Does Brooklyn deserve another major league team?

Post#1 » by Abraham Lincoln » Thu Jul 12, 2007 5:24 am

This is an issue that hasn't really been discussed with baseball fans around the country and it's an interesting one to say the least. First off, New York already has 2 baseball teams and it wouldn't really be fair to have a third but Brooklyn was once a hardcore baseball town and putting a team back there would definitely spark old and new interest.

I think it's only right to the longtime Dodgers fans who got their team stolen from them and moved to Los Angeles. Now, the LA Dodgers will never move back to Brooklyn ever again but with the expansion Brooklyn(Brooklyn Nets in '09) and everything else, I think it would be right to have Brooklyn get an expansion baseball team or get one moved from somewhere else like Florida or Washington.

I was watching an HBO special on the Brooklyn Dodgers days today and this is how the thought got into my head. I'm not a Brooklyn fan or anything and actually hate the idea of the New Jersey Nets coming to New York but a baseball team in Brooklyn is a longtime coming. Besides, I don't think I'd be the only one to be delighted to see a modern day Ebbets Field back in Brooklyn.

they brought back a single A team i think about 5 years back but i watched part of that special too. got almost halfway through and taped the rest.

its a good idea if maybe the mets moved there but id be kind of against the idea of a city having 3 teams and i dont know of any team other than the florida teams you could consider moving.

They already got the Cyclones.

And most Brooklyn Dodger fans became Met fans or stayed with the Dodgers in LA.

I'd be in favor of a team in Brookyln only if the Mets moved out of New York. 2 teams in New York is enough.

Every city deserves a MLB team.

I know this but I mentioned Brooklyn because the team was so loved. It's not like the Expos who moved when nobody cared for years. People still loved the Dodgers.

Can they even afford one now. Three teams in New York will there even be a fan base for them?

i'm from BK. and basically we don't need another team in NY. NYM got all the old giant/dodger fans for the most part.

it's basically 60% NYY and 40% NYM fans. another team wouldn't really work.

having a single-A team there (cyclones) is a perfect spot for it though. (always sell outs).

the BK Nets are also going to be a great addition. and i'm sure people from BK will start liking the nets. unless IT turns NYK around...

It would have been cool if they built Citifield in Brooklyn. That would have been crazy.

They should've. Screw the wasteland that is Willets Point. Brooklyn baseball with the Ebbets Field on the outside would've be amazing.

Uh, no they don't. Look at what happened with DC. All that whining & crying they did 2 get a 3rd team & they don't sell out every game...Only a terrorist attack is an excuse for them not 2 sell out a game.

I couldn't agree more! My hometown/state never had an MLB team and I hated it growing up. I don't understand why we should give NY another team, when there are too many cities that still don't have one.

If we throw a team to Brooklyn, great. It had better be a team being moved though.
