Congrats to DD on building a great team. I am going to keep this brief as people are familiar with both teams. I believe defensively I can slow down his incredible back court by packing the paint. I will let him shoot from the perimeter as no one on his squad is what I would consider an elite shooter. This will make it very difficult for Magic to penetrate or for MJ to get to the rim. This will allow Dirk/Shaq to outplay Magic/MJ and carry me to victory.
Quick points:
1. Shaq averaged 28/12 against Sabonis in the playoffs. Sabonis was never able to slow down Shaq.
2. If Magic/MJ don't drastically out play Dirk/Shaq, I have much better secondary weapons and depth. Peja in particular as 3rd guy should have big series against Detlef.
3. Coleman will struggle guarding Dirk.

BdeRegt has no answer for Magic or Jordan. I know he's stating that he'll pack the paint because I lack elite shooting. I may not have a Ray Allen or Steph Curry type shooter on this team but I have more than capable 3 point shooting.
Latrell Sprewell - 35.4% on 5.2 attempts
Magic Johnson - 38.4% on 3.5 attempts
Detlef Schrempf - 51.4% on 2.2 attempts
Mark Jackson - 43% on 1.8 attempts
Arvydas Sabonis - 37% on 1.9 attempts
Congrats BdeRegt on getting here.
So basically, I'm okay if he wants to leave guys open. There is only 1 good defender on his team and that's Shaq. Not sure how he'll be able to stop Jordan or Magic from doing whatever they want. If his plan is to stop penetration, that's fine. Both those guys can beat him from the perimeter or the post. I'm going to start Deltef in this game and give him more mins at the 4. We're not going to shut down Dirk but Detlef is a smart defender and should be able to keep up with him on the perimeter. Detlef will also force Dirk out of the paint. When Coleman is in, he may not be able to stop Dirk but Dirk has no answer for him on the other end.
On the defensive end, besides Dirk, I feel pretty good about limiting his players. Jordan and Sprewell at the wings should cause havoc on the defensive end. Shaq will get his but I think a combo of Sabonis and Drummond who are good post defenders should at least be able to limit the damage.
Overall, I just I have more answers on both the offensive and defensive ends then he does and believe I should be able to win this series.

i think my vote goes to BdeRegt, although it's pretty tough. Neither team has a particularly good answer to the other team's two stars, but i think Sabonis guarding Shaq is kind of like a poodle guarding a pitbull. I also like BdeRegt's bench better and Rip Hamilton.

Don't mind you voting against me but I'm always curious at comments like "Sabonis guarding Shaq is kind of like a poodle guarding a pitbull"
Are you calling Sabonis soft or claiming that Shaq is just too big for him?
Sabonis was a very good defender in the league especially his post defense because of his size. The guy was 7'3 and 300 pounds.

shawn bradley was big too. of the big men i'd let guard shaq, AS isn't in my top tier.

I'm not trying to turn this into an argument. Still a very curious comment. Shawn Bradley is a pretty bad comparison. Bradley was tall but he weighed like 230 pounds. Of course he couldn't handle Shaq. Shaq was 7'1 and weighed about 320. I have no problem with your vote. I also I agree, my 1st choice wouldn't be Sabonis to guard Shaq. We had limited options in this draft

Anyway, I'm just glad you voted.

I actually like detlef trying to deal with dirk and sabonis is at least big enough to challenge shaq. Dont get me wrong DD gets destroyed in the frontcourt but i think he does even more damage to bderegts backcourt. I think Jordan in particular carries DD in a hardfought series.

It's going to be determined by the killer instincts on both teams... MJ vs Dirk. MJ's is the greatest of all-time in basketball. And that's what got to bring Dimes the ship.

