Whitehead doesn’t limit himself to questioning his teammates, either. When he played against Westbrook, he picked his brain while they were lining up on the foul line. He spoke to Damian Lillard while playing the Trail Blazers last week and the Celtics’ Isaiah Thomas in the preseason. And whether he speaks to him or not, the Clippers’ Paul, a perennial All-Star, should bring his own set of lessons.
“I’m just trying to learn from them and then really just trying to go at them and see how [Paul] adjusts,” Whitehead said. “I haven’t played against him yet, so I’m looking forward to it.”
6 Points, 4 Assists, 3 Rebounds, +3. Seems minimal but Paul shot 11/26 from the field. He also saved the game by rotating and fouling Jordan sending him to the line. He's being thrown into the fire early against elite guards and he competes defensively every night. Lillard went 0-5 from three with Whitehead guarding him, Teague was invisible against him last week as well.
I'm excited for his future under Kenny. He's 21 and already showing potential to be a two way guard. He reminds me of Marcus Smart...without the flopping of course.

Maybe it's just me being cranky but I don't like our starting PG asking opposing PGs for advice mid-game. Psychologically, they must feel like they're playing against a kid. This isn't training camp or preseason. Whitehead might as well ask for their autograph. As the great Rose once said, "there's a time and a place for that" - mid-game isn't the time for that.
Impress them during the game then hit them up during the off season or after the game. It's a cute story but jeez.
Players talk to each other all the time on the court. It wasn't like him asking CP3, a veteran and a first ballot HOF for some small career advice hindered his competitive spirit because he was competing hard against him.
Rondae met with Kobe, who is his idol, before we played the lakers last year and asked him for advice. I don't see anything wrong with it. The guy wants to get better by any means.
the days where guys are out there trying to kill each other are long gone. players talk. some of these players have known each other for years, a guy like a Whitehead may have met CP3 years ago in a camp as a younger kid, you never know.
i see where you're coming from though.
