Jon Leuer appreciation thread.

Post#1 » by zeebneeb » Fri Dec 2, 2016 1:33 pm

I was happy as hell as soon as the Pistons signed Leuer as he was/is the perfect fit for the Pistons. So many folks out there both in the media and here at RealGM laughed, joked, or otherwise chided this move.

Guess what?

Yeah, hes a perfect fit for a Stan Van Gundy team.

He is averaging career highs in almost every category (26.7mpg i stated early that Leuer was going to play a lot more then people think and some folks said he would be lucky to match tollivers mpg) and is the perfect weapon off the bench. He plays time at either the 4,5 and can gaurd some small forwards.

Hats off to Stan. Hats off to Jon.

Now increase that 3P% Jon!

(I would post some Leuer Piston highlights but i cant seem to find any. FEEL FREE to do so!)

Pistons bench is back, and i cannot wait to see what a penetrating Ish with Leuer are going to do to second units. Man o man.

I love Leur. He always seems to fit with whoever he plays with. When the second unit is out there without any starters it seems to be him we run through. It always amazes me to see his 7 points 7 rebounds in 7 minutes stat lines during the game. He always makes the most of his mins.

He's our guy. KCP, Leuer, Baynes, Morris... those type of players are the guys who are representing the Bad Boy spirit on the court and we should be proud of them.

A better version of Rhyno

Remember when we feared SVG would blow his load on Anderson?

I don't know if I'd say better version because they're pretty different. Jons D is far superior and he can get minutes at the 5 where as you'd never see Anderson at the 5. But Rynos 3 point shot is far superior.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what other teams were after him in free agency. I was cautiously optimistic about the signing based on how well he played at times and believing SVG could find a role to get that out of him on a consistent basis. My only reasons for being skeptical were his limited three point attempts and the fact he hadn't played even close to a full season any year.

I'm pretty sure Leuer is good enough that if Stanley flops and we need to trade one of Morris or Harris in a star package, Low Key would be at least an average starter at PF.

My favorite thing about Leuer is that he lets the game come to him. He's in the right spot at the right time, and rarely forces anything. When you do that, good things happen.

Anderson seemed like a good fit but mega expensive. Great that SVG (again) finds the diamond in the rough. Leuer is looking like a great move.

Both Jon and Ish turned out to be much better signings than I originally thought they would be. Jon has still struggled a bit from outside but once they corrects itself he's going to be one of the best backup forwards in the league.... It almost feels like I can saw the same thing about Ish once he starts coming off the bench, and we already know how good Baynes is.

The thing I've been most pleasantly surprised by is his athleticism. He's got sneaky athleticism. Some of those drives and finishes and oops on the fast break just make you say 'whatttt'??

Leuer was a guy I hoped the Pistons had a chance at in FA. Solid, versatile PF. He's not your star, but he's pretty good at most everything. Very heady player as well. Probably underestimated as to how good his speed and hops really are. Just another solid signing by the brain trust.

He's a prefect fit, I'm not even worried about he 3pt shooting because he can contribute in other ways. He can defend, rebound, and pass I take that any day over a one dimensional 3pt shooter.

I'm hoping Ellenson does the same

I've been disappointed in his lack of shooting ability. All the other aspects of his game are as advertised though. Until he picks up the shooting I'm not super thrilled with the signing to be honest...its just OK.

Ditto to all the praise for Jon in this thread; it's amazing to think how good he's been for us while slumping as an outside shooter. Just another absolute shrewd steal by SVG & Bower while inferior players were getting paid way more money last summer.

^ Per the highlighted, an honest question I've been pondering / hoping for — if Leuer keeps up his current level of production, and Ish puts up, say, 10 points and 5+ assists per game once he moves to the bench, and both are playing 25+ minutes per night ... could the Pistons have two legit 6th Man of the Year candidates? Honestly, I don't think either would win 'cuz that award typically goes to the bench player with the most PPG (cough, cough, Jamal Crawford, cough, cough), but still, how many teams could sport two bench players who at least belong in the conversation?

Dat LOW-KEY doe

I said this before the season started, Leur is going to make a legit case to start as our PF. While it'll never happen with the players in front of him, if he had to start, very few of us would be worried. We are spoiled in that we have Mook,Harris, and Leur to choose from.

What i didn't expect was how well he played at center in terms of rebounds and protecting the rim. His length makes up for his size and he's so damn sneaky athletic. He's had at least 4-5 dunks that most ppl would try to lay in.

Lastly , the most exciting part is that he's still young and developing so their is a very good chance he could get even better. SVG deserves a lot of credit. This system is tailor'd made to a guy like leur

Leuer should be in the running for 6th man of the year based on his impact on our team. Man am I so glad this guy is on our team. He's consistently been making the right plays.

Return to Detroit Pistons
