Talking Stick Resort Arena Visit

Post#1 » by arenafanatic » Sat Jan 7, 2017 11:55 pm

I will be taking a trip out West starting on Wednesday. I will be doing two reviews for my website while I am out there. One of them being Talking Stick Resort Arena (hell of a name).

I was looking for any suggestions on things to do in Phoenix?

See in or around the arena?

Places to eat?

Any info you can give would be awesome, I have never been to Phoenix. I will be at the game vs. the Jazz on the 16th.

Thanks!

I know pretty much zero about Phoenix, but when I visited a couple years back, we ate at Cooperstown, which is right next to the arena if I recall correctly. It was pretty dope. Might just be catered towards tourists though.

Welcome to the forums! Would love to see you post more. I was there recently. Where to eat depends largely on where you stay and if you have a car. The tram is nice now no matter where you stay as long as it is on the west side, but you might want to check out the tram routes to make sure you are close to one if you are not renting a car. It also depends on the type of food you like and if you'd want to go to a sports bar.

If you are a long time Suns fan, you should check out Majerle's, or even a short time Suns fan, just to see it. If I come up with much more, I will add to it. You may want to check out our food thread which is on the 2nd or 3rd page and if you bump it, and make a similar post you did here, you will likely get some more responses, but there are already things posted there. My brother went to some good places around the arena when he visited, particularly a pizza place he said was good.

Thanks for the responses so far! Majerle's sounds like a good place to go for this review. Can't wait to see Phoenix.

I head to PHX every season for games, love both Majerle's and Alicecooperstown. Both are right by the Arena.

Another popular place in the Downtown area is Pizzeria Bianco, very popular before games so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time.

If you have both the time and means to do some exploring, I'd recommend the desert botanical gardens, hiking camelback mountain, and exploring old town Scottsdale.

Thanks for those suggestions. I will be in the area for two days, so I will have plenty of time!

Back in the day, I used to hike Camelback mountain. Depending on shape, if I recall correctly, you can get up top between 25 minutes and maybe an hour. I also lived in old town Scottsdale for a couple of years, but I can't speak for what it's like now. It was great then. But if you stay near there, you have a ton of bars, restaurants, a great shopping mall with a Suns shop (I think) and it's just a great place. In fact, the reason I moved there was to be in walking distance to everything there. Around Scottsdale Road and Indian School road. The mall is just south of that on Camelback, west of Scottsdale road, and the bars/clubs, for the most part, at least from what I remember, are just east of Scottsdale road...from Indian School road to Camelback and even further north. Plus quite a few west of Scottsdale road.

However, when I moved from there, the scene started to move to north scottsdale, but it was a bit too upscale and fake for me...not sure all that stuff and the whole Scottsdale scene has transformed since then.

With bells on, mate.

I'm still thinking a cheeky Vegas Summer League trip first week of July, if by seasons end we are still benching the rooks. I'd much prefer that to seeing PJ log 35 minutes on opening night.

Just stay in touch and we'll work it out. I'll be in China in July unfortch but dead keen for November

Only way you'll see pj tucker playing 35 minutes in the suns 2017/2018 season opener is if we're playing against the team we dump him to next month lol
