Gameday Thread: Nets at Spurs

Post#1 » by -Sammy- » Sat Dec 10, 2016 11:40 am

WHEN: Saturday, December 10, 2016, 7:30PM Central
WHERE: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

FACT: There is no such thing as a 'gimme game' in the AT&T Center this season.

The Nets' NBA-worst defense should give the Spurs fertile ground to harvest some offensive fruit, and we definitely need the opportunity to have a breathing-room game. Jeremy Lin will sit this one, which will give that much more incentive for our frontcourt to pressure leading-Brooklyn-scorer Brooke Lopez to defer to their thin backcourt; I'd love to see Dedmon get extended minutes guarding Lopez.

Here's hoping the good guys do what they're supposed to do tonight!

I'm hoping Pops shakes up the starting lineup tonight, he kinda hinted at the possibility after the Bulls game. A message needs to be sent about our slow starts.

We are shooting well but its easy when the team playing us is just going through the motions. Brooklyn looks like the worst team we've played by far this year and that includes Dallas.

Hopefully we get some things ironed out tonight moving forward.

Patty Mills red hot. We tried to force feed LMA on 3-4 possessions in a row in the 3rd. but he just looks uncomfortable. I really don't blame him. We need to try to get him more involved offensively.

Anderson is just plain bad. I'm surprised because this franchise gave him every opportunity to be a main guy. He just looks in over his head and still passes up wide open shots like crazy making the offense look horrible.

Just watched the reply and some good signs thankfully.

Obviously a relief that we finally had a decent first quarter.

Mills is just amazing this year. He has improved so much. His shooting isn't quite at it's best but his ballhandling and playmaking and even shots around the rim are at levels I never thought Patty would reach. I'm sure the Olympic campaign helped him a lot. (And seriously, who throws an alley-oop pass like he did to Simmons in traffic like that? Takes confidence!)

Bertans again putting in work. He is always jumping for rebounds, I think he got a couple blocks again tonight and his reverse dunk showed some athleticism. He is going to be a keeper.

And yet again, I'm impressed with Simmons and his constantly improving play making. This has come from nowhere, but I imagine started from Pop possibly in his ear about looking selfish at times because now Simmons is driving and dishing and really showing some great court vision. Using his ability to get by most defenders and find teammates. It's pretty impressive and if he can develop a more consistent jumper, look out.

I'll agree with the point a few of you made the other day, I don't like Gasol and Aldridge on court together. In one sense it does create a lot of space for Kawhi but defensively it seems to hurt us. Thankfully the Nets couldn't do much but going forward I think starting Dedmon will be best for the team.

Agreed on all points.

Honestly, we need to throw standard Spurs operating procedures out the window and play Dedmon and Bertans more (a whole lot more). One of the two should be first off the bench every game after Mills.

Terrifying stat of the day: Kawhi has played 518/810 of his minutes this year with Gasol on the floor (64%).

Great win. Definitely one of our best first quarters of the year. We started off red and finished that way as well. Kawhi and Patty were both amazing and no one really had a bad game actually.

Hopefully Dedmon's little injury isn't too serious, we need him healthy.

Overall great job now lets make this style of play the new norm.
