KJ was a joy to watch. You see his determination and fearlessness there. That is what it took to advance against those Magic Johnson, Stockton/Malone, Olajuwon, David Robinson teams in the day. I truly believe if he was with D'Antoni and SSOL, in the weakened era of the late 2000s, we could have won multiple championships. I can't imagine what KJ/Marion/Amare could do. Don't get me wrong, I love Nash, but he was a little more passive and could have been a bit more aggresive. KJ always seemed like he knew exactly what he was going to do. Nash seemed to drive to the basket and then dribble around under it like he didn't have a plan or jump and in mid air try to dump it...

Nash the better shooter. Had he shot MORE like Curry, we might have a championship right now. Maybe not, but if you are one of the best shooters in the history of the nba, why are you scoring less than 20 pts a game? NO ONE is as efficient as you. It's simple math.

You know what was probably the craziest game to watch back then other than game 7 in 95? Was game 2 in 94. Houston had HCA, and I didn't expect us to win the series, but then we steal game 1. So in game 2 I'm expecting them to roar back. And they did, for 3 qtrs. We were down 18 going into the 4th, but we outscored them 26-8 in the 4th and won OT by 7. So with a two game lead, and the next two at home we were looking good. But we blew both of the next games at home and they won game 5 as well, then fairly easily in game 7 as I recall.

That 4th qtr would be interesting to watch if you can find it. We were just reigning 3s...Ainge and Majerle I think.

Our 95 team seemed much better, but of course we blew that series as well after leading 3-1 with game 5 at home. Then lost game 7 on a Mario Elie 3 at the end. That was as bad as series to me as the Spurs in 2007.

... haunting game to watch live. I cannot even call it "exciting," as the pressure was too much. Something for another thread if I get back to it ...

I have viewed this game again multiple times in recent years, by the way.

Part of what made K.J. and Nash great was that they rarely prejudged plays—they were constantly reading the defense and making decisions in the moment, based on how the defense reacted to them, hence their efficiency. And their knowledge or awareness of the court was also outstanding. As Tim Perry said of K.J. after this win in Boston in January 1992, "K.J. gets people the ball and gets guys shots. He's a lot like Magic Johnson in that he knows where everyone is."

http://www.databasebasketball.com/teams/boxscore.htm?yr=1991&b=19920124&tm=BOS

Nash was the same way, although aided by the extra space created by D'Antoni's offense and today's rules.

I do agree that if Nash had shot the ball a little more often, his Phoenix teams would have been better equipped to win a championship, although they still would have needed to overcome their mediocrity on defense and the boards (which was largely the cost of that "extra space").

1. Someone make chriss watch film of amare's offense and have him emulate that as much as possible.
2. If amare's knees held up one more year we are in the '06 finals. No way the mavs beat us, they had no answer inside for amare.
3. **** q-rich and his awful shooting. Best thing about signing him was trading for Kurt.
4. Wish Marion could play in the half court against San Antonio.
5. **** Robert horry.

The worst part about the whole Q Rich thing is that had we not blown money on him, when we already had JJ, we likely would have kept our draft pick, probably drafted Iguodala and JJ would have gotten his early extension. Maybe 04-05 wouldn't have been quite as good with a rookie instead of Q, but subsequent to that our cap and potential would have been far better.

Haven't drank any alcohol today, remembering that draft pick trade forced me to get the vodka. Not sure which was worse, that trade or trotting amare out after selling another pick and proclaiming him to the their draft pick.

I bet we could have still traded for Boris for a very low price. He was trash before coming here.

Props to you for watching a Suns game without any Vodka...but now we can together say  to reminiscing about what could have been.
