Thx mate. I will focus on the organization stuff this time, hence only take one team with no capspace.

I think the most important thing will be free agency. If this runs smoothly with the expansion and FA sign good contracts, it will be a great game.

As you can see, players rarely get underpaid in real life, and this was what happened the last games (JR Smith and Deng 5mil per year, nearly all Rfas took the QO and so on).

So in free agency we will habe tiers again and talks with the agent, me. Plus I will state what the salary is that the players demand (JJ Redick for example will ask for at least 14mil per year which doesnt mean that he gets it, could be less or more).

If you guys have more ideas, lemme now.

Plus, how do you like a poll system for ranking at the end of the game after write-ups? Its much easier. I just dont want that participants have to do so much stuff outside of gming and keeping tje roster page up to date cuz it decreases the activity (hence, no color coding for roster pages and so on). We keep it very simple this time.

Draft picks are also more important this time because we follo real life rules. Some teams cant trade a lot of picks because of all the protections and we follow stepien rule this time, hence traded picks habe way more value (also because we only play with picks til 2021 which is also good cause it never happens that teams trade picks so far in the future, thats dangerous).

Can I make an argument against using tiers in Free Agency? If you have tiers, it takes away the opportunity for a team to pay a mid-level guy early. For your example, if JJ Redick wants $14M and prefers to stay in LA, it takes away the opportunity for say Milwaukee to come in early with $18M per year while the Clippers might be negotiating with other players. My idea would be that there is open negotiation and maybe a thread where at least 3 hours before a player signs, it is posted that the player is strongly considering an offer from an unnamed team and maybe an email to the original team seeing if they have interest in retaining by making a competitive offer. This idea would take a lot more work from the person running Free Agency I realize. I am happy to help run if needed or fine with tiers if want to keep it simple. I just feel tiers take away a lot of the strategy of going after 2nd tier players early while they maybe are getting ignored until superstars make their decision.

If we stick to real life rules, I don't think you will have guys being underpaid. Last couple games I played, the salary cap was shrunk so that is why people got small offers. There just wasn't money to go around like there should be.

I agree. No Tiers this time. It will be like bidding behind the scenes via e-mails. I will run Free Agency and will always inform players/teams.

Instead of Tiers, we will have Free Agency Days. Day 1-4 I would say. And then open bidding...

with the sign ups so far we would have 28 teams assigned. I hope we get at least 2 more participants. 3 or 4 would be perfect because then some of the guys that are willing to double could do so during the game if someone quits which I hope won't happen.

Participants:

1. Dan Verze (any team)
2. JR_SMITH_5 (NOP EXP OR TOR)
3. immartalone23 (MIN PHI IND 2nd team exp) - maybe double
4. dantley4prez (any team) - maybe double
5. DroppinDimes (BOS DEN SAC) - maybe double
6. MadNess (LAL HOU DEN 2nd team exp) - maybe double
7. BdeRegt (GSW BOS LAL) - maybe double
8. damecurry (MIL DEN GSW) - maybe double
9. Tony Snell (CLE OKC CHI) - maybe double
10. Blazer50 (BOS POR MIL)- maybe double
11. SimonFish (CHI, any team) - maybe double
12. Saul Goodman (PHI PHX DEN)
13. Derrick Noah (UTAH PHX NYK) - maybe double
14. ATL Boy (MIN BOS PHI)
15. Hopping4Wiggins (BOS MIN HOU)
16. Oden2 (POR HOU DAL)
17. Coxy (CLE NYK MIN)
18. NBADraft2003 (MIA TOR CHI)

I'll say I am happy to double to get this going. Seems like I am pretty much only one who wants Warriors. I'd love to do them and then don't care who the 2nd team I have is as any of them can be fun. Just hoping to get this started.

Hey all. I just signed up (as you can tell), but I have multiple years fantasy experience and this looks like a ton of fun! It's always nice to have a noob in the league. My top three are SA, LAC, and Detroit. Let me know if you need any info from me!

Hey! Any suggestions/tips? I am extremely excited to get started. I used to play Madden/NBA2K a ton, and pretty much only did Franchise mode/equivalent. This is the closest thing I could find to that sorta thing.

Oh goodness you're asking ME of all people for strategy... Yeah um.... I'd direct you over to guys like Madness, DerrickNoah, Hopping4Wiggins, Blazer50 and Damecurry for gameplay suggestions/tips.

But but just as a general guideline to follow. We'll have a rules section posted that will explain what's allowed and what's not. You pretty much just do trades, signings, waives/cuts to manage your team. We have playoffs, free agency and rankings. It's pretty simple! The most important things are communicating with your fellow gm's and having fun!

I'm heading to bed now.. thanks for signing up and ttyl.

It will be. Im doing this for 8 years or something now.
We need your email address. Once the game starts (tomorrow or saturday) you copy and paste the roster template and post it in the roster thread (there will be a thread soon) and then you can send other gms trade offers via e-mail! Of you have any questions just ask! Glad that you are on board!

   Hey Jr, at least your self-aware mate.

First off, the most important thing you can do if you want to have fun and especially succeed at this game is dig into the old threads of past GMATs and just look and read through them. This will help you understand rules and gameplay obviously, which is not too complicated but is distinctly different and somewhat more complex than the franchise modes of video games. But more importantly digging through the old games can help you get an idea of trade value and general perceptions. This is the 1st gmat since the new season has started though so values will be very different, but it's important to just get a feel of how the game flows.

Secondly, here's some general advice. You probably already have an idea of what you wanna do, what kind of team you want to build, as you requested specific teams I assume you have plans with them. Stick to them. Pick a direction and pursue it, my biggest flaw that I still fall into in these games is trying to change directions mid-stream. Star power is really prized in these games, it's really hard to get ahold of proven stars and most GMs are interested in either building a contender, or a full rebuild, not anything in between so middling players and solid vets are not valued as highly as good prospects and cap-space. Everyone's going for the big fish whether that's proven guys or high potential guys. Sometimes you can take advantage of this and get a bevy of assets for a quasi-star but you wanna be careful downgrading in this game. The general goal is to just make the best team you can, whether that's a win-now or future team and regardless of the style and personnel. Obviously that's subjective but such is the nature of the game...

Anyway if you wanna do well, send out lots of trade offers, be open to negotiating, follow along with the developments in the forum closely and make sure you understand things like the cap minutiae and FA (free agency) thoroughly. If you don't already know such things Larry Coon's cba Q&A is invaluable, as is basketballinsiders (the general source most of us use for salary information.) Stay organized and be ready to commit a fair bit of time. It's more than a little work but hopefully for you, like me, it'll be way more fun and you'll stick around (I stumbled into these over 2 years ago as a total novice NBA fan and I've played over a dozen since and sign up almost every time a new one comes along, have even run a few myself. They're quite enjoyable.)

Salary cap for season 17/18 100mil??? Makes it easier to determine max contracts, easier than 1ü2 mil cuz 25 percent means 25mil.

Mle 6 mil, mini mle 3mil, room mle 2.5mil.

Cool or better ideas?
