Pacers / Magic idea
Was listening to the recent basketball insiders podcast and Steve Kyler mentioned the Magic should look at Pacers Monta Ellis, in exchange, Mario Hezonja and Jeff Green.
Thoughts?
Not sure how much Hezonja can help us this season but could be a nice piece for the future. Green would be a solid backup for Young and Miles or GR3 could start at SG.

Jeff Green cannot currently be traded according to the ESPN Trade Machine. Believe that has to do with him signing this year. I'm not sure on when he can be traded. I am no CBA expert. That being said.... I like this idea. Well thought out.

Re: Pacers / Magic idea
I think it sounds ok. I dont really like Hezonja as a player but he may have some value as an asset for a trade down the line. Green would be a nice backup for Thaddeus. However Green is wildly erratic; he is capable of having extremely hot or extremely cold games on any given night. What I like most about it is the flexibility on the wings and at the four it would afford McMillan. However I really like the potential for Ellis as the backup point guard. I believe he could come off the bench and play a Nick Van Exel; Bobby Jackson type role which could end up being very valuable
Potential rotation
Teague/ Brooks / Stuckey
GR III/ Stuckey/ Miles
George/ GRIII/ Miles
Young/ Green
Turner/ Jefferson

Re: Pacers / Magic idea
Green is a lateral move with Ellis in some respects. Getting a young shooter might be nice, but less pressing with the emergence of GRIII and Aaron Brooks doing things well off the bench.
Would be more interesting is deal came with Vogel

Re: Pacers / Magic idea
Jeff Green is like a worse version of Thad Young and I can't think of many worse players than Hezonja right now to be honest.
He is talented, plays for a lottery team and even Frank, the sweet players coach, keeps him on the bench.
I'm no CBA expert either, nor am I an English language expert, but when you put the thing you use to click on stuff on the forbid sign, you will be able to just read why and when

Re: Pacers / Magic idea
I'd be intrigued by Jeff Green for Monta Ellis. Throw in the opportunity to take a flier on a lottery pick from a recent draft. I'm in. Go with Green and Young at the 3 and 4, move PG to the 2. Gotta think we would rebound better probably defend better too. Guessing Green doesn't shoot the 3 any worse than Monta.
Hard to imagine Orlando essentially giving up Herzjonia already?

Btw, I feel like I should mention that Frank Vogel would probably not be okay with this.

I've seen a couple articles today linking Indy and Orlando around Monta Ellis. Obviously a long way to go until a blurb on ClutchPoints and an actual deal happens...but it's out there

I want to amend my previous position:
We need to trade Monta ASAP. If we can do it for a sack of potatoes on an expiring contract, great. Ellis is hot garbage right now and I don't think it's going to get better.

I would tend to agree. The issue is going to be someone willing to give up a sack of potatoes for him. His contract does not help trying to move him.

Re: Pacers / Magic idea
Is Ellis starting to show we still value him? I don't understand why we refuse to alter the starting lineup when the match-ups are unfavorable. Lavoy Allen's playing time depends upon the opponent but Ellis' does not. dumb. if Frank Vogel likes Ellis, or CJ, or Lavoy, he can have them as far as I'm concerned.

Agree on all except for CJ. Going to be hard to find his production on that contract.

Yeah, CJ is by all metrics, stats, and the eye test, a net positive for this team. His injury concerns are really the only thing holding him back.

Re: Pacers / Magic idea
Does this variation made any sense.
Pacers in Solomon Hill
Pacers out Monta Ellis and C.J. Miles
Orlando in Monta Ellis and C.J. Miles
Orlando out Jeff Green and Mario Herzonja
New Orleans in Jeff Green and Mario Herzonja
New Orleand out Solomon Hill
My theory Orlando would seem to need more value to part with a guy this recently drafted and as high a pick as he was. I think Ellis could be a #3 guard for them and CJ and instant offense guy. Looks like they could use both.
Pels are struggling and the only young assets on the team are Davis and Hield. Gotta think getting a prospect with presumably big upside would hold some attraction to them.
Solomon Hill would be a really nice fit to the team we have now. You could plug him into the starting lineup at the 2. He doesn't need shots or the ball and would give you hustle plays, defense and rebounding. We don't get any of those things on a consistent basis.

You and I remember Solomon Hill very differently.
He plays 27 minutes a game, shoots 34%, 29% from deep.
CJ Miles is better than him, straight up.

Re: Pacers / Magic idea
isn't Solo getting too much to be a backup 3/4 for us? I don't see him as a starting 2/3 as that just puts him in GRob's way and I see the purpose of any small trade as making minutes for GRob.

Not sure I agree that C.J. is straight up better. Certainly wasn't in the Toronto series. Solomon does a certain things that this team struggles with like defending and rebounding.

If you didn't have to find minutes for Monta or CJ I think there would be plenty of minutes for both Solo and GRIII.

Solomon Hill current rebound rate: 7.4%
CJ Miles current rebound rate: 7.4%
CJ is much better on offense, the same in rebounding, and doesn't suck at defense as much as Solomon sucks at offense.
