Belinelli doesn't look bad at all. However Jeff Taylor once tore it up for the Swedes, so who knows.

He better hope that the New Orleans version of Bellinelli shows up instead of the Sacramento version otherwise he's going to look like a dumbass.

I mean the GSW, CHI, and SAS models would work too. It's a pretty safe bet that he's going to bounce back, he's a career 38% 3 point shooter and he's only 30 without a ton of miles on him.

Yeah, I'm holding out hope that he's another Marvin Williams, Josh McRoberts, CDR, etc that Cho pulled out from nowhere and turned out to be way better than anyone anticipated. But Bellinelli isn't like those guys- even at his best, he's a subpar defender. And unfortunately we've not had as good luck with the under-the-radar signings that don't play defense- think Gary Neal, Spencer Hawes, Brian Roberts, Ben Gordon.

Belinelli was often handcuffed to the wrong position and the wrong players. Truly fascinated to see him at SF between Lamb and Batum (hopefully) at PF.

I hope so. I'm hoping Batum and MKG actually stay healthy this year. If not, CHA don't got a 3 & D guy in Lee to hold it down, they got Marco which scares me.

I think you mean his real value was a 2nd rounder. His market value was a 1st rounder, as we gave them a 1st rounder. With the other trades, i.e., George Hill, I think it was safe to say he was worth the 22nd pick.

I really can't understand all the pessimistic viewpoints about this guy. He had one bad season, playing on one of the worst benches in the NBA. We've never drafted well late in the first rounds, and I think this was a smart move. And, It's not like he has an unfavorable contract.

Marvin Williams really became a good defender after he joined us. I never saw McRoberts as a great defender, but a smart defender. Bellinelli is a much better shooter than Neal, and even better handling the ball. He's got a very crafty game.

The Charlotte Hornets asked shooting guard Nic Batum what he thought of Marco Belinelli before completing the trade that acquired Belinelli from the Sacramento Kings.

"I said, ‘Do it right now!’" Batum recalled Monday with a sense of gusto.

Batum and Belinelli have played against each other since they were teenagers in Europe. Batum sees a wide skill set in Belinelli that somewhat reminds him of his own game. So the chance to add a shooter with complementary passing ability made Belinelli quite attractive to Batum, who re-signed with the Hornets in July.

"He’s a great player. I think people don’t know how crazy (good) he is," Batum said. "He can shoot from everywhere and anywhere. If he gets a shot, he can make it. "

"I’ve always been a huge fan of his," said Clifford, who starts coaching his fourth training camp in Charlotte Tuesday morning.

"The thing I like about him is he has played his best in the biggest games. Look back at him in the Finals with San Antonio. He played terrific. I think he can do a lot of the things offensively that we got from Jeremy and Courtney (Lee)."

"I’m a good 3-point shooter, even though last season with the Kings wasn’t all that good," Belinelli said. "I think I handle the ball well, too. On the pick-and-roll, I can create for teammates.

One trait he feels his new team shares with the Spurs is unselfishness.

"Sacrifice is the most important thing. On offense and defense, everybody is ready to help each other," Belinelli said. "I’m going to score and play the best defense that I can."

He knows he’s coming off a season that created doubts. He brought that up before being asked at Monday’s media session.

"The year in Sacramento was really tough for me. It was tough for the Kings," Belinelli said. "Those things happen. I’m motivated to be here."

Belinelli was invisible in half 1 vs MIL but I thought he grew into the game nicely in the second half. He appeared to want to play a Batum-lite role of playmaking, and you could see, for instance with that sweet floor length pass to Batum for a lay-in, that he can be a decent compliment to our top 9. He looks like he's lost confidence in his shot, but a couple purple patches and i could see him being another successful Cliff/Cho reclamation project.

I agree that he sort of grew into the game offensively. That **** he pulled on the Terry fastbreak might fly in Sacramento but not here (although it was a bad call).

It's interesting he tends to take a lot of jumpshots where he's fading to one side or the other.
