Can Caris Levert D up worth a damn? Was he also know to play both ways or was he primarily a scorer who didnt use up too much energy on D?

I believe his 7-foot wingspan and size should be beneficial on defense, and he was known in Michigan for his hustle plays. Can't wait to see him tomorrow!

His DraftExpress profile sums it up nicely.

With his physical tools, it's difficult to project LeVert as a staunch defender at the next level. His height and wingspan could allow him to guard bigger guards, but his thin frame can get overpowered on drives or inside the paint. He may be able to bother smaller point guards but he isn't the quickest player laterally, which hurts his ability to stay in front of penetration at times. He'll need to work on staying in a fundamental stance defensively to maximize his chances of defending the perimeter. He does put in a high level of effort on this side of the ball and looks committed to making an impact. While unlikely to emerge as a lockdown type in the short term, his coaching staff will know he will compete and continuously look to get better, particularly as his frame improves.

CBS Sports also profiled his defensive potential.

Defense: The problem for him when he's on the floor has always been on defense, and that's one of the reasons he's never quite shot up draft boards. He's a potential 3-and-D player without consistent defense, so to speak. All too often, he gets lost on that end of the floor off the ball. He also hasn't really ever consistently fought through screens well. That's what's made him more of a theoretical high-end prospect as opposed to a true lottery-level prospect like his talent indicates. His game translates to the NBA, and he has the tools to be an effective defender physically. He just needs to make the mental translation once he gets to the league to focus in on the defensive end of the floor more.

A little too excited for his return. Need to see him against NBA guys to bring me down to earth. His decision making, shooting and playmaking should translate really well. He's long and a pretty good athlete, so he shouldn't have trouble against NBA 2s. Anytime a rookie misses training camp and summer league, I really try not to expect much out of them.

Hopefully he can give us a boost. With the amount of open shots our offense generates, I can't see him not helping unless he's really rusty or nervous. Feel like the offense let's anyone with NBA talent flourish in spots at the least.

As much as I wish LeVert could bring Nets some much needed winnable games, I think he needs to 5-10 games to catch up what he has missed.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what the talking head draft sites say. I peruse them all because I'm starved for information and the one constant I've found is they are mostly hacks talking out their arses with regurgitated talking points based on watching some highlight tape. I swear that many of these writers don't even watch the games live or use context (system, teammates, coaching) when grading kids. Trying to project defense is easier than offense imo. You either have the size and length or you don't. The rest, i.e. quickness, IQ, tenacity...can all be worked on though film study, conditioning, and coaching. LeVert has elite size for a SG. He's every bit as talented as Klay and if he comes even close to that, you obviously have a nice building block. If he had been healthy he might have been considered before Jamal Murray and Brown. The only thing Murray might have over him is youth tbh. LeVert is exactly how you'd build a SG from scratch for today's NBA.

His jump shot looks just as pure in high school.

Heir LV at the SG spot!

I think he should be able to guard SGs. Lets go from there.

I'm keeping expectations tempered here. He has yet to play against any NBA talent outside of practice and missed preseason reps and summer league reps. So what we see tonight if he gets in, will be far from what he really can do.

It'll be so awesome if LeVert is better than Jaylen Brown

Exactly. I remember KA saying he was going to go slowly with him when he comes back. If he gets in I doubt it'll be more than a few minutes.

If he started his nba season not on a good showing, kinda 5 straight bad games, I hope people will not bash him. He is a rookie, has not played basketball for many months now and is coming from an injury. Patience should be applied to him.

With Klay Thompson dropping 40 in the 1st half on Monta and the Pacers, I can see why they drafted a long SG who can score from the perimeter

They will, the team is losing and guys are looking for scapegoats to nail on a cross and with so much hype surrounding this kid, if he falters initially they'll pick him apart. That's why I'm glad the coaching staff is going to not rush him into things yet.

Right.

Marks can rebuild around a skill set like that. We could just as easily draft another scoring SG like Terrance Ferguson in the draft and slide LeVert to SF with Rondae off the bench. Building a lengthy wing rotation like Milwaukee.

You can already tell this kid can explode offensively. That level of shooting talent is something not to pass on.

I hope so too.... but so far no one has gone more then 2 or 3 bad games without getting destroyed. we have seen whitehead and RHJ called to be sent to the dleague. Bogs cut or traded. grevis cut. scola cut. Kilpatrick benched.

forum is kneejerk beyond belief thus far
