Would you all do a trade for DeMarcus Cousins of Porter + Gortat or Mahinmi + our unprotected draft pick? Could you still live with that deal if we ended up in the top three and that pick was Markelle Fultz or Josh Jackson or whoever rises to the top of this ridiculous class?

No. If they want Porter, they don't get unprotected. Not when Cousins is a year away from being an unrestricted free agent.

No, of course not. Not interested in trading Porter, and not interested in trading our 2017 pick.

What I don't get is how people can watch Cousins score a lot of points but cause his team to lose, and still salivate to have him.

Do you know when he could sign an extension?

Assuming he can sign an early extension and you were made confident he would do so (maybe under the table assurance from his agent), would you do unprotected then?

We just saw him drop 36 and 20 and score every clutch bucket Sacramento needed to send the game to OT, creating every look on his own. That's not causing his team to lose, that's carrying them on his back and almost stealing one.

Would you do Beal + the draft pick for Cousins?

Cause his team to lose?

Please look at that roster without him - since he's been in the NBA - and tell us how those teams would have won without him?

I think Sac has little interest in taking a C back. They've already got WCS, Koufos, Papagiannis & Labissierre on their roster. They also have Gay, Casspi & Barnes at SF so if they get a SF they would probably want to dump one in return.

Also I think they would value a high volume scorer over a low usage uber efficient role player like Porter. Losing Cousins means someone has to step up and take those shots. Beal would fit as their #1 scoring option. Of course in that scenario Sacramento would likely want to send a SG back our way since they have Afflalo, Temple & McLemore at the position.

There's 29 teams that can negotiate with the Kings as well. Why in the world would they only take a $64 million dollar backup C, a raw wing player and a pick 3 years from now?

Great points.

Beal is the type of scorer Sac would need to fill the void left by Cousins. Porter is the type of uber role player who can make a big impact alongside two high usage players like Wall and Cousins. It makes no sense to include Porter in the trade.

The more I think about it, the more I'd be unwilling to give up our 2017 1st without protection. Beal may very well be breaking out as an elite SG. I'm not convinced that there will be better return from other teams. My final offer would be Beal plus Gortat (or whatever Gortat yields in a 3-way) plus a pick that is lotto protected in 2017, top 10 protected in 2018, top 3 protected thereafter. Also, we get Garrett Temple in return.

Nicholson & Smith are negatives. Anyone would prefer to have Gortat and the pick rather than Gortat and the pick plus those two guys.

In effect your trade is

a) Gortat straight up for Kanter, and
b) top-7 protected pick for WC-S (who was picked #6 in 2015)

The multi-team sleight of hand hides problems; the real question to ask is whether the Thunder & Sac'to would do those 2 trades -- and whether we would. What do you think?

I'm not sure but I think you're sending out too much salary in that deal.

A big problem with trading Beal instead of Porter is you lose your three ball range. Instead we'd have a lot of mid range scorers. And we don't really want the Kings version of DeMarcus Cousins who leads the league in usage and scoring with that Andray Blatche-esque efficiency. We want a Cousins who scores like 20 PPG with about 10% lower usage and a true shooting percentage at or just below 60. And it wouldn't hurt to have a better scorer than Wall for the second option, which I think Beal already is.

You need a **** ton of offense to beat the Cavs and Beal is more valuable than Porter towards that end.

That said, a Wall + Beal + Cousins locker room seems combustible. All three of them are angry players. Throw in Markieff Morris's crazy and the toxic atmosphere at the VC and there is a decent chance the Wizards start a bawl with their own fans one day. And it goes without saying that, if this summer's rumors were true that Wall and Beal don't like each other, then you trade Beal. That group would be shades of Sheed, Stoudamire, Z-Bo, and Bonzi Wells...

I think I'd be fine with much more limited protection on this year's draft pick if we got back Cousins in return. Yeah it would blow if we ended up gifting them Markelle Fultz. But the issue with the draft pick would be similar to the one Cleveland faced with Wiggins after LeBron signed with them. The player just wouldn't share the same window as Wall and Cousins. Beal does. So our pick would be less valuable to us than Beal, and far more valuable to a team that's decided to blow it up and start over.

Finally, our best outcome with Cousins is to actually wait until he hits free agency. Because we've got that extra year with Wall, he has to come to us if he truly wants to use his free agency to team up with Wall. He could then force Sacramento to sign and trade him to us for a much lesser offer than they'd get from us today right? So the longer everyone waits to deal for Cousins, the cheaper he becomes. Assuming they don't turn it around and start winning of course.

God the **** Wall situation is what keeps us from being able to negotiate with Sacramento from a position of strength.

We are dangerously close to losing Wall and basically the only way we can be sure of keeping him is acquiring Cousins. We are held hostage by an uncertain future with Wall.

Take this nightmare scenario for example: the Lakers trade for Cousins and Eric Bledsoe and then clear/preserve max cap space for the summer of 2019.

At that point we have lost Wall to them.

And then the alternative to that is gutting the team to trade for Cousins and then trusting Ernie to go out and build a whole new team around him and Wall, with minimal assets.

We are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I guess you watch the parts you like, right? Cousins was able to "drop 36" as you call it by taking 34 shots and 10 free throws. Oh, and while dominating all those possessions and attempts to score he also turned the ball over 5 times. Sorry, but there's not some other way to describe his outing and make it good, by using phrases like "clutch shot" and "carrying them on his back."

We turned the ball over 23 times in that game. When's the last time an NBA team committed 23 turnovers and won the game? The rest of the Kings didn't play well either, but that doesn't make Cousins' performance good. Yes, he got a lot of defensive rebounds. Then again, we shot 41%, so there were a lot of defensive rebounds to get, weren't there?

Cousins actually has his turnovers down to a very reasonable rate this season. Per 40 minutes, his 3.3 to's is just fine for someone who has such a high usage rate - considering his other per 40 rates include 33.6 points and 3.8 assists - and he's got his TS% up to 56%. That's on a team with just 2 other players even capable of scoring in double figures on a regular basis - and Gay and Collison are fairly ordinary players.

Question. Is it possible to put a lineup of efficient low usage guys who don't waste posessions and win? How do you think this lineup would fair?

Unless Rozier has suddenly turned into a playmaker who can set up others, that isn't going to work. No rim protection inside either with two undersized bangers. Not sure this is the best lineup of that type of guy you can create.

How about:
Rudy Gobert
Tristan Thomas (or Faried if you wish)
Otto Porter
Thabo Sefalosha (or Green)
Patty Mills

Rudy gives you more rim protection, Mills more playmaking, and Otto for some local flavor.

They'd win at least 32 games. I'd guess the lack of a go-to scorer would hurt in crunch time, but they've got grinders who know how to defend. Defense wins. They MAY win 40 games. Rebounds wouldn't be an issue.

Rozier is the wild card. I don't know how well he's faring in the NBA but I do remember him at Louisville. Dude can score well.
