Isiah just played down the Melo Horny incident saying players caliber of Melo have way more leeway on offense, they need to buy in with coach on D, and said since he knows Horny personally well he is a defensive minded coach
, who will put defense first but NBA is offense first atm

B: Melo | FVV | Rozier
B: J. Green | Donte | N. Clifford
B: Herb | K. Oubre | B. Hield
B: Zion | G. Yabusele | D. Jones Jr
B: KP | J. Huff

So basically to get the best out of Melo we need Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Demarcus Cousins.
Got it. Should be anyday now that Phil can flip this roster for all of them.

If you move Melo off the ball and into catch and shoot situation (where Melo is still very good, and is willing to do i.e Team USA) you either need some set plays to get some good looks (which we never run) or you need a playmaker on the court (which we don't have, we have Rose who legit might have the worst vision of any 'pg' in the league).
Now melo is not a triple threat anymore, and doesn't command a double team unless he is hot, hence the results have not been as good working through Melo solely.
Stop acting like Melo isolating is stopping up from being a good team. We need a starting pg, who can create for others off the bounce badly. And maybe stop playing 4 on 5 on offense will help.
But the obviously the real problem is defensively. No Anchor in the middle to protect the rim like last year, we instead have caged animal. Everyone therefore over helps on the breakdown (with the initial perimeter defense weak af) and we get lost. Definitely can get on Melo for not leading by example. Last year he was locked in, this year nope. Some of it is definitely bad match ups on small guards, but he needs to step up the focus and intensity big time.
while i agree with all this, it's getting late in the game. when are we gonna put all the pieces we need ?
Oh i think its too late now. There going to have to turn things around with what they have, squeeze into the playoffs, then convince CP3 to come in the off season. Don't see that happening. I think the bucks murder us the next two games. Tank starts to roll, and then trade Melo in 2017 off season.

way too much back and forth about Melo. He's really not worth all the fuss, and that's the problem. The Knicks need to pivot hard. Put KP in the best system for his talents and build around that system. Hornacek may or may not be that coach for KP, I really haven't seen enough, but part of that is because of the distraction of aging vets that may be freelancing on both ends of the court. If they are, start moving these guys out, including Melo, because our goal shouldn't be as short term as getting to the playoffs this year.

Re: Magic PG: So Let Me Get This Straight...
Nearly everywhere I've been today folks were talking about that play of Melo blowing off the play Hornacek wanted. With one person that I respect their b-ball knowledge I told him "had he made the shot, everything would have been fine". They agreed for the most part.
The part that is bad about it is...and I see the discussion about Melo's IQ, and no, I don't think he's a smart basketball player, skilled absolutely, not smart. Melo is actually on the dunce side on the basketball court. If his brain matched his skillset, he'd certainly use his variety of ways to produce points on the court in a much easier way, and likely would have been an NBA champion by now somewhere. Every shot he takes seems to be one he has to work hard to get off. the harder the shot, the tougher the cover, the more he wants to shoot that shot.
At least JR was honest when he said he'd rather have a contested shot than an open one.....
Melo is heck of an offensive talent for sure, can do many things on and off the ball, and has shown at times he can be a capable defender, playmaker, etc....and yes, he'll certainly be in the HOF.
But he'll be lumped into the group of those guys that wont be talked about so much once they retire, and no he wont be getting his jersey retired in the MSG rafters. That really makes no sense to even consider at this point.

"I'd rather take a contested shot than an open shot any day," he said. "It's kind of boring when you get open shots. It's more pressure because when you get a wide-open shot everyone is expecting you to make it."

Melo has the heart of a mouse, not a champion. He could never lead a team to glory. He thinks he's an alpha, but he is just a chucker with a false sense of entitlement
So nobody ever had to eat a single word spoken in criticism about Melo because some of us have always been right that you cannot build a team around Melo. The guy can be added to a team with other alphas if he would fall into line, but any team that is constructed around this diva is dooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeedddddddddd to failure
And enough of us have been right about this all along
Bon Appetit!
Your back again? Can I repsond or are you going to request for moderator intervention?
The fact is you actually sat there and took it this year after you went on another tirade when Melo played poorly, only to sit quietly and not say a peep as he went god mode against ATL. I don't even need to address past years where he alone came to play every night as the roster around him withered and died.
There are folks who want to see a rebuild because that's what they feel is best for the Knicks. Even then, they support the W's and cope with the losses.
Then there's folks like you. Who only show up after losses to thump your chest about how much Melo sucks.
Like I've been saying, there are fans ready for a rebuild. Then there are fans like you and a few others who are strictly here for Melo failure.
I'm sorry you don't live in a world where putting a scrappy roster around a top player will get you far. I'm sorry you don't have the guts to take the good times with the bad. I'm sorry your definition of fandom is finding a scapegoat.
To clarify, I'm not sorry for you. Im sorry for myself and others that have to deal with you and your soapbox squadron instead of being able to talk hoops on a forum with fellow miserable Knicks fans.
GOD MODE --- again can't take you serious. News flash only mode Melo is in is WASHED UP MODE.
Nobody's talking to you.

Pringles also wanted to force him to be a point forward while making him a catch & shoot player sticking him in the corner.
Melo has played fast tempo dating back to his days in Denver and he actually excelled at it.
What Pringles and the GM should've done was get players that accommodated to Melo's strengths which could've put Melo somewhat in the role Harden has now with the Rockets.
That's when the team has been successful this season, when his points come off catch and shoot attempts.
And that's because he's declined to the point in his career where catch & shooting is his best option.
6 years ago that's not the case.
I mean seriously do I have to sit down & explain that Melo from 6 years ago was a lot more talented than Melo this season?
Apparently you do.

If only Kyle had set that damn screen! Only then would Knicks Twitter not have gone off.

The play didn't call for a Kyle pick. That's why he didn't set it. The ball was supposed to be passed around, but it stopped.

You've been around here long enough to know how provocative Melo is on this forum.
First you say way too much talk about Melo and then you end by saying, if he has to then he has to go. Well, there's a whole bunch of other members here who want to debate that notion.
So, welcome to the club. At least you're on the right team!

I'm not sure what the point of this is? That melo turned down a screen ? If we had CP3 for example, the ball would in his hands, not Melos, so it's a moot point.

Pretty much. I rarely touch the Melo topic anymore because it was tired 2 or 3 years ago, and we're still arguing over the same things.
Very talented player, but doesn't know the how and when to use his gifts in the most efficient manner and/or best manner for the team. Can score in a variety ways that most players can't, but I can't say he's the best scorer when there have been others who produce more points more efficiently. Yes, not the brightest or shows the greatest mental toughness. I don't even dislike Melo. I can dig when he's putting in work, but more often than not I'm shaking my head at his play the way I used to when Jamal Crawford was here, though Melo is a step or three above players like Crawford.
To be honest, I just never thought he was that good to deserve all the hype (and by this, I mean what people expected of him due to his scoring ability) and all the subsequent flak that came/comes with it when he eventually disappoints. And really, I can't say there was ever a time when I second guessed myself on him, either.

Isiah is a smarter basketball mind and a better player than Melo ever was. He is credible.
His downfall was that instead of trying to rebuild from scratch, he tried to flip expiring contracts and deals into talented young guys. What he underestimated was the mental problems and lack of motivation that these guys had. It wasn't a terrible strategy on paper. However, many feel that Dolan influenced this strategy. For a long time, the general consensus was that you can't rebuild in New York. I'm not defending Isiah as a coach or GM with the Knicks. I'm just saying that he has proven to have an eye for talent and is extremely smart basketball-wise. He struggled with understanding the fact that some players are simply not motivated.
