GT: Trailblazers vs. Spurs

Post#1 » by Nolan » Fri Dec 30, 2016 2:49 pm

When: 6:30 PM MT Dec 30th 2016
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio TX

Last game of 2016 for us so lets finish off the year with a win!

As it always is with the Blazers our focus in this one should be on Lillard and CJ. We have to slow them in transition and make every shot they take a tough one.

LMA and Gasol both also need to have good games. The Blazers are weak in the paint and we have to capitalize on that.

Go Spurs!!

I'll be interested to see what sorts of backcourt defenses Pop runs on the backcourt-scoring-heavy Blazers. Harkless could have a big game if he pulls Leonard off to help with Lillard and McCollum. Several of our losses have come against teams with big backcourt scoring.

They're so bad defensively. I think SA wins by 15 and Kawhi has a huge game.
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

We really don't have the personnel to attack them one on one properly, we're going to have to play some great help defense and our rotations off the ball have to be clean. No hesitations on switches, no poor reads just quick and clean switches.

I also feel like we're going to see a lot of Mills tonight. He can at least stay in front of CJ or Dame.

14 turnovers at the half. Pathetic performance. These guys are supposed to be professionals and they look like they don't care half the time.

Green is 5-7 from three and looking fired up which is good. Still, he had another one of his drives where he looks to be in no man's land and just through it right to the defender because he was too scared to put up a runner or layup.

And yes, Aldridge may be being doubled a lot but if you are a star you not only work through double teams but you demand the ball in other positions, especially since you have scored like 70 points at 70% in the last two games.

Another weak 1H followed by another strong 2nd. Great for wins in December, but we've got to figure this thing out within the next couple of months. I know we're short-handed, but this is a home game against a losing team.

It's great to see Danny doing it tonight, though.

What the hell is going on with LMA. Only 2 field goal attempts in 20 minutes? No free throw attempts? Is he psyched out by playing Portland?

Portland is totally focusing their defense on him, blitzing and doubling him every possession. He has to do a better job passing the ball when he gets doubled though. Too many TOs today.

Having Leonard out makes it easier for opposing defenses to focus in on our Leonardless #1 option. Plus, the bad guys know LMA's game pretty well.

20-point lead, under 5 to go. Put this one in the vault.

Simmons with 19pts, 3rb, 2 assist, 2 blocks. Really solid bench player for us now.

Danny Green 6-8 3pt but 3 bad turnovers because he can't do anything on offense other than shoot.

Manu and Juice had a really solid game. DG was hot from deep, but when he is asked to do more, we know what happens. Just stick with the 3 and D fellow.

Kyle Anderson is such a good /smart defender, but he is so frustrating to watch offensively. 3 years with Chip and still can't hit an open 3. There's no future for him in SA if he can't shoot from deep decently.
