Re: Game 16: Sacramento Kings (7-10) @ Washington Wizards (5-10)
I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a Beal, Oubre + pick for Cousins, Casspi & Temple.
Then follow that up with Gortat for Ariza
Wall / Satoransky / Burke
Temple / McClellan / Thornton
Porter / Casspi / House
Ariza / Morris / Nicholson
Cousins / Mahinmi / Smith
It's not perfect but it's the best roster we've seen in DC in almost 40 years... Not really saying much though lol.

However, Beal already has missed his traditional one in five games.

Yeah, Beal has already had a season mini-microcosm - a very cold streak (5 games or so?) to start the season, a stress fracture to miss a few games, and a somewhat prolonged hot streak.
I thought his injury was a pulled hamstring.
Correct - I was looking at the future. Next time I do that, I need to check out stock prices.

Basically flash Cousins at the top of the key and let him go one-on-one while everyone else flares out to the corners. I've never seen a C have to do so much offensively off-the-dribble to create shots. No P&R, no screens, no post ups, etc... Just give Cousins the ball at top of the key and get out the way, like he's a guard.I was thoroughly impressed with what Cousins could do under these circumstances....
Are you sure that's "what the Kings' offense was?" I.e. what Cousins is asked to do rather than just being Cousins doing what he likes to do and it being virtually impossible to coach him out of that?
Not challenging you -- I just wonder. Dave Joerger is a highly regarded coach, no? Would he really set up to operate the offense that way I wonder? Wasn't he doing more or less the same thing last year under a different coach?
His 2pt. % was even lower last year than this, giving me the indication that dribbling and taking a jump shot is something he likes to do, is what he prefers to do. His game against us reminded me of many NBA games I've seen him play.
Did you watch the game? Possession after possession I saw the same thing. It looked a bare bones version of a high post offense but with minimal cutting and far more iso-centric.
To be honest I don't get to watch Sacramento too much. Just noting what I saw last night. I would think there are easier ways to get Cousins into scoring positions. He's incredibly skilled, I can't imagine he wouldn't be more efficient if he handled the ball less than he does now.
Absolutely, he's an incredibly skilled guy -- not to mention being enormous to boot! He has the physical tools to be the most dominant player in the league. But... yes, I watched the game, & my point is that it looks to me like he handles the ball so much, because that's what he likes to do!
I could be wrong of course. But to me at least the appearance is that Cousins is doing what he did last year, except this year there's a new coach. He also did the same thing 2 coaches ago! I.e. I think it's on him not the series of coaches.

I agree that that roster would be the best in 40 years.
I think McClellan and Morris would be starters.

Cousins needs a Nene teammate.
A guy who can probably throw down better than he can, who at least has Boogie's respect. A guy who can defend and pass. And, another mean dude
I think Gortat with Cousins would succeed in challenging the current small ball paradigm. They would intimidate the heck out of most teams.

Maybe they'd take Morris.

Probably not - though with Mirza, Beasley, and Parker on the roster - they could certainly use Morris' defense.

Holy moly. Teletovic is awful. Yes, he's shooting 39% on a ton of 3 pointers, but he's also getting 5.4 rebounds every 40 minutes and putting up a lot of other awful numbers in everything else as well. I'd rather have Morris, and that's saying a lot for me as I really don't like Markieff.
No need for Casspi either, for that matter. These are not guys who make us better!

I always like his effort - but he got his FIRST double double of his career. That's hard to fathom considering how much fanfare he had coming in.
What are you talking about? He was drafted as a 19-year-old. 19-year-olds rarely have much impact in their first year. He essentially red shirted. We did the same thing with Otto Porter.
This is the year I expect to see some sustained competent play. He did so tonight. I think Oubre is pretty much on schedule in his development.
Ill take that feedback! No problem

Once again, I agree with nate33!
Oubre, IMO is a guy who IF he played with the starters; might struggle for a few games, but would become at the very least a good defender and a good to great rebounder at SF. He's a guy who ONCE HIS CONFIDENCE and SHOT MECHANICS get in sync will be a good NBA player.
As much as I LOVE TO HATE ON ERNIE GRUNFELD; I have to admit that I can see why he drafted Oubre (when others of us wanted Bobby Portis, very badly). Oubre has the right mindset to become a good player. dobrojim called him another Stacey Augmon, who was a really tough defender with the Hawks.
I agree. Oubre is just young. He's going to take some time but I'd lean toward saying he WILL pan out to be a good player.
