Bench needs to get blown up. Sure, I would play Smith a little more in the second half but should Brooks go back to McClellan again? Burke at the 2 instead of the 1? Non-shooting Sato at the 1? Thornton never playing again unless he has to? We needed this game and unfortunately, Brooks had to overplay the starters to win.
Agreed he did NEED this game, but at least for the Pacers I don't see why he doesn't try changing it up. What is there to lose? Play Tomas and Sheldon. Thornton's sneaky putbacks help at times so he might as well leave him part of the rotation here and there. Perhaps playing at home for the next two games can instill some confidence in their games? I just don't know how it could get much worse from a production standpoint with Tomas and Sheldon... The alternative is to keep on keepin on with WTF and OMG.
I'm ok with Sheldon and Sato but who is going to score in that duo. That's why think Burke is ok at the 2 but you should never have him handle the ball. But if you are Brooks, you are saying to yourself, should I start two shi-tty tall guys in the backcourt or two shi-tty small and slow guys? Not much of an option. He obviously has no patience for young guys like Sheldon and Oubre, who are consistently making mistakes on D. The only way they can get better is through experience.
