Some interesting team statistics thru 21 games and a 11-10 record. Not surprisingly, a mixed bag, but with some real strengths...
Good Stuff
Team Turnovers: 11.0/game, 1st in NBA
Opposing FG%: 42.9%, 2nd in NBA
Team Assist/TO Ratio: 1.92, 4th in NBA
Opposing 3P%: 34.0%, 6th in NBA
Opposing FT Attempts: 20.9, 7th in NBA
Team Rebound %, Differential: 50.5%, +0.9, 10th in NBA
Neutral Stuff
Team FG%: 45.5%, 11th in NBA
Team 3P%: 35.1%, 15th in NBA
Team FT%: 76.7%, 19th in NBA
Bad Stuff
Team Assists: 21.2/game, 22nd in NBA
Team Steals: 6.9/game, 24th in NBA
Team Blocks: 4.0/game, 28th in NBA
Team FT Attempts: 18.4, 29th in NBA
A lot of this isn't surprising. We have the 2nd best scoring defense in the NBA behind Utah, although some of that is the relatively slow pace we use. The defense has been good all-around, even though it doesn't produce the flashy stats such as steals and blocks. We're also really good at limiting turnovers.
Our offense has been OK in terms of percentages, but we're still a poor passing team and we get to the line like complete crap. Reggie and his penetration is going to help a lot with that, as he both gets to the line and helps others do the same. Ish has played great lately, but his speedy style leads to uncontested mid-ranges and layups more than anything.
To further improve, we need to take this physical, imposing defense and add more physical offense. More free throws, more drives, more passing to the open shooter or post player. It's a good squad in terms of talent that's come around well on one end, and just needs improvement on the other. Given that we've been missing our most important player on offense, that's a pretty good sign.

Not worried about the blocks and steals if we have a good defense. Iirc spurs were similar at their defensive peak. Offense will be an issue come half court Time during the playoffs, but not if what we've seen these past couple games is here to stay

Was thinking same about blocks and steals. Who is the top 5? Are their records good?

We have a top 5 defense so far hope we can keep it up. When Reggie comes back and we can get the offense to around 13-14 like last year we'll have a pretty good team.
Championships

It would be sweet to have a top10 offense and defense this year but give me the defense and I'm happy.

I LOVE Defensive b-ball. Wish they still had hand checking.... I guess they let some teams do it depending on what team you are

Re: Team Stats (thru 12/2)
The neutral stuff is what impresses me the most. With the guys we have on our team, you don't expect us to be a good shooting team. Our offensive rating hasn't been this high since the mighty 30-52 John Keuster-led team. We haven't had a defensive better than our current one since we lost to the Spurs in the finals.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

I don't consider a lack of assists a bad thing when we're not turning the ball over (1st) & are 11th for FG%
The lack of steals is a product of SVGs system (I believe). He doesn't like dudes gambling cause it can compromise the whole system. Same for blocks.
And you guys have already shown that being great at stocks doesn't nessasarily mean you're a good team with a good record.
Which leaves us with FT attempts:
I alluded to it in a game thread not long ago and I believe this to be true of every team in every sport:
Until you reach a certain point of "goodness" the refs won't give you your share of 50/50 calls.
It's BS but its also human nature! If you think a team is craptacular then you're not gonna give them the benefit of the doubt.
Everyone has a preconceived idea about everything. This is the same thing...and it's mine lol
But once you reach a certain level as a team you get your fair share of calls...we're not there yet (witness the game threads and the FT attempts as proof) but we're close

Re: Team Stats (thru 12/2)
A mind boggling stat is that after 1/4 of the season the pistons net rating is + 8.1 points/100 possessions higher when André is not on the floor. That is crazy. Admittedly, this might change once RJ is back. But if this trend continues with a bigger sample size, we will have to look seriously at the future of the franchise with Drummond as it corner talent

The bad doesn't surprise me. We usually only record assists on catch and shoots, as we don't have any good slashers. I can also live with this as Ish has done a phenomenal job of taking care of the ball.
Blocks, not a concern is we're causing our opponents to shoot poorly. We want a miss as a result of their position, doesn't really matter if it was swatted (although it's fun). Steals, probably a result of SVG wanting his team to play more conservative defense and not play the lanes.
Team FT, again, makes sense. Reggie will give that category a boost, as he is our only slasher. And, Drummond hacking is way down.
Overall, those are pretty nice stats. Surprising, considering our abysmal road record.
