So for no real reason, I got my weed card out here in CA week ago. Like MA, it's legal now, but not until 1/1/2018. Was once a quite regular smoker, but had only smoked maybe 3-4 times in 20 years since. Did a 2-minute phone interview with a doctor in Malibu who, for $39, assured me that I could benefit from medicinal usage, so I'm in. Seems legit.

Went to the dispensary a couple of days later when I got my official documentation, and I have a few thoughts on this biz...

Not sure what everyone was worried about turning this over to big brother, but take it easy. Legal weed is the stuff. Gone are the days of getting shorted on a bag of stems and seeds just because there was a "drought" or some dumb stuff like that. You won't stay in business long as a dispensary that way, and especially not here in NorCal where the weed is so good. I was famed for having the good stuff in my smoking days, but let me tell you, that stuff has come a long way with the use of hydroponic technology. This stuff is THE GOODS.

Maybe too good. I knew I kinda wanted to ramp up, and was really just looking for a cigar-type effect without the tobacco. So I got a CBD-only strain with minimal THC that doesn't really get you high. Knew I wanted nothing to do with oils or edibles, and while they don't sell them, add dabs to that list. But also wanted a minimally-get-you-high strain with it, and the budtender suggested a sativa-indica hybrid. OK, cool. Got an eighth of each, and they threw in a fat joint of this stuff called Gorilla Glue as a promotional thing. Supposed to be potent or something.

Started with the CBD strain. It was cool. Doesn't get you high, but I felt relaxed and guess I could see keeping up with that. Later on, I took one hit of the sativa-indica strain. Ohhhhhh shiiiiiii.... dudes. I mean, dudes. I was hiiiiiigh. I couldn't even go online I was so high. The whole idea of talking basketball with strangers or checking out the lives of people I used to know on Facebook was just too weird for me at that point in time.

Dude at work just graduated from college in Colorado, and when I told him about it, he was like yeah... first few times on a new strain can be intense. So I gave it a couple more times... and it got no less intense.

For whatever reason, I decided to give the Gorilla Glue stuff a hit just to see if a different strain agreed with me more. I had one hit like 24 hours ago, and I think I am still really high. I was so high that I instantly got massive chills and had to get under the covers. I was BAKED. Then, and I **** you not on this, there were three earthquakes within an hour last night. They were just over the Nevada state line maybe 100 miles from me, but you could definitely feel the shaking. I don't live in an earthquake area, and that **** was hard to process. I thought my house was alive, tbh.

Verdict: This **** ain't for me no more. This new generation done made their weed TOO STRONG.

P.S. Truth, can I get this **** to you somehow? lol

On Dec 26th I was at a concert of my favorite artist which was excellent & lasted more than 4 hours and my biggest impression was how this 63 y/o man can sing and talk that long without even resting, yet some who are half his age don't perform longer than 1.5 hours in total.

I grew up a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories.

I'm on a bit of a British-TV-show binge lately, and decided to watch "Sherlock." Excellent acting all around, impeccable production (hey, it's the Beeb!), but unfortunately the writing is not up to par. I know the show is a huge success in the UK, but as someone who knows the quality of the original stories I think the scripts leave a lot to be desired. Just too many outrageous twists -- they desperately need one Arthur Conan Doyle to lend a hand.

P.S.: A couple of incredibly hot women -- Irene Adler and Mycroft's assistant.

The thing about the Sherlock books is that they are cerebral more than anything else. Guy Ritchie's first Sherlock movie seemed more about the action to me. I didn't see Game of Shadows, though.

Yep, that is true but Ritchie's action scenes are different than your typical Hollywood action scenes. Game of Shadows does involve more intellect/battle of the wits between Holmes and Moriarty and is the better out of the 2.

It was excellent. Although, not on the same level of "Fences" (my favorite movie of the year), "Manchester By The Sea", "Moonlight", "Arrival" or even "Hacksaw Ridge" IMO. I haven't seen "Nocturnal Animals", "Patriot's Day", "Lion", "Silence" or "Loving" though. Therefore, I can't speak to those.

"Hell or Highwater" was up there as well. Although, I don't know if it will make my top 10, once I've seen those other 5.

Overall, great year for film. If you're into these types of films.

weed today is much stronger than it was 20-30 years ago. they say it can make you trip and the first bunch of times i smoked weed i was def trippin. i would close my eyes and get really intense visuals on par with visuals i see taking acid. worth mentioning that the first times i smoked was with a bunch of experienced stoners and we were smoking a massive steam roller. it wasn't like we smoked a .3 joint over 5 heads. they say weed isn't addictive or habbit forming but it absolutely is and I think the increased potency has everything to do with that. anyways education is the most important part of consumption and it's unfortunate they don't teach kids anything about responsible consumption. instead dare and the school system just spread a bunch of misinformation that makes kids question everything they are told.
