Orlando doesn't give up yet.... Gallo Playoffs, Greenbye Mario (or the LAL pick)

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Tue Nov 29, 2016 4:50 pm

Alternate Version:

Orlando out: Jeff Green, Mario Hezonja, Orlando 2017 2nd
Orlando in: Gallo

Denver out: Gallo {They cut Gee}
Denver in: Jeff Green, Stanley Johnson, Orlando 2017 2nd

Detroit out: Johnson
Detroit in: Mario Hezonja

Using the Detroit/Orlando much talked about deal.

Or the simpler alternative:

Orlando out: Jeff Green, LAL '19 1st, Orlando 2017 2nd
Orlando in: Gallo

Denver out: Gallo
Denver in: Jeff Green, LAL '19 1st, Orlando 2017 2nd

Why?

Orlando tries a last ditch attempt to save the season by bolstering the failing sf position. It costs a 2nd and either a sg that wasn't getting run and might not for a while, or an asset that is 3 years off. Either way, when you are trying to field a decent team for an owner that might not make it 3 years, when the prospect is struggling to see the court or the LAL pick could in theory still drop to 2 2nds or be a late 1st if LAL suddenly turns around further, well, you have to throw the prospect/pick in and take the spin and hope it gets Ibaka re-signed and works.

Detroit gets more shooting, and a better roster fit.

Denver has been straddling this middle ground for a while. And going all in on win now doesn't make sense when all their talent is so young. And their guard play is so raw. Who wants to be the next Orlando? So they cash out of Gallo getting a 1st and a high 2nd. And Jeff Green.

I know what you are thinking, Jeff Green isn't actually good at basketball. But it is like the old sardine joke:

A long time ago, in a faraway land, (probably Iceland) the great sardine rush was underway. Everyone was making money from buying and selling sardines. Policemen, nurses and even bricklayers had given up their day jobs to concentrate on sardine trading. One day, in the middle of the great sardine rush, a young trader who had built up a position of 25 tonnes of sardines called up his broker and asked if they could meet down at the sardine warehouse. When they met, the broker unlocked the doors, and the young trader went inside to admire his mountain of sardines.

As he perched atop a box of the tasty morsels, he pulled a can out of a nearby box, and ripped open the lid. The foulest odour came out. They were rotten. Another box – the same result. All of his sardines were rotten! He turned to his broker and asked what he was supposed to do with 25 tonnes of rotten sardines! The broker, unaffected by the situation simply said to him, “Son, these sardines are for trading, they’re not for eating”.

Couldn't find a better version so that was from: https://quillgroup.wordpress.com/2012/11/29/these-sardines-are-for-trading/

Jeff Green isn't for playing basketball. He is for trading.

You know what I'm gonna say but Jeff Green's not worth this. I think OKC could beat that offer and I'd only be offering scraps.

?

Denver does it either for Stanley Johnson, or for the unprotected if it conveys LAL '19 1st .

I'm not sure the pick is worth Gallo at this point. Johnson maybe, but you've still got Green to put up with and I think that's almost a loss of value.
