Bad loss, just as the team needs to put some distance from the teams below them, they play terribly (again)

I hate to tell you but that is the standard system Joerger is running. He is well known before even coming to Sac to give that 3 as long as the paint is locked down. He eventually switches it up but too often this season it's too late.

The Kings are always going to be at the mercy of teams hitting their open 3's as long as they keep running this over help defense. The Kings got away with one last night because the offense went into hyper drive but I thought this was about D.

They defended just fine during that 19-0 run. I think some of our guys are pretty pathetic on defense i.e. Tolliver, BMac.

Sorry but the coach is about to come out in me. DMC yelling "you blew the game" to the refs as he exits the floor. Not to mention it's sad when our franchise player has to be restrained by the guys who just beat him. Anyhow, despite DMC's sentiment that the refs blew the game I'm pretty sure it was the lifeless team that got exposed for lack of intestinal fortitude on the glass, late close outs, and allowing the ball to constantly get in the middle of the floor for easy kick outs.
Where was the pulse for this team? Great teams...scratch that...even just good teams don't rely on external factors to find motivation. Good teams don't need the crowd. They know how to make plays even when their opponent is having a hot night. Also, I'm pretty sure the first unit blew the game because once those subs were made after the second units 19-0 run. The ball stuck as they focused in on trying to get DMC the ball, the energy plays and 50/50 balls went to the heat, and we had two guys (Barnes and DMC) throwing fits. This was a bad loss. Exposed our lack of composure.

Yes, and there were subtle changes strategically as well. Especially compared to the start of the game which is consistently where the Kings get in trouble this season. As the games go on they tend to do more switching, rely more on man to man, and play farther up into the middle of the floor rather than under the rim on help.

Agreed, but also have to "over help" or plug the gaps if you don't have the personnel to actually guard their yard. Our best on ball defenders are Lawson and Temple. Outside of that I don't trust really any guy on the roster to guard their yard night in and night out.

It also exposed how bad this team is when Cuz is off. I think they need to start using Koufos as a primary backup at C. Not just because the double C lineup is rarely working but because Koufos' screens alone are desperately needed off the bench. He got called on a bogus moving screen call but screens are the easiest way to open up the floor when teams play them defensively the way the Heat did.

Yep, that sounds about right.
Heck, I'm watching the post-game right now and Jerry pretty much echoed your opinion -- "they overhelp...to guard...no one." (referring to the gaps between the key and the paint).

Not to mention, KK's movement without the ball whether to screen as you alluded to or to cut for an easy high percentage shot fits well with that second unit. Also, to echo your point what got it done in that 19-0 run was that they had 4 of our better on ball defenders (Ty, Temple, AA, and Barnes eventually when he subbed for Tolliver) and they switched with temple, AA, and Barnes/Tolliver. I completely agree that we over help and at the NBA level you just can't do that. Early help early recovery so you can get out on shooters. However, we stay in that gap too long and guys in the league are just too good of shooters to give them any daylight ESPECIALLY when they got as hot as they did. Totally a coaching philosophy. We don't have the personnel so unless we want to trade for Greek the Freak and his 4 siblings otherwise we can't get out to shooters

I missed this game, so this loss must be on me. It looks like perhaps Cousins was gassed on this back to back night, and Collison fell off the map with Lawson back. I wonder if there's a problem there.
