Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I'm happy for him, he was a great guy off the court.

Yeah, good for him. Going to the D league was the best thing for him - hopefully he gets playing time with the Nets so he can continue to develop.

That just shows what a gap in talent there is between the NBA and D-league. I also saw that Ray McCallum was averaging NBA all-star averages. Couldn't crack Detroit's roster.
Don't get caught up in the hype. Rarely do these guys translate to NBA level contributors.

Like most young guys time is a what they need to develop.
This could be all Spencer needed to become a decent back up PG.
IF he's found his shot and confidence then he's got a chance

Ish Smith bounced around for years before becoming a legit NBA rotation player. Spencer can still be a solid backup someday.

This is a good fit, Nets desperately need young talent. ANY. Anthony Bennett is starting to look decent.

Wish the Mayor well. There were a few times with the Pistons when he looked good. Fair to say D-league guys rarely make it, but some do.

yes and no, the problem with the d league is everyone on average is shorter so there is less size allowing guys with size at their position or guys that struggle against 7 footers to play well

Re: Nets Sign Spencer Dinwiddie To Partially Guaranteed Three-Year Deal
I'm just saying that while there are a lot of players who bounce back and forth, the number of impact players that are "developed" are few and far between. Those that do, seem to have an ability or contribution to hang their hat on (defense, size, 3-pt. shooting, etc.). They just need to work on some other facet to round out their game to be NBA level talents.
Spencer never stood out to me as one of those guys that was close to being a regular contributor (just my opinion), which basically relegates him to 3rd string/NBADL level player...
It would be sweet to see him play meaningful minutes some day. Hopefully he does. But I'm not wishing Detroit held on to him, based on some NBADL stats 6 months after we traded him (for Cameron Bairstow), and 3 months after Chicago placed him on waivers.

Re: Nets Sign Spencer Dinwiddie To Partially Guaranteed Three-Year Deal
The guy looked terrific in his debut.
What was the matter when he was in Detroit?
Interesting thing was his three point percentage, pretty good in college and D-League but horrible in the NBA.
Was he regarded as a promising prospect?

He had some promising games his rookie year, but last year he was really bad. Couldn't beat out Steve Blake for the backup pg role

Well, I happen to be a big fan of Blake's! (since the Terps)

Any more specifics?
