A.do believe basketball players play Defense on an island ...which is fine. A lot of lazy casual observers believe that...and if that's true the best basketball players would be players that are great at one on one basketball. MAN ON MAN...but oddly enough it isnt true. If you play ball at any level beyond the park...you realize that great one on one players are not always the best player on the team and often the worse one on one player is actually a decent defender because he shades his man to help.
B. Dont believe Wall or Beal (cause Beal had Dragic today to) can be trying but not be capable of stopping their man. Has anyone ever thought...wait...Wall or Beal CANT stop Dragic one on one...and that's just a matter of fact...not something you can change but something you can coach against by changing the defense. I know its a novel idea that humans ...even the ones that play basketball have limitations...but they do. See last years MVP...he cant guard westbrook or kyrie...and Kyrie cant guard him one on one. There are just limits to the human machine. A lot of people have posted that Wall and Beal are defensive liablities because of 4 things- 2 they cant fix and 1 they can try to improve and 1 that's a what ever for now.
1. Injuries have hurt their lateral movement (wall two knee surgeries and should be on minutes limit and Beal always hurt...same issues with minutes)
2.no help offense - why because we don't have a big to help out in Morris or Gortat that can protect the rim...at lease Nene would foul hard.
3. They dont play defense to thier help when help is there...which may be true sometimes other times not.
4. They have to play so many minutes and score so many points...its hard to imagine they have anything left in the tank sometimes to really play quality defense -
These are not excuses but just facts that you can refute if you feel inclined but if you watch any or played any ball you know that these come into play.
Btw...your post are starting to inch close to the troll zone. The clear indication of this is when you get like a million comments from people that are allllll in opposition to your position on mulitple threads...when it seems like you target a clearly controversial point that people may believe in some small part. but then you use the point to make a larger much more wide reaching assertion that is clear to everyone else to be stretch at best....then you hammer it home with a conclusion that is not supported by the facts but its slightly connected to your initial point. The correlation makes sense. It's hard to give maximum defensive effort when you're not getting consistent shots.

I mean even in high school basketball if one guy is hogging the ball, everyone else starts losing motivation to work as hard on defense. Reward everyone with touches, and everyone stays locked in. Human nature I guess.

It's lazy analysis to put the blame on one guy for our defensive woes.
You just made it sound like each guy is out there defending on an island when it's the furthest thing from the truth.
Secondly the bench is a problem every time we play. It may not always show in the on/off numbers but our starters have a heavier burden thrown on them every night than starters on other teams. Its frankly unsustainable. I've seen our starting group press because our bench has given up a lead or allowed the opponent to develop a rhythm on too many occasions.
I watched the game and second what Meliorus is saying. Noted, defense is a team effort, but I am not sure if this is philosophy (saw the same crap with Wittman last year), Wall reaches or can't stay in front of his man, leaving a scramble to cover.
This might be intentional to funnel the ball-handler into a contested mid-range jumper, but crafty PGs feast on that little bit of space. Superior handles allow them to get to the rim against a non-shot blocking Gortat or dump it off to a teammate for an open shot.
Either way, something has to change and it is not singling out Wall when you watch him trailing on damn near every single possession.

Ernie, EG, EGg...he put the IT in suckitude, and it just keeps growing like a mad basketball zombie cyst. Tell you one thing, Brooks is one of the best coaches around when it comes to negotiating contracts.
