Really frustrating loss. Only plus is we built a nice cushion and are still above .500 and we still we have yet to establish a real rotation.

Unfortunately, neither of those explain that loss.

Everyone's most frustrating and baffling PF/C combo - Hawes and Hibbert - have now played 71 minutes together over the past 6 games. They have an ORTG of 90 and a DRTG of 112, for a net RTG of -22.

It's not working on either side or the ball. Everyone can see it except for Clifford, apparently. I understand that we don't have a ton of options behind Marvin/Frank, but even when presented with the chance to go smaller and use one of the wings at PF, like last night vs Bjelica, Clifford refused to budge and stuck with two guys who both posted -15 +/- in their ~20 minutes together. It made sense to stay big when the Wolves had Towns and Aldrich out there. It made no sense to keep that pairing once Towns came out.

We had the same opportunity vs the Mavs when they played Barnes at PF with their bench, yet Clifford remained with Hawes at PF for some insane reason and it didn't work.

This ranks right up there with playing Maxiel over Biyombo and playing Gary Neal over pretty much anyone, in terms of the dumbest, most stubborn lineup decisions in the Clifford era.

Yeah, starting PJ looks Popovichian compared to playing the Hawebbert.

Just an endless amount of hilarious nicknames involving Hawes.

Our supposed defensive anchor Roy Hibbert is now dead **** last in DTRG among rotation players at 105.5. He also has the worst net rating, just edging out his buddy Spencer.

The offense falls apart with Spencer on the floor. He has the worst OTRG on the team at 96.8. So much for Hawes' passing and 3pt shooting helping our offense. It doesnt.

Pair those two together and you have the guy who kills our defense paired with the guy who kills our offense. Beautiful.

Sessions must be so excited to not be the biggest anchor on the team right now.

The thing with hibbert is he can't even show on pick n rolls, he is a useless pnr defender. Combine that with his offensive futility , and pairing him with an out of position hawes and a really bad PG in sessions, second unit struggles on both ends relying on belly and lamb. It's so damn obvious. Front office should get in his ear with numbers

Appears my hopes for Roy turning things around here were pipe dreams.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Yeah no amount of data or explanation would alter perceptions about Kaminsky's defensive contribtuons but there it is. Bizarre nonetheless given he and MKG defend pretty much everything between 3 and 30 feet in lineups with Sessions-Marco while the C zones (last year too....Kaminsky and Lamb connected bench defense).

Teasing out Frank as the 2nd unit PF would've revealed issues hiding in plain sight that have become so obvious the past 5 games, specifically Hawes' messy offense and Marco's defensive challenges.

One solution is for Cliff to do a better job of staggering the rotations as to avoid heavy minutes with the Hawes/Hibbert combo, especially as you mentioned while having to hide Marco.

Frank getting in early foul trouble made it a bit tough yesterday, but still no reason not to explore some smaller units.

Also might be worth exploring playing more Marco and MKG together with at least one of Frank (Marvin) or Cody in 2nd unit, which provides a better balance of wing defense and mobile big man.

Why not just kick the tires on Wood? I've never been a fan of Hibbert's game honestly, I was one of the few that was fine with us drafting Augustin over him. Big, slow centers that don't rebound very well just aren't terribly useful, especially in today's NBA.

I'd fancy Treveon esp. if it shoved MKG to PF

Portland used to pay Batum at Pf at time as well.

There are plenty of options apart from putting a 7 foot sieve.
