lol.

I mean there's things called "title eliminators".

Though the winner of this will be my highest ranked lightweight.

I think the title of "realgm forum member jasen777's highest ranked lightweight" is worth roughly equal to a ufc belt these days. So that's actually good to know.

How's she match up against Cyborg?

Adds as many PPV buys as the belt they'll be fighting for.

I have no problem with the fight itself.

Mike Winklejohn on mmahour, he won't even commit to Holm fighting Cyborg even if Holm wins the belt. Saying Holm will probably go back down to fight Nunes/Rousey.

Nobody wants to fight Cyborg.

Seems more likely Holm just doesn't want to stay at 145, which begs the question as to why she is even fighting for a belt there. I have a hard time thinking someone who wasn't afraid of pre-loss Rousey is not quaking in fear of anyone.

I'm not saying she's quaking in fear, but Ronda and Cyborg are two different beasts. You can tap to Ronda. You can't really tap to Cyborg unless she's already brought the thunder.

Speaking of WMMA, did everyone see that Sarah McMann fight last week? The power in her hands was nuts. She threw hard and in combination. That, with her wrestling, her ridiculous strength (that physique...wtf???), work ethic, and mental game...it's exciting. And she's ranked, like, 8th. It speaks to the fact that at least one division in WMMA has serious depth and a lot of head-to-heads where two killers are getting into the cage.

I am not an apologist for WMMA, I think a lot is crap at this point (Paige), but that division is now superior in excitement to at least a couple men's.

Sara McMann might have been the most elite prospect WMMA has ever seen. She looked like a future champion with her wrestling and power in her hands, and for whatever reason, she just hasn't been able to put it all together. Hopefully she's just a late bloomer and we start to see shades of the promise. She could easily be a title contender if she can put it all together.

I have heard a lot of interviews with her recently, she is really eflective on her losses, where she can improve, and is ever-increasing her mental prep. All the right things. She is such a competitor. And the work ethic!? Look at those glutes and the arms/shoulders. WTF???

I don't actually recall seeing the power in her hands previously. I thought we were going to get a Sean Sherk situation ...some muscle-bound wrestler who, yeah, has power and trains MT all the time, but is so tight and lacking in fluidity that they will never touch anyone ever. That was not the case. And women bang in the pocket in a way that dudes never do, so even being tight and MT-y isn't the worst.

She did knock down Tate, and Rousey before the Holm fight said the McMann fight was the one she took the most damage (though that was probably just to discount Tate).

Maybe McMann is good now or maybe she just beat up someone's mom in her last fight.

I watched the fight. She did look better.

End of the day though, she's 36 and has a few okay wins (Eye and Davis) but has lost to and been finished by the top 10 fighters she's fought.

It'd be cool if she turned out to be good because she speaks out against the ufc and has the pedigree to make the top of the division interesting.

I think we agree. My overall point is to the quality of the division, if someone as pedigreed and dedicated as her is barely in the mix.

36 means another 3-4 years, I think. Plenty of time to make a run. And she is one of those veterans of competition who will have gained insight from all her experience.

She's rarely been beaten to the head, she's a spartan in lifestyle. I don't think 36 means the wheels are about to fall off. Vet savvy without athletics is a problem, and vise versa. But there is a window where they overlap and I feel like Sara could be in the midst of it.

One thing that's interesting to me is that early in her career before her Rousey fight, bjjscout did a video of her basically arguing that Ronda would submit her if it went to the ground due to some bad habits McMann has with her posture. One of his main points was how she isn't on her toes when on top which gives her the ability to exhibit the guard passing pressure that we normally see from wrestlers, or else posture more quickly when threatened with strikes/submissions from the bottom. That was years ago, but we still see the same stuff from her. She was taking a good amount of punches/elbows from Alexis Davis in that first round from what I can recall, while being on top. I think she still falls into some of those bad habits which I would have expected her frankly to have cleaned up by now.

I'm guessing she was offered to fight for a belt because she's one of the more marketable WMMA fighters with some name value and still talented. An ex-champ fighting for her 2nd belt is sellable, even though it may not be in her plans to stick around.

At 155? I don't think it does anything for him. He'd just be another step away from the real prize which is Conor and the belt.
