Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXI
Porter is our 2nd best rebounder and our best overall shooter...
He's in the wall tier when it comes to being traded, he's almost averaging a double double...
Mkg is good but he's older than porter and Porter is out playing him this season...

I avoid like the plague wings who can't shoot. Yes, they may still be able to put up individual numbers that make their statistical metrics look good, but they are imposing lots of demands on their teammates to compensate for their inability to space the floor.
We don't have the personnel to accommodate MKG in our starting lineup because our C can't shoot at all and our PG and PF are barely serviceable as 3-point shooters. MKG has the luxury of being surrounded by deadeye shooters like Walker and Bellineli, plus a few more good shooters like Williams, Batum and Kaminsky.
My question is can MKG play PF? If so then I'd be interest in him, but not for Porter of course.
I'd honestly love to move on from Markieff at this stage. We badly need an upgrade at PF.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXXI
I'd still rather go after Aaron Gordon - after he had a ZERO for 12 shooting performance against Milwaukee - his 2nd horrific game against the Bucks this season. It's not his fault that Orlando plays him at SF. He was born to play PF - especially with other teams going to small-ball lineups. Still just 21 years old. Loves to play defense.
So, with Oubre and Beal both having big games against Sacramento, the idea of trading them to Sac for Cousins sounds more doable.

you don't have to worry about not resigning porter--we'd max him before letting him go. these guys in the FO treat draft picks with potential like they do their own kids for better or worse

We're probably going to have to use the draft as our best means to acquire a starting caliber PF.
I don't think Ian is ever going to prove himself to be good or healthy enough to make people comfortable with moving Gortat either :/
Don't think you can move either of Smith/Nicholsons horrific contracts without including a pick or Oubre.

I'm not sure what we could give up for Gordon. You think they'd take Oubre & a protected 1st?

I'd love a Smith, Burke, 2017 1st for Gordon and Meeks trade

His stats are down so far this season - and we are 20% through the season - I'd try an either/or - Oubre or a protected 1st. Throw in a trinket.
And if we get Gordon, give him the day off whenever we play the Bucks.

I like the idea of going after Aaron Gordon. Valuewise, we'd probably have to give up Oubre for him. I guess that's fair, but we'd have to find a follow up deal where we trade Nicholson for a serviceable backup SF.

I'm down with this plan. Aaron Gordon would thrive as a finisher on the end of a John Wall pass. Runs the court well. High energy. Passes the ball. He's just been crowded out of the front court to the wing where he lacks the right tools.

Omri Casspi is in a shooting slump, maybe we get him on a cheap swap and bank on him regaining his touch from 3.
Aaron Gordon I like. But the guy I want more is Richaun Holmes. He's in another numbers crunch in the Sixers front court, but except that he was drafted late and the Xers want to showcase their lottery assets, he ought to be starting somewhere.

How about Morris for Gordon straight up? I guess Orlando wouldn't go for that, huh?

Nate,
Id much rather give up Burke, Smith and unprotected 1st for Meeks and Gordon. Right now that is a top 10 pick and I think that could get their attention.
Wall / Sato
Beal / Meeks / Thornton
Otto / Oubre
Gordon / Morris / Nicholson
Gortat / Mahinmi
That lineup is strong and with the leaps Wall, Beal, and Otto have made, I dont see how we're not a top 4 team in the East and a top 6 seed. That pick then becomes 16-20, which is more than worth Gordon and the dumping of Smith.

I don't think Orlando does that though. But sure, if Orlando makes that deal, that would be better for us. Instead of using our pick to find a prospect who won't pan out to be a useful player until 2019, we get a guy who has 2 years of seasoning and is ready to contribute now (but with some additional upside left).

Casspi for Nicholson would be a steal. The Kings have a need at PF but I'd think they'd balk at the salary commitment.
I'm all in for Holmes. He seems like Paul Millsap-lite. I dunno what Philly would want for him in return though outside of Oubre or Sato. Seems like they have enough future 2nds.

Re did the trade......
I think this makes us a force in the east...
To kings 28mil=
Aminu (7.5)/Crabbe (21)/
Wiz 2017 1st top 7 protected
From kings 25mil=
Gay (14)/Wcs (4)/Cassipi(3)/McLemore (4)
Why kings??
Aminu= a 3&D forward
Crabbe= a good shooting guard
Wiz 2017 pick top 7
??... 2017 pick, gamble on crabbe and Aminu playing to their norm they have a much better limeup around cousins
To portland 25 mil
gortat 12
Mclemore 4
Cassipi 3
Nicholson 6
From portland 27 mil
Crabbe 19
Aminu 7.5
Why portland??
Cassipi= the shooter lillard and McCollum need
Gortat= perfect center for slotts system
Mclemore= crabbe replacement
Nicholson= slotts know what to do with him
??..Get gortat as starting center
Cassipi can become the sniper forward...mclemore can become another athletic wing..
To okc 20mil
Gay 14
Smith 5
From okc 17mil
Kanter 17
Why okc??
Gay= kanter
??..How else would they get gay
Smith filler
To wizards 24mil
Wcs 4
Kanter 20
From wizards 23mil
Gortat 12
Nicholson 6
Smith 5
2017 1st top 7 protected
Why wizards??
Wcs = athletic young big
Kanter = go to scorer in the post
?? ..Wall Kanter Beal porter
Wcs is added youth..also gets rid of fake stretch 4 nicholson and Jason smith
New lineup
Wall/sato/burke
Beal/thorton/
Porter/oubre
Morris/kanter
wcs/mahinmi
Kanter Has improved on defense and he's a better rebounder and offensive player than gortat
He can start til Mahinmi comes back...or Wcs can start...
But this gives us a more versatile squad

I'm pretty sure the Magic likes Aaron Gordon; they chose to trade Harris and keep him. I imagine they'd let him go in the right deal; any player can be traded. But I doubt he's available for Oubre. For anyone we'd want to trade.

Nicholson & Smith are negatives. Anyone would prefer to have Gortat and the pick rather than Gortat and the pick plus those two guys.
In effect your trade is
a) Gortat straight up for Kanter, and
b) top-7 protected pick for WC-S (who was picked #6 in 2015)
The multi-team sleight of hand hides problems; the real question to ask is whether the Thunder & Sac'to would do those 2 trades -- and whether we would. What do you think?

How much trade value should we be assigning to our draft pick this year? It's a premium asset if we continue to suck and it's unprotected. But will we? And what if it were top three protected?
