Re: Stanley Johnson Thread
How the hell was Stanley Johnson sent to the d-league? I don't pay much attention to Detroit basketball but I remember despite being swept, Stanley did a solid job guarding LeBron.

Glitch in the schedule allowed us to send him down for a game

He's been having a really rough time this season. Hasn't looked confident on the court as of late either, I presume SVG sent him there to try and get him some playing time where he's the focal point of a team to remind him of what he's capable of.
There's a large discrepancy between Stanley's talent and how talented he believes himself to be, but he's definitely a better player than he's shown this season.

Re: Stanley Johnson Thread
I root for Stanley. Losing his mother right after the draft was rough. I think it says a lot that he was willing to go to the D-League just to get some serious playing time and get his confidence back. His jumpshot form is funky though. He shoots with his legs spread far apart.

Re: Stanley Johnson Thread
Watching those D-League highlights sort of confirms to me that he would be best served in an uptempo offense (such as playing with Ish running the show). Stanley does well when he is running the floor for easy baskets and struggles in half court when the defense is set (due to poor footwork, slow decision making, among other things). Also, his shot still looks a little flat but probably better than last year.

Re: Stanley Johnson Thread
Stanley kinda sucked in the second half when the Drive lost the game. Turnovers in particular. Still a good game for him and Henry overall. May need more time in GR to get his groove back.

I'd rather they get playing time for the Drive then ride the bench for the Pistons.

Your memory is off. Lebron absolutely manhandled johnson. He shot like 90% against him

Basically we have more ready now players ahead of him and no longer "dont' have a choice". Now that we have Jon leur is allows us to play mook and TH in different lineups.
So there are currently no minutes for SJ. Furthermore SVG and SJ discussed the move and agreed it was the right move. Get him some minutes and run. Ultimately the problem isn't SJ is struggling but more so he's more talk than walk.

At least Goodwill writes for a major paper....
"Sources have told CSNChicago.com the Pistons have resisted overtures for Johnson but with the recent developments, expect executives for rival teams to be more aggressive.
No one can deny what Johnson can physically bring to the table and if teams view him as an undervalued commodity by the Pistons, things can get interesting with the trade season kicking off December 15. – by Vincent Goodwill"

The Only way I see SVG making a trade with this core outside of Baynes is if they trade up in talent. I mean a package for another very good player or all-star.

Re: Stanley Johnson Thread
Makes no sense for the team to trade Johnson now given our make-up and salary structure/tax issue. He's on a rookie deal - so we could only reasonably trade him for another player on a rookie deal or a first rounder. If it was the later case I don't think anybody trades a future lotto pick for him right now, so we'd be looking at something like a future top 14 protected pick for him and that is a downgrade. It's too soon to consider trading struggling rookie scale for struggling rookie scale - he's the player we know and what the prevailing issues are with him and he's only a third of a year into his second season - this time next year or beyond it would be something to consider if he's still struggling.
Our tax/cap issue is why we don't package him with Baynes. We brought Boban in to replace Baynes, I think the idea is Baynes will walk and with him his $7M cap hit - we don't want to extend that hit by trading him for a player with more years.
Our Starters are pretty much locked in to the level at least I don't think Stan would want to shake that up in a major way. Reggie, KCP and Dre are locked in, Toby, Mook and Leuer get vast majority of forward minutes. Leuer was just signed to a four year contract, you can't trade that person in his first half season in to that contract, and with Mook you're paying him peanuts - you have to give him playing time to keep him content and happy.
ONLY way I could see Stanley traded right now is in a blockbuster for a Paul George, with the idea that the ownership and management has decided they don't thin KCP is worth $25M a season so package him and Johnson for a sub-28 yr old SG. But I don't think any team is looking to move that player.

Goodwill is about as valid a source as that website paying people for rumors. I am pretty sure almost any player on our team is available at the right price and that SVG and co have at least listened to any offers. Johnson for Okafor maybe a intriguing thought . posted this in a thread but maybe interesting

basically we are in perfect position to wait and see what is offered. While we don't need to make a move we can be persuaded as there is always room to improve roster talent to contend as that is what it would take for any move. SVG will examine and rexamine value, cap , flexibilty , versatility etc. before he makes any more.
i wonder if PHX would be interested in trading Booker for SJ......................

Re: Stanley Johnson Thread
Kilo is right - as usual.
Given our salary structure I don't think there's a realistic trade option for SJ.
But I believe playing time opens up for him once Baynes is gone:
Dre 33 / Jon 15
TH 33 / Jon 10 / King 5
Mook 28 / SJ 20
KCP 33 / Hilly 15
RJ 33 / Ish 15
That could be the rotation next season with Bobo and Benji getting situational minutes...
IF King proves capable he'd allow us to rest Dre, TH, Mook, Jon & SJ more
Gotta think long term
