Always had SOME hope for him if somebody could find the right fit for him. He's a little limited schematically IMO so we'll see how this looks after the season stuff starts to happen BUT, and there a couple buts, if he can get back to 100% AND the immaturity stuff is no longer an issue, I think this could be a half decent move doing it now.

Rams QB Jared Goff was with the team during today's walk-through, but he remains in concussion protocol and he remains day-to-day. Rams would like to make a decision by Thursday on whether or not he can start. If he can't go, they would consider Sean Mannion. Case Keenum is a free agent at season's end, and the Rams would like to see what they have in Mannion, a third-round pick in 2015.

The #49ers are promoting WR DeAndre Smelter to the active roster, per his agent.

They also added WR DiAndre Campbell to the practice squad. He was released by the 49ers in August.

Are they shutting down players early because of the record?

If they were in playoff contention, could a lot of these players play with those injuries?

Ward will be eligible for contract extension in the offseason but should they give him one? This is the second fracture in 3 years. The foot and now collarbone. I would go with a 5th year option instead. And I would strongly consider moving him to FS. He's played well at CB but we will need him more at S. Bethea should be/will be cut, and I would also let Reid walk, or keep Reid but move him to SS. We have plenty of depth at CB.

Carlos Hyde - RB - 49ers

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Carlos Hyde suffered a torn MCL Saturday against the Rams and is done for the season.

The 49ers seemed optimistic after the game, but it was always likely Hyde was done for the year. It is a disappointing end to a season in which Hyde was the only consistently effective weapon in San Francisco's offense, especially since Hyde was just 12 yards from his first 1,000-yard season. He still managed career-highs in rushing yards (988), receiving yards (163) and touchdowns (9), and this injury is unlikely to affect his availability for the offseason program. If the offense improves around him, Hyde will be back as a high-end RB2 for his contract year. With Hyde out, Shaun Draughn should lead a committee with DuJuan Harris in the season finale against the Seahawks.

I don't know if he gets beat up more, he may not be worth a big extension.

Maybe just as well he didn't get the 1000 yards. That might make it a little cheaper to resign him.

Plus who knows they might draft another RB high.

The thing is, high-use backs are not extended. If DeMarco Murray isn't extended by the Cowboys after the huge season he had a couple of years ago, no RB is a safe bet for a big extension.

Seems the league is more about giving big extensions to WRs, QBs, OLs, DLs, LBs and CBs, not RBs.

Yea I wouldn't give Hyde more than 2 year maybe 3 year extension. We have him for one more year, so adding 3 years is good for now considering his style and injury history. Luckily the MCL tear will not need surgery.
