Re: Marcus Smart
At some point, especially as far as team identity, giving Smart the starting nod and trading IT could make sense. Then we just have to hope we're in a position to draft one of the wings or Giles as the BPA with the BKN pick.
IT for Okafor, if we got some other asset, or got Rudy Gay in a separate trade - say, IT to PHI, Okafor to BOS, pick back to SAC, Zeller/Jerebko to SAC -
Smart/Rozier/Jackson
Bradley/Brown/Green
Gay/Crowder/Young
Horford/Olynyk/Mickey
Amir/Okafor
That's actually a much better, cleaner team - cheaper, more scoring from wing, from low post - better ball movement. We have flexibility to add Hayward, or keep Gay, or use the space on something else.

No. Just no.

Re: Marcus Smart
I think it's safe to say that Smart is invaluable but probably not who would replace IT if he was traded, left on his own, and we didn't draft a PG with BK17. That person is Rozier. He has shown the ability to get to the rim and finish, he can shoot 3s, he is capable (though needs improvement which reps would hopefully bring) of running the offense and making others better. Even defensively Rozier more than holds his own. He still needs work with switching but again, reps will help. Smart is a 6th man and I don't see him starting for us. I like him in that role and he can help us win.

Smart gets more developmental reps on a winning-ish team, so that we extend him next fall at a discount instead of paying IT an absurd amount of money a year later - we lean on Bradley's improved shot making with his dribble a little more - Gay is still a gonzo scorer, apart from his flaws - Horford facilitates - you keep up the pick and rolls, the little hand-offs and actions -
And look how much better that second unit is - Rozier and Brown get more time, Crowder is the vet leader - Okafor scores in bunches and is in instant sixth-man contender while working into form on D.
It's one step backwards - maybe - to take two forward in the long term.
You're all so damn reactive - Rudy Gay was being coveted as a target a couple of years back, with the idea we'd get him and Kevin Love or Marc Gasol - IT was only on the radar of a few of us when he was coming off the bench in Phoenix - and Okafor doesn't get any consideration for being a young player looking bad in a bad situation, he's just a lost cause.

No, it makes no sense at all.

Re: Marcus Smart
IT's popular and talented and otherworldly on offense, like a middle-class man's Iverson. His offensive efficiency is insane. He's the engine of our offense. He's also undersized and limited on defense, even if he puts in a ton of effort. And it could just be old-NBA conventional wisdom, but I don't think any of us believe deep down he's a long-term answer, or want to pay him 20-25 million a year.

IT2 is not the answer nor is Smart...that why we need the Nets pick to be #1 to get Fultz

OT, because the Bucks fans won't read this thread - one of them just suggested Jabari and Monroe for Bradley and Crowder - do we not do that one a thousand times? That's a sell-high/buy-low straight from f*cking heaven.

Re: Marcus Smart
Before today, Smart's been shooting 37.5% from left corner three and 46.7% from right corner three, per nbaminer.com. That he made the go-ahead three earlier wasn't much of a surprise. Stay away from the ATB3s.

Re: Marcus Smart
He sure yaps a lot lol. Perfect guy to get mic'd up on the team. Rozier wasn't a happy camper on that bench.

Love that. Positive reinforcement is what's up in sports, it rubs off when you're always building your teammates up. The negative BS serves no purpose.

Marcus is a leader. As his NBA career matures that will be key paired with his skills. I want him long term in Boston.

Re: Marcus Smart
Good to see Smart playing almost exclusively at the one position recently (IT can play offball anyway). Get him to the post more often whenever he's on the floor (at least in his 1st half stint). There are not a lot of PGs that can handle him on the blocks. Utilize his strength as a passer and a bully down low. It eliminates possessions where he takes above-the-break 3s. Also, Cs aren't playing 4-on-5 on offense if Smart's getting guarded in the post.

It's not his game. He has a Steph Curry mindset with a defensive ends body.

I truly believe he can be the start PG on a championship caliber team, no doubt about it. The money aspect is what it is; everyone's salary looks inflated these days when they first come out. Just remember Avery Bradley's deal that so many were crying about.
What we need is rebounding and another go to scorer to help IT shoulder the load. We don't need to replace him.

However, with his increased willingness to try and get in the lane this year (if that continues), Im starting to see shades of Andre Miller in his offensive game. I think if he doesn't figure out his shooting, his peak is Andre Miller with elite defense.
If he ever becomes Andre Miller offensively we got something really good.

The only problem is Crowder and Bradley are better than Jabari and Monroe.
