Did it hurt seeing Porzingis go off on us? (Ding article)

Post#1 » by XXBKXX » Tue Dec 13, 2016 6:35 am

Was it as painful for you guys as it was for me to watch Porzingis go off on us yesterday where as DLo had five turnovers and played terrible? It did to me. Whiffing on Porzingis is going to haunt us for years to come. DLo will be a decent player but it's clear to me he will not even be a border line all star in his prime. Porzingis on the other hand is a transformational player..

Anyone read Kevin Dings article on Porzingis? This is like salt in the wound seeing how Lakers brass seemed to have already made up their minds before the workout that he was "soft".

I love this media..How many teams would do the same what Knicks did?
I u Have chance to draft Russel and Okafor before him.Probably none..He was so called 3-4 year project...You need major balls for that knowing European ''bust''drafts, and Phil has that kinda balls.

Easy matchup versus Randle honestly.

I actually think Russell will be better than "a border line all star in his prime" merely in part due to a coach like Luke and that this team has real competition for that leadership role if Russell can't handle the responsibility, he looks the type to relish thos opportunities.

I'd wait till 2-3 full seasons before throwing my toys out of the pram. If we go by 15 month timelines, Harden was bust, Westbrook was an inefficient chucker and T-Mac would have been out of the league.

I'm sure the fans around the league absolutely LOVE you for this thread...

That said, Porzingis has been better in the short term than Russell for sure... But that's to be expected of their positions. Russell's peak isn't probably for another 4 or 5 years, whereas Porzingis may be the best he'll ever be in a year or 2.

I'm still not sold on Porzingis in the long term. Not sure I'm sold on Russell in the long term either... But I see nothing right now to get all that fired up about either way.

Of course it hurt.

I seem to remember Porzingis videos going viral during the 2015 draft workouts. Dude was 7'3'' and knocking down 3's like it was his job - he was also skying high and slamming it down at full speed.

I'd rather have him, yeah, but no freaking way was this franchise in a position to take a possible Skeeter Euro bust. Just not something leadership could survive and probably not even before he even played a game. As I said before that draft- "Kristaps will probably be awesome, but you cannot make that gamble if you are the Lakers, you just can't"

Nope didn't hurt at all.. We got Russell and he's going to be just fine in the long run... You knew this comparison was coming after the other night but seems lot's of folks with the knee jerk reaction forget it was Russell's first game back after a month off so of course he's not going to light the world on fire.. guarantee, if Russell hadn't missed that time and was playing like he had been playing before the injury this article and all the other nonsensical comments on social media wouldn't be being asked/said

Yeah definitely didn't hurt at all because I can't really blame the Lakers FO to pass on Porzingis. Like someone said before, it takes some serious balls to pick a euro guy at the number 2, especially after the whole Darko thing. So I don't really blame them, I would have done the same thing. The real decision for the Lakers was Russell or Okafor. Now if Okafor was dropping 20 and 20 and beasting everyone on defense, that would definitely hurt lol.

Same here... Not hurt at all. Don't see why anyone would be. Glad KP is doing well but we didn't have the luxury of being able to take a flyer on an unknown prospect with the number 2 overall pick. Plus, it's not like we got Darko Milicic, or Johnny Flyn in the deal. D'Lo has shown he can play.

There's a whole lot of anti-Laker fans out there who really really really want us to be salty about this. I'm not tho. I'd like to see those guys write a "Is Philly salty they passed on KP?" article. Not gonna happen, because the Philly name doesn't get them all worked up like the Laker name does, and Philly doesn't sell articles the way the Laker name does.

A lot of Knick fans hated that pick. Cried about how that single pick had ruined their franchise lol. Good for KP for showing them how dumb and wrong they are. Glad he's doing good. He's a great player.

As soon as Russell will be seeing starting minutes like he should anyways, this argument will cease to exist.

So that means about a month, tops...

D'Angelo Russell has been one of the least pampered guys out of the lottery, from the 2015 draft.

Mudiay got a ton of minutes.
Booker got a botload of minutes.
Towns got a lot of minutes.
Porzingis got a lot of minutes.
Winslow got a lot of minutes.
Okafor got a lot of minutes when Embiid wasn't around.
Turner got a lot of minutes.

D'Angelo has been getting squat....as soon as he made a mistake last year, his ass was riding the bench... don't tell me those other guys didn't make mistakes, because I'll slap you right around the **** throat. But they got to play through their mistakes, and that's precisely why guys like Devin Booker for example, got to evolve astronomically in such a short span....BY **** PLAYING LOTS OF MINUTES... same with Porzingis, who had plenty of stinkers in 1.5 years, yet nobody had a leash on his ass.

We need to turn him loose, the season is compromised anyway.....play it like it's his team, for a whole year...not with this **** gimmick, 25 minutes a game? That's an insult, it really is.
If he fails, then do the talking...not now though. He didn't get the chance others are getting.

KP can play but D Lo was the right pick at the time... Philly should be catching the criticism, could you imagine the headache of playing against KP & Embid for 10 years at the 4/5... Damn...

THAT would be insane. And... Simmons at the 3. With 2 big guys who can both post down low or step out and shoot form anywhere on the court. Sheesh.

I'd read that article... Oh, It doesn't exist. Oh... never mind I guess.

Not a single team in the league would've taken Porzingis #2, I find his performance pretty irrelevant to how i view that draft.

At this very point, yeah KP looks very good. When it was draft time I was on the bandwagon, hell, I was on the jetwagon for Russell. Not to say I'm not on the Russell wagon, I still am very firmly on that wagon. Lakers needed a PG in the baddest way and we took a very tall PG with passing and shooting skills. Hard to pass that up during the draft.

Knicks took the leftovers and got lucky with KP, simple as that.
