Re: Official 2017 Draft Thread - Something Positive To Look Forward To
After looking at the bottom 10 teams, I think there's a very slight chance that we could get a pick as high as 5. Our defense needs to become bottom 10 bad though(not happening with Whiteside and Winslow out there).I still have us around the 9-10 range. If Giles gets picked before Markkanen then we should be able to get Markkanen with the 9th pick. Next choice should be Anunoby or Rabb. Winslow, OG and Whiteside would make this a top 5 defensive team for years. All we'd need then are offensive players.

Monk/Isaac (Isaac would be a cool SG) pls
A lineup of Dragic, Monk, Winslow, Ibaka, and Whiteside doesn't look too bad next year.
Don't think I want to sign up to watch Max Ibaka but whatever Riles wannado. We'd probably be more likely to trade pick and one of Tyler/Rich than live thru Max Baka'

Re: Official 2017 Draft Thread - Something Positive To Look Forward To
We need another young player with star/superstar potential in this draft. Players IMO that may fit that mold:
JJ
Fultz
DSJ
Giles
Injuries aside, those 4 will give Miami a young star that they can legitimately build around. Any of those 4 would look good with Whiteside. In the NBA, you need a young star that can attract other stars in FA to come to Miami. We had those privileges with Wade, and Riley took advantage of it.
Right now, when I look at the current roster, there is no legit star on the team, and Whiteside is the only one close to being one. The young players are more glorified role player potential. Why would a legit legit star/superstar FA want to come to Miami? Even if Miami can throw the max, most of these FAs are looking to pair up with another star to try amd chase a ring FIRST

I'd lower your standards a bit on what to expect out of this draft. We are trying to stealth tank by having our entire roster out with injuries, but our winning nature keeps eliciting itself. Unless we trade Hassan, I don't see us being bad enough to get a top five pick, unless we miraculously win the lottery. That last bit would be fun for the anti-tankers on here, lol.
Monk, Markanen, Hartenstein, Frank Jackson, and others need a bit more attention in here.

I think you're setting yourself up for disapoint if you think we're currently bad enough to get any of those players(excluding Giles) with the way the mocks are set up now. We're bad but we're not that bad. Also, if Drummond is a star then I'd say Hassan is one too.

So many mixed opinions on Giles, if he's as polarizing as he seems then I hope he goes early or late enough to be a steal

Truth is, a lot of posters haven't seen him play. I had to search for games from two years ago to get an idea. He's got an awkward body, almost looking like a buoy in the water when he's bouncing around in the paint. His upper body is pretty weak, but his base isn't bad at all, unless you take into account that he's got two surgically repaired knees at 19 years old. In no way do I see a player who's going to bang with NBA bigs. He will certainly dash past some guys, but its a linear speed. I don't see any magic or razzle dazzle like you see with bigs like Embiid.
After taking that into account, you here that he's going to be a stretch four, but where's the shot evidencing that? I never saw a guy who was out there knocking down jumpers like a boss to make me feel secure in believing that.
The hype is what really puts me off. I believe its the blind leading the blind. Nobody knows well enough, but if they talk about him enough and blow smoke up everyone's bottom then people will start to believe. I mean, Chris Webber as his NBA comp??? Really??? No freakin' way man.

Probably not the thread for it but how do y'all feel about the 15' draft 1 year out? Last year it was perceived a loaded draft, now not so much
Still early but
Philly fans think Jah might be worse on offense
Mudiay not a very good starter for a few years
Kamisky is Kamisky
WCS on the block
Detroit fans thinking about getting bubblegum fir Stanley
Hezo making his way to grace

Philly fans think Jah might be worse on offense Was never a Jah lover. The debate between him and Towns as the best big was comical to me. I like him as a prospect, but my expectations are a lot lower than the greatest big man to walk the earth label he was carrying for a while there.
Mudiay not a very good starter for a few years Never liked Mudiay.
Kamisky is Kamisky He is what he is.
WCS on the block Nothing between his ears. Good backup center though.
Detroit fans thinking about getting bubblegum fir Stanley Greatest offensive player in last year's draft.
Hezo making his way to grace Super Mario!
My takes in red.
I liked Towns, Russell, Mario and Winslow the most out of last year's draft. Had ho hum expectations for everyone else.

Bish's trying to convince you, that building through the draft isn't working.

I'm surprised he's throwing Stanley under the bus. Heel. Turn.

I was providing context on loaded drafts, ain't always sufficient. Love Stanley tho, looking at his numbers and everyone else through that draft made me go there
'Specially in hindsight of people dogging Winslow in favor of Booker, Stanley

What makes it even crazier is that he's relied solely on athleticism and the 2 knee surgeries haven't dialed down any hype yet. The way he move though reminds me of Myles Turner but the skill set is completely different. I considered Turner the 2nd most talented big in last years draft behind Kat and I think Giles is no Turner.

It's like the Harrison brothers in a way. Were able to outclass their high school counterparts due to a physical advantage. Once they had to play against college players, they didn't look very good. Once they got to the NBA they were never heard from again.
I want skillset, not a physical or athletic advantage. Where'd that get Darius Miles? Its the same thing every year. The same people smoking the same stuff. You have to believe in what you see, not what someone else says. Give me a guy with a great head on his shoulders and an excellent skill set versus a guy who can jump over the backboard.

I want to watch this Duke Florida game but Dick Vitale is unbearable when he's covering Duke.
One note I do have is that Tatum is bigger and stronger than I thought he'd be.

Just tuned into the game late but Tatum has 20 and 7 rn off the bench. He's bigger than I expected, he's more than the 205 lbs listed

I'm not opposed to drafting another SF with Winslow on the team. In todays NBA you play them together anyways through large stretches of the game. I could see Tatum working well with Winslow.
