Free Throw Shooting?

Post#1 » by fatlever » Sun Dec 4, 2016 6:16 pm

What on earth has happened to our free throw shooting?

For the season we are shooting 73.8%, 25th in the league. Last year we shot 79.0%, 5th in the league. We have basically the same core of players. What on earth is going on?

Pretty much every player on the team is shooting worse from the FT line this year than last year.

Big drops from:
Zeller from 75.4% to 61.8%
Sessions from 75.6 to 66.0%
Hibbert from 80.7% to 71.9%
Batum from 84.9% to 77.1%
Kemba from 84.7% to 77.8%

Basically same as last year, with slight drop from:
Marvin from 83.3% to 81.0%
Frank 73.0% to 71.0%
Hawes 83.1% to 81.3%

only players shooting better than last year are MKG, Lamb and Marco. And even MKG (72%) is shooting worse than he did as a rookie.

It's like we didn't even practice ft shooting in the offseason. Kemba's FT% in particular is completely uncharacteristic. He was better than this as a **** rookie

easy to argue the MIN & NYK games in particular were lost due to foul foul shooting, with ten free throws missed in contests that went to OT

MIN 5pt loss in OT, 10 missed free throws
NY 2pt loss in OT, 10 missed free throws
NO 5pt loss, 7 missed free throws
TOR 2pt loss, 6 missed free throws
Spurs 5pt loss, 5 missed free throws

its a problem

either its a random fluke or maybe injuries messing with them?

Ban Bojangles from the arena, just to be safe.

As long as players don't forget to foul when the team is +3 at the end of the regular time, i can understand that priority

But at the same time, when you face opponents with bad free throw shooters but good post games, you should send them to the line imo.
The turnover part is underrated here. I would not be surprised if the Hornets were the best team in points (not) allowed from turnovers.
