the lesson here is that having a first name for a last name guarantees you'll be hated.

I wonder if anyone would have said anything about the 90's knicks, pacers or rockets front court player's dead dad and not expect to get their ass whooped. george karl better be thanking his god for safe spaces. imagine talking **** bout oak, mason, the Davis's boys or carl herrera's dead parent?

Come to his defense for what? Melo is a grown man.

While the fact that Melo's dad is dead is obviously sad and rightly the kind of thing that should make such talk off limits my focus was on the racist undertone. I think it was very clear what he meant by talking about them having money and not having fathers. It was very clear to me that you had a racist pig playing on a stereotype that his bigoted mind can't get around. I think the real problem is that George Karl has a planation owner's mindset but he was only ever an overseer and the slaves are of way more value. He should have coached at Dartmouth or somewhere where his biases wouldn't have inhibited his ability to do his job correctly.

oh i totally know what karl meant, he shouldn't have said it and it could've been worded differently .. but he chose those words so this backlash is rightfully deserved.

I actually took some time to read up on Carmelo's father. I knew he was Puerto Rican but didn't know he was a young lord and an activist. He died when he was 2. Some say liver failure. Wiki says he died of cancer. Something Karl himself dealt with. Carmelo has been adamant about keeping his memory alive.

After doing some reading and checking out the above link it makes what Karl said even worse. I think Carmelo should absolutely say something. Wow man. That's actually pretty foul.

Especially when it doesn't seem like his father was a bad man or anything.. he just passed away..

Yet Karl tries to paint a picture like Melo's dad left him...

And given our likely draft position this year good scouting is essential.

melo taking the high road and in return teaching his son a valuable lesson would be a sweeter burn though.
