True. Joel's health is the most important factor of our future success.
I'm not exactly sure of the benefits of his restrictions but if that is what his doctor's recommend, then follow it...I feel like if the bone is fully healed then it will either hold up or it won't. I'm not a doctor, but I assume they are restricting minutes while he rebuilds the muscles in his foot, they evaluate the effectiveness of his footwear, review his running, jumping, landing, and make sure all other conditions are approved before they let him go through a normal NBA schedule.
I don't think that the actual bone is the main driver of the minutes restrictions. I think that they are ramping up load so they could detect any issues with the bone early, but I think that they are mainly concerned with managing the stress on the rest of his body, and think that he is more likely to get a different injury if they ramp him up too quickly.
It sometimes seems as if the restrictions have been in place forever, but in reality he started playing games again in the middle of October, and it has only been a month and a half since then, and they have raised his minutes significantly during that stretch.
If he stays healthy then this whole period will be a foot note in his career. He has gone from 12 to 28 minutes in about 20 games or so.
If he gets from 28 to 36 minutes over the next 20 games, and then goes from zero back to backs to every back to back in the following 20 games then that is good enough for me.
Maybe they get him up to full minutes first, and then start allowing him to play the second game in a back to back with a restriction in that second game? Like 36 minutes in the first game, and then start at 12 min again for the second game, and monitor his body.
If everything is good, then bump him up to 16 min in the next back to back, then 20, then so on.
I want him to have no medical restrictions whatsoever for the start of year 2. That's my home run success wish.
Good point considering he missed the end of college season with stress fractures in the back.

Turns out that they DID give him the choice, and he chose the Nuggets game tonight.

For another ridiculous stat, Embiid is 4th in the league for points per 48 minutes.
Not 4th for centers, fourth for everyone.

His per 36 numbers are up there with the best pace adjusted rookie seasons ever, and this is on top of him having the 2 year lay off.
Its pretty incredible. I think that the league generally accepts him as being a future superstar, but he is pretty much already one.
His fouls and turnovers are still bad, but I expect them to improve as the season goes on.
For all the people that laughed at the Hakeem comparisons, he is already out performing him per 36 mpg as a rookie, and that was after Hakeem played 3 full college seasons.

I was having this conversation the other night....Is he really Hakeem like right now though?
Id say he may be more along the lines of a KG/Dirk/Duncan like than Hakeem right now. His post game might be his rawest skill offensively at the moment , and thats likely due to not playing against competition for so long. He scores in the post, but a lot of that is coming off of sheer size/strength and touch. Once that comes around as he adjusts to NBA physicality/game, he's going to be a truly unique matchup assuming he continues to improve in all other areas he's excelling in.
I knew he would likely be a threat to shoot it from 17 feet when open, and its only a 13 game sample, but man I had no clue that his face up game would be this advanced, this quickly. He's shooting 51% from 3 on almost 3 attempts a game for christ sake.

To me he's more of a hybrid of Anthony Davis and Hakeem, but taller. Yeah, he might be pretty good.

I mean Hakeem in the sense of the array of moves, the dominant rebounder, shot blocker and scorer. He is clearly scoring more of his points away from the basket than Hakeem ever did so really isn't EXACTLY like him, but in terms of his production he is right there with Hakeem as a rookie on a per minute basis.
A lot of people thought that he wasn't worthy of the lofty comparisons, but so far he has proved that he is.

Embiid in a graph with all other top10 picks since 06-06. PER vs MPG.

Only player not in graph is Randle, who posted a PER of -7.9 in that one game he played as a rookie.

PER is a counting/volume stat so it would have been more interesting if they post PER/36mpg vs. mpg so you could so the combination of the rate at which they accumulate stats vs. how much time they play

PER is per minute adjusted.

Okay, then what I said makes no sense. For some reason I always thought it was counted per game played.

Nah, not per game played, it's a scorpion.

Embiid won't play monday but we will feature league's most controversial frontcourt duo of Jah/Noel.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

I'm assuming that this was from that play where he banged his forearm on the rim the other day.
He was holding his arm in pain afterwards. Didn't seem like the elbow though.

This Embiid injury is pretty suspect to me...not saying he isn't injured just it's really convenient he misses the first game Noel is available. Just like it was pretty convenient that Jah happen to be on a 24 minute restriction the same time as Embiid making it unlikely for any complaining about minutes early in the season, despite the fact that the knee surgery happen so long ago.

Are you saying Embiid isnt real? That he's just Jah or Noel in disguise?
