It's a damn shame Dragic has been rotting on meh teams most his career.
Him & Lin are more similar than people think.

He's approaching 30 and I highly doubt the Knicks or any other NBA franchise will give him a max deal. That being said, his cap hold is 22 million next year. An extension making $10 million per year for 3 years max would still leave us with about $20 million to spend.
Rose becoming a free agent won't be the worse thing but we will have to renounce him so his cap hold doesn't count against the cap, and we can sign other players. Renouncing him means losing Rose's bird rights tho
Who's going to replace his production?
Some free agents PGs are Curry (not leaving GS), Paul (old), Lowry (okay), Holiday (injury prone), Teague (sign me up), Hill (okay)
There are capable free agents but with the cap set to explode, I see most of them going back to their respective teams for longer deals.
The question is what's the alternative to not extending Rose at a reasonable contract?
Rose is not accepting $10M

He's not gonna make less than Noah, that's pretty clear to me
But he might not demand a full max
Hopefully!
He might allow us to resign him and Jennings and have a little left over depending
Though holiday is a FA too this summer I think

Yea, I'm not sure Rose warrants the full MAX on the open market, but I don't think he's taking less than he's making now, especially with the way he was talking about money a few summers ago.
I think we could probably keep him for around $25M, but I don't know if we should.

A small market team will offer him max contract if they have the space.

They need to stick to plan A and let him ride out the season. They would still have the option of outbidding anyone if they wanted to.

Since we're pretty much locked in on the lineup we have for the next three years, I'd tell Rose he could have the max for three years or he could have security, but he can't have both.

That's the right way to go. Lock him up that aligns with Noah's contract.
No superstar is leaving after this new CBA.

Re: Knicks not ruling out DRose extension later in the season
I haven't looked back in this thread to see if this was answered but does Rose qualify for the super max? I don't think so since he was traded to us this season right?
It depends of course how he finishes the season but if he can consistently stay at this level I would have no problem giving him a 4 year 85-90 mil deal this off season. He has shown the ability to morph his game from the past into a more body friendly style while still being efficient. I would still throw in a 2 year opt out just in case though. With the new CBA I don't see any of the top players leaving their teams now so we should not let Rose leave either. I would love for once if the Knicks keep most of the guys on the team now for over 3 years together to build something.

3 years/$75M is fair.

I would do that in a heart beat but I feel like he will ask for an extra year for security. He would be 32 at that point and might have another good contract left after.

Then f*ck him. He shouldn't be getting more than 3 years.

Perfect. Lets just bring another 2nd rate PG in next year. Maybe Jose Calderon is available to come back......
Sometimes you have to make concessions and if it is for 4 instead of 3 then so be it. The best course of action is bringing Rose and Jennings back to solidify the PG position for a few years and hope be can find some talent in the draft with the 3 picks this year. Outside of maybe trading Lance Thomas I hope the Knicks don't go for another reshuffle next season. Let these guys build chemistry and build on from this year. That means bringing Justin Holiday back as well hopefully on a team friendly deal.

No you don't. Not if the market doesn't dictate it.
He loves playing in a big city. Basically said so himself. I dare him to go to a small market if it comes to that, and I question if anyone is giving Rose 4 guaranteed years.

I wouldn't be opposed to getting him, but the most he would give us is the same as Rose gives us now, just don't call him a leader, cause he ain't
dragic is a leader
I'm not arguing whether or not he's better, because it's more or less a wash between the two, switching them out wouldn't be that big of a difference. Maybe we win one or two more games due to Dragic being a better finisher and 3pt shooter, but then again Rose has the ability to lock down on D (when he wants, it just rarely happens) which Dragic doesn't, so maybe we lose a game or two to that.
What I am arguing is you said he's a leader, but I don't see any evidence of that
Dragic is a drastically better 3 point shooter at 42% compared to rose at 25%. That makes a big difference in court geometry.

Well if market is going to dictate it then what Conley, DeRozan and Lillard then we should probably expect a 4 year 24-26 mil contract which is pretty much what they all got last season. I don't think he wants to leave here and I don't think the Knicks will want him to leave so a 20 mil for 4 years is not an unreasonable deal considering in 3 years that will be chump change.

Unless Rose makes an All-Star team this year, his comps are not Conley, Lillard and Derozan.
Even so, he would still be getting his $25M/yr. He just shouldn't be getting 4 guaranteed years with his injury history. If he wants more years, then he should be taking less money.
If we extend him, we can only do so for 3 years anyway. If we want to keep him, I imagine that is the route we will pursue.

You do know Conley has never made the all star team right? Rose actually has been playing like an all star this season and could still make the team.
It is not like Rose is 32 and looking for his last big contract this off season. He just turned 28 and the knees have not been an issue so far this season. Now if that changes as the season moves along then yes the Knicks will have some leverage there but if he makes it through 70 games with no problems then you have to assume he has put it past him.

Rose is like the 8th best guard in the east and an injury risk at that. He doesn't get to make franchise player demands
