still develop that shot. His form looks ok, not great, but ok. It's just surprising because I really thought he'd show some improvement, especially after how he performed in summer league (shooting wise). Not sure if it's the pressure or what but he needs to figure it out. I'm hopeful he's just starting the season in a rut and can come out of it (like Oladipo did last season, yes he had issues but his numbers got better after a terrible start).
Unfortunately if we're looking to improve via trade I think Aaron is going to be the guy teams ask for, maybe EP, but probably not Mario.
Jeff Green is not the solution. David Steele and Jeff Turner are driving me nuts on the play by play with their affection for him.
Trade Mario, Green, and a 2018 1st Rounder for a legit starting SF that can hit the deep ball. Start Augustin for now with EP coming off the bench and address PG in the offseason.
