Cody Garbrandt went from fighting low-level opponents to champ, and he's a mang, so it's tougher competition against a deeper pool.

But Nunes is fresh on the mind and demolished the best her division had to offer, so she warrants being on the list over the likes of Mickey Gall fo sho.

Pretty good rule of thumb: if a guy is possibly Fighter of the Year, he's clearly Breakthrough Fighter of the Year.

What if there is two that match that description (Nunes)

Im going with Cody though, because Beating Cruz is the bigger fish between he and Rousey.

Went with Nunes dispatching the tough Tate and Rousey all in one year is an amazing accomplishment. Tate is notoriously tough and to finish her in the first round is unheard of.. and to top it off by destroying Rousey in 48seconds is amazing.

It really is.
If it had been pre-Holmes Ronda I think I would have went with her, but Cody absolutely picking apart Dom, who has dominated that division, made me go with him.
Tough call between the two, I'd really consider making it a tie. They both deserve it.

Decisioning the Decisionator was something thought to be impossible. And Cody did it with style. That's the most impressive win of the year by a mile.

Went with Nunes. Winning the championship against Tate and destroying a "Comeback" Ronda for her first defense is an amazing achievment. Let's also not forget she beat a pretty legit Valentina Shevchenko earlier in the year as well to set up a title shot.

He really did show a lot of poise in not pouncing on Dom in that 4th round when he knocked him down 4x. Made sure he stuck with the game plan and kept the fighting standing similar to the way Conor fought Diaz the second time.
