I really like Mike Muscala and am happy that he has improved his game.

But no. After seeing what he managed in a starting role at PF, I don't for a moment believe he's a starting caliber player.

He played well in the starting role at C next to Millsap when Dwight sat out - but I agree, a full time starter he is not.

Now that it seems like the Hawks won't over pay for Millsap, which I totally agree with, the more I get excited about Muscala being the starting PF for the Hawks. As a starter, I think we will see Muscala turn into Ryan Anderson, getting 15ppg and shooting 40% from three.

Muscular would also be the perfect front court teammate to Dwight, just like Rashard Lewis was a great teammate for Dwight in Orlando. Muscala would add spacing and Dwight can help Muscala with rebounding and defense

I'm pretty sure it has been said that we would look for a Millsap replacement in fa.

Muscala is still an option to be retained as he does offer some skill and talent but likely not as a starter. His shooting is not as prolific as Ryan Anderson's who has held the same percentages on nearly 3x the amount of volume and he doesn't offer the positional, offensive, and defensive versatility of a Rashard Lewis. His market should be similar to Kelly Olynyk though but it's hard to get a good read on that because there's so many numbers being thrown out that are influenced by the Boston hype train and his performance in that game 7 of the Wizards series.

Nothing about Mucala excites me about him being the starting PF if Millsap leaves. Muscala is a rotation piece.

I don't know if we'll even re-sign Muscala. It all depends on how much he's asking for/getting in the open market.

Unless the Hawks are able to sign a quality free agent center in the next few months, it looks like Muscala is bound to be at Hawks' starter next season as either a PF or Center???

One more move like the last one from our new GM, and this is your G-team folks.

Muskie, formerly Moose, is our Tyler Zeller. He's not moving the needle.

We'll know very soon if we are going to field a competitive team or its 3 tickets for 1 night except for GSW/CLE.

I think Moose is a tremendous bench piece the way he's playing but I would look toward FA for a starting PF if Sap leaves.

Derrick Favors would be my first option. He's off to a slow start this season but just had a great few years. Reports are that Utah's prioritizing signing George Hill over him at the moment, and Favors went to Georgia Tech.

Ya i have already mentioned Favors before...

Looking at the future: Derrick Favors
http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1459318

and the Hawks would be smart to target him in free agency, but Favors won't be a free agent until 2018, and the Hawks don't have any assets to trade for Favors now.

If things don't go well with Sap, we could see Muscala starting for one year with Dwight before the Hawks can make a push for Favors.

I'm sure the Hawks could find a vet to sign (Jeff Green) or trade the first for a vet like Deng.

I wouldnt want Deng's contract. He is way overpaid. but it would look good PR wise I guess since the whole Ferry fiasco..but still I wouldnt want it

In the short-term it's likely that Muscala is retained and plays major minutes. Even with 3-4 FA's, this is going to be a very young and not so talented team.