I mean if you look at the numbers I pointed out, Shaq and Sabonis faced each other a lot and Shaq never struggled. Shaq in both the regular season and playoffs averaged 28/12 while Sabonis had 10/7. Shaq won 13 of 18 games against Sabonis in the playoffs. If you go back and watch a lot of those Blazers/Lakers battles in the playoffs, the biggest part of those series was that Shaq could just dominate Sabonis. I don't think it is crazy to say Sabonis would struggle guarding Shaq since we have actual games to prove that he did. A more interesting conversation might be how would pre-NBA peak Sabonis have done against Shaq. I still think he would struggle but it would have been better battles.

I never said Sabonis would stop him. My only comment was Sabonis and Drummond provide big bodies to at least make it challenging.
My reply to Dantley was regarding the whole Poodle vs Pitbull comment or whatever it was.
Not too many people could stop Shaq just as not too many could stop Jordan. Your hope is to make it hard on them.
Edit: also since you posted it, the head 2 head record is pretty pointless for this and also the head 2 head stats are pointless as well. We know who the better player is. Shaq is one the greatest centers of all time. Those teams ran their offense through Shaq. Sabonis averaging 10 and 7 against Shaq doesn't really matter. He wasn't asked to carry the load offensively. In the year chosen, I think Sabonis averaged about just over 9 FGAs. He's not going to have some staggering offensive numbers. I do know that your plan is to pack the paint. What does Shaq do defensively when Sabonis steps out to the 3 point line? Just let him shoot? We'll take that. I don't have answers to shut down Dirk and Shaq but I believe I have guys that will make it challenging for them whereas I don't see anyone on your roster stopping Magic and Jordan.

In a match between 4 of the greatest offensive players of all time I gotta go with my top 2 offensive players. I see Magic's and MJ's matchups more favorable than Dirk and Shaq's.

Re: Fantasy Restricted Auction Game Championship: BdeRegt vs DroppinDimes
This is quite a matchup, with arguably the best offensive weapons ever at their respective positions facing off (MJ & Magic vs. Shaq & Dirk). Neither team has much of a defensive answer for the other's main guys either, so it's hard to separate those four.
I think this comes down to two things. First off all, I prefer BdeRegt's perimeter group over DD's frontcourt. Second, Shaq's ability to protect the rim will matter more than MJ's perimeter defense, especially since both he and Magic will want to attack the rim. There's only so much you can do as an individual wing defender in this kind of setting, and in any case BdeRegt's main threat comes from his frontcourt. A dominant paint defender like Shaq will have more impact here IMO.

Re: Fantasy Restricted Auction Game Championship: BdeRegt vs DroppinDimes
Both pairs of stars are impressive, yet imperfect. Mike and Magic are both best with the ball in their hands. Shaq and Dirk have some defensive issues. But in the end Dimes' answer of Sabonis/Dre and Schremph is a bit better.

Re: Fantasy Restricted Auction Game Championship: BdeRegt vs DroppinDimes
This is tough. I think both teams have significant advantages where their main talent lies. I don't see a feasible solution to stopping Magic/MJ for BdeRegt and vice-versa for DroppinDimes with Dirk/Shaq. So I guess what's going to draw the line for me is the benches. At the end of the day, I guess I just prefer Davis/Mashburn/Cousins over Jackson/Sprewell/Drummond. And honestly, it's probably only by a hair. Both teams are stacked so kudos to you guys.

Re: Fantasy Restricted Auction Game Championship: BdeRegt vs DroppinDimes
For what it's worth, my vote was going to go to DD. It's a battle of the best back-court in the game with Jordan and Johnson vs. the best front-court in the game with Dirk/Shaq. Neither are going to be stopped, but I have more faith in DD's front-count being a little bit more effective defensively against bd's front-court compared to bd's back-court against DD's back-court defensively. Also, Jordan is the GOAT so having him definitely helps and favors DD.
Nonetheless, this is definitely a close match-up, and both of you did a great job. Congrats to DD on winning the game, well deserved. That Jordan/Johnson duo was just too nasty. I would have loved to get either, but having Thomas already on my team the first day, it limited me to get either of them due to chemistry/fit issues.
