Re: Around the NBA, 2016-17 Season thread
Dirk Nowitzki, and the 2011 Mavs team is the one thing that gives me hope in the remote possibility that one day the Nets can build a legitimate contending team around a player like Brook Lopez. Now, I'm not comparing the great Dirk Nowitzki to the pretty good Brook Lopez, but rather drawing the comparison in order to highlight what it takes to defeat the superteams of the modern NBA. The Mavs making it out of the West at all that year is a feat second only to the fact that they took down the newly formed Miami Heat superteam
This took a lot of great players, such as the Nets HOFer and GOAT Nets PG Jason Kidd, but most of all it took cohesion and execution of all the moving parts at the highest level. Its a team that might not have looked impressive when you weighed its individual parts, but its sum was so much greater. It was an elite team from one of the non-glamorous NBA franchises, and something I definitely appreciated watching as a Nets fan
Watching Jason Kidd win the ring the Nets simply didn't have enough to get him to surpass the Super Spurs and the Shaq/Kobe Lakers was also pretty cool.

The Boston Celtics are just 13-12 after losing to the Spurs tonight. Maybe they are not as good as they thought there were after all. That's like 18th pick for the Nets if the draft was held today?

Bayless out for season, perhaps the Sixers are more likely to make a trade?

Richard Jefferson with two of the season's most savage dunks (next to Lopez getting killed by Nance Jr and Karl Anthony Towns) today on Kevin Durant and now just Klay Thompson. He wrecked that dude

Re: Around the NBA, 2016-17 Season thread
He made so many high IQ, unselfish basketball plays in this video. The guy is a flat out stud player that's making everyone around him better. PG is clearly his natural position and he does it in a manner where he's STILL able to destroy the opponents with his own offensive game. crazy stuff.
Top 5 player in the sport right now, without question.
The next time someone tries to bash him on here, I'm just going to post this video.

I don't think Rivers even remotely meant to intentionally cause him harm, he even tried to apologize once he realized he bumped the ref. That ref, like many other **** NBA refs, tried to make himself the center of attention. Worst officials in all of pro sports next to baseball umpires.

Re: Around the NBA, 2016-17 Season thread
The James Harden trade wasn't that bad....
One day you'll have to explain to your kid that three of the top 5 players in the NBA once all played for the same team...and their GM pulled the first jenga brick to topple the tower in an effort to save money for the owner.
It's crazy how, at the time, it was easy to downplay their greatness. Especially since they were young and figuring it out. In retrospect, you look at it and say how didn't this work. Westbrook is amazing, but probably a natural 2- and would have to take less shots to mitigate his inefficiency most nights (uneless he gets hot), James running the point, Durant would get the bulk of the volume. Yet, getting blown out against the Heat made their GM shake the snowglobe enough to alter their development permanently.
James had to leave to prove his worth as a starter - and was great but neeeded D'Antoni to finally play to his strengths. Westbrook as a battering ram is leading a playoff team in his own right. And Durant is seeking that perfect fit in Golden State.
Too much basketball greatness

And I think they made the trade cuz of the corpse of Kendrick Perkins and the older than reported Ibaka?

So the Pelicans are now close to signing Motiejunas for the VET MINIMUM smh. We get screwed again. NBA didn't even bother to look into the situation. I don't know how the Rockets weren't penalized for what they did.

Dang, that's forked up. Oh well, not sure how much Marks wants him anyways, have to waive someone, that's not very good if his back is problematic. OTOH, apparently, aMorey didn't break any rule.
