PS: Kyle O'Quinn brought his mom to his contract signing.

imagine how surreal it must feel to sign an 8-figure contract while sitting on rent-to-own furniture. it truly says everything about the state of our franchise - "light years" behind.

This seems like just speculation.

"Hey we havent even approached Rose about an extension, but maybe we might approach him with an extension later, but maybe not."

This can be said for every vet player on a expiring contract. Knicks havent even talked to Rose about it so whatever. But I will say if Rose gets through the year healthy, which would make it 2 relatively healthy years in a row, I do believe the Knicks will resign him. Not to a max or anywhere close to it since no team will give him that, but I would bet $ Knicks keep him.

Better hope either Rose has a huge ego and wants to get paid near max money, or some other team is desperate enough to overpay us. For the most part I like what Rose has done for us in 17 games, but im on record of hoping we sign Gordon Hayward instead. If we are going to waste cap space, id rather spend it on him. Look to trade for a PG instead. Or draft a PG with our 1st rounder and hope he exceeds expectations.

The chances are slimmer than that girl in Calvin Klein pants that we can steal away a better PG. Doesn't mean you close that door. You can always pay DRose in the summer. Not like folks will be chasing him to give him a multi year contract.

We'll be at around 20 mil if we waive the cap hold for him and Jennings (per Duncan). If we sign him waive the cap space good bye.

If the extension can only go for 3 years, then that doesn't sound too bad. He has had a really good attitude all season too. By the end of a 3 year extension he would still be under 32 years of age.

I also think Hornacek is a good coach for him. Hornacek can get the best out of him.

As long as he's healthy, the deal isn't huge, and there is NOT a NO TRADE CLAUSE. Right folks!?!? No more GD NTCs!!!!!

So that tells me:

1. Folks believe Chris Paul is a real option via free agency
2. Folks think the Knicks can actually get a better PG outside of free agency (by trading Lance Thomas and Kyle O'Quinn)
3. Folks aren't really thinking out their responses (either in this thread or the other thread) clearly

You took the words right out of my mouth!!

KNICK fans are hilarious in thinking we can magically walk into a "player store" and just pick whoever we want. Does anybody recognize how unrealistic and ridiculous that is???

Please Please wake up and stop the lofty dreams that we can have whoever we want. If that were true, LeBron, Steph and Durant would all be in a KNICK uniform today....but they're not.

If we don't extend Rose, then REALISTICALLY who else is available to us...AND wants to be here??? That is the true question. Some of us need to stop playing fantasy basketball and float back down to reality.

I doubt Derrick Rose wants to sit out the rest of his career injured and on the bench. He recognizes his best years are behind him and that the KNICKS are probably his last stop in his career. So a SMART deal that's less and shorter than his current one is not a bad idea. Rose is better than any PG we had in more than a decade... or do I need to post reminder videos of Jose Calderon and Toney Douglas at the point???

It's time for us to wake up and stop dreaming!! :noway:

how? the trade did not clear cap space for chicago. the salaries nearly matched.

signing noah and lee precluded the knicks having any available money for wade. and i don't know why if he left miami it wouldn't have been for chicago anyway.

lee was smart money. but getting noah was a major tipping point in landing lee. it was noah's phone call that sold lee. we might have been hard pressed to get him at all, let alone at the price we did, if noah wasn't working the phones.

but, in the no rose dream scenario, d-wade joins the knicks to create a starting five of:

calderon
wade
melo
KP
lopez

?

this thread needs nykmentality saying something along the lines "derrick rose is back to an elite level

..

.

...

(long winded post about nothing)
....

...
.

derrick rose is worth 50mm per year and has made melo round back into form. i think he'll win an mvp this year."

huh?

do you not see how terrible he runs an offense?

do you not see that if he's not scoring, he's looking for his buddy melo?

derrick rose is everything this team should be against, has beens who still think they're entitled to call their number.

i think folks are still hoping we somehow suck enough to get a young point. folks like to dream.

And some of those folks still support Phil Jackson even though clearly he's managed to make this team just good enough to not be able to realistically get one of those top young points.

If he stays healthy ... lol it's pretty much how half of the responses in this thread have started.

my reaction to this is conflicted. assuming he stays healthy, he is definitely back to his old explosiveness. I have no question about that.

the only issue is, his shot still sucks and he isn't much of a pure PG. we have KP, and we HAVE to build around him. more than that though, we need a PG who is going to get others involved as well and get the whole team going. idk if derrick is that guy. which brings me to my next point...

how long is this extension? if it's for more than 2 years, i'm scared.

Point guards like Rose age horribly. And it doesn't help he has a reputation for injuries already. Re-signing him will be the same thing as the Amare debacle smh

Unless he flamed out, the plan was always to re-sign him, there were pretty much no other moves. There's no cap space, no redundant players to trade, and moving more picks would be a mistake. Pretty much all you can do is hope luck holds out with him.

Derrick Rose's contract IS the cap space.
