Game 26: Los Angeles Clippers (18-7) @ Orlando Magic (11-15) - 7:00 PM ET

Post#1 » by og15 » Thu Dec 15, 2016 12:28 am

The Clippers still rank in the top five in both offensive and defensive rating. That typically means the team is among the very best in the league.

Since Thanksgiving, though, the Clippers have been much more middle of the road -- ninth in offensive rating and 16th in defensive rating. The certainly explains some of the slippage and the missteps the team has made in the last few weeks.

L.A. is hoping the three-game road trip to the East Coast -- all against losing teams in the Southeast Division -- can help the team keep moving back in the right direction and back toward contention.

His 3PT shooting is looking really good. He shot 42% 3PT the last 21 games last season. He's at ~37% 3PT for the season, and last 10 games he was at 53.1% 3PT, 46.2% 3PT in his last 15 games.

that part has been baffling. He has the Rondo syndrome. No way he should be less than a 70% FT shooter.

I complained about the over switching before, and the play a couple of plays ago demonstrates this. Austin fights over the screen, he's with his man, but Blake has already decided to switch, and Austin runs back to Blake's man as they switch. Why just automatically switch ALL the time without even trying to fight over? In this case Austin even fights over, but Blake was already committed to switching. They cause too many unnecessary bad matchups for themselves and it also forces them to commit to some help that they don't need to when they are helping against the mismatch.

DJ nailing his FTs during hack-a-DJ. He keeps the lead for the team. He sits down and Doc goes with Hack-a-Biyombo and he misses both. Funny stuff. The bench comes in and loses the lead. Not so funny. So proud of DJ for obviously working on the off season.

And Austin is going through one of those stretches where he looks like a legit NBA player. I like those stretches.

I had a number of things to deal with involving my kids during the game. Glad we won the 4th and won the game.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Ralph and Mike made mention of John Welch when talking about DJ's improved free-throw shooting tonight. I posted a few links/articles on Welch in the Bob Thate thread prior to the season.

Nice, I honestly didn't know DJ had a new shooting coach. Give that man a raise because he did what Thate could never do all these years...help DJ actually look like he's confident shooting FTs.

Wins are great, but this team is just winning by out-offensing the opponent, that's just not going to cut it.

Austin is now shooting 45/41 and his TS% is up to 54.9%. Like mentioned earlier he finished last season shooting 42% 3PT over his last 20 games, so this is very interesting.
