Re: Complimenting Rose
What Rose has lacked in pure passing/vision and creating for teammates he is actually making up for by simply taking scoring pressure off Melo/KP, making timely/late game buckets and simply setting an attacking/relentless tone in games. He is fearless and I think that carries over to our team.
We can all knock Rose's vision/PG skills but our offense is fine and scoring a bunch of points -- right now our primary issue is improving our team defense/concepts and simply NOT just trying to walk out and outscore teams.
This team right now has 3-4 legit guys who can get buckets in Rose/Melo/KP and now Jennings becoming more offensive minded -- add on that C-Lee is NOT afraid of taking big-shots and we are a handful offensively. At least when we don't play Cavs and I expect we will probably get torched by GS but you never know.

I tell you how it will go down, he will want a max, the Knicks will refuse to give it to him, he'll test the market, realize that he will not get a max anywhere, and sign for 3/60, or something like that. That would probably still be overpay. If he gets injured of course, all of this becomes irrelevant. It all starts with him staying healthy all season and playing this well.
with $30m max deals, 3/$60m isn't an overpay for a guy like rose performing to his capabilities. he will test the market for his services if we let him hit free agency after a healthy season.
as has been asked... what better options are out there? we're either going to have to bring him back on as favorable a deal as possible or let him walk and take a step back in our backcourt situation.
we let rose walk and it's free ron baker. jennings will probably want to stay and play FT PG, which, as much as i love dude, frightens the hell out of me.

I like the way he's been playing and seems to be meshing well with everyone. Still don't want him on a long-term deal though

Barring major injury, it's looking more and more like that's what's gonna happen. And we'll be lucky to retain Jennings.
I think we should _try_ to retain both Jennings and Holiday.
if they make the 2nd round, i think for sure they'll try to bring everyone back and hope that kp, willy and whoever the rook is will offer enough internal improvement. maybe they'll give up a second or 2 to try get someone to take lance to accomplish that. not that lance is not playing ok now but he's kind of a luxury compared to jennings and holiday.

Re: Complimenting Rose
Let's make this fun.
Rose is a decent distributing SG with a streaky outside shot but adept at getting into the paint.
Who do you draft to pair with him if the Knicks resign him for 3 years.
That means that Noah, CLee, Anthony, Porzingis, Rose and for arguments sake, BJ, Holiday, Willie B, and Kuz are the core for the next 3 years. Who do you draft? BPA? Solid floor general and good shooter to pair with Rose? Backup PF since it's missing on the team?
Go.

Holiday's outside shooting and his ability to guard 2's and a lot of 3's make him a must bring back. Arguably over Jennings, if there was a choice (and I hope Jennings comes back, and I think he will)

you just draft bpa and make it work. by the time that player is done with his rookie contract you'll have a new team here. shouldn't bypass anyone based on the current makeup of the team.

BTW just want to make clear I love how Rose is playing and at this point would lean towards re-upping (obviously the next 60 games will help better determine that) but was hoping for discussion on how we can find a player to take this group to the next level

Re: Complimenting Rose
If they bring everyone back, I hope they also sign Darren Collison. A guy who can play next to a PG but also be the PG.
Can someone confirm that if we keep DRose cap hold, we will not have cap space and therefore will have the MLE? Not sure how that works in this scenario.
As a draft pick, some guys I'm looking at assuming we're picking in the late teens:
Jared Blossomgame
Edmond Sumner

I think the bar is lower than that. We'll also have the not particularly impressive MLE if we extend Rose prior to free agency. Agreed that some smaller gymnastics between Willy/KOQ/Lance are probably necessary to round out the roster. Rose injury showed we're still thin on guards and it's looking like we miss on the better PG prospects.

Re: Knicks not ruling out DRose extension later in the season
Some players are worth taking a risk and a gamble on. Rose is that player. He's worth the gamble. He's beginning to put up his All-Star production of his golden years but yet still explosive and acrobatic as ever.
I'm not even worried about an injury to Rose either. His previous injuries have rejuvenated him here in N.Y. He's playing with so much more control & a lot less reckless abandonment. His athleticism is still amazingly unreal but I'm no longer worried about an injury to Rose due to the game having slowed down for him.
In Chicago that kid was asked to carry the offense and in return responded as the youngest MVP in NBA history but the weight of having to carry his city on his back physically broke him. He tried too hard.
I'm already ready to extend this dude. His NBA game is still top notch. You're not going to find an offseason PG who can drive to the rim, blow past defender's, penetrate the lane & attack quite like Rose.
And here in N.Y? Unlike Chicago he'll no longer need to try as hard. He can simply let the game come to him and not the other way around. Unlike Chicago he'll no longer have the burden of having to carry N.Y.C. Thanks to both Anthony & Porzingis.
One thing you can never question is this mans fight, heart, determination, strength or will to win. He's an NBA warrior who's battled back (and overcame multiple injuries). If there's one player who's deserving of a risk and a gamble? It's this man; he's a Chicago native built for New York.

been kicking the tires on this for a while. I don't see (and I've looked) better options that are Better than either Rose or Jennings. Would like to see what Baker can do as a 3rd guard but, at the same time, Jeff has earned my trust.

And to be honest, I don't even think Rose will want to be here. He will have a fine year, someone will for sure overpay for him, so he can be 2nd or even 1st guy on their team. because of his name. In NY, he is bound to be a 3rd give for years to come..
He's said he wants to finish his career as a Knick.

if you lock rose up, the only players aging out are melo and noah. and they're kind of the elder statesmen (along with rose) who are going to build the young guys up into monsters. i can kinda go with this group for now. i'm not going to entertain the FA foolishness, and we look to be building a silo of our own. a team we can be proud of that will be flexible enough to add pieces when the time is right.
and more important, being competitive in new york will make FAs consider it. it's always going to be hard to beat out bird rights, but you have to be a desirable situation to have a chance. KD left paper on the table because he wants to enjoy going to work for the rest of his career. i completely understand that.

Re: Knicks not ruling out DRose extension later in the season

Rose's defense during his last 10 games hes played has been solid (especially after the bad start to the season on that end). He is holding players to 35.7% from the field. His biggest improvement probably has been getting over screens to contest jumpers. Players are shooting 26.8 % from beyond the arc during this stretch.
