I know. You can actually learn valuable shyt from watching Seinfeld and Curb.

i never got into seinfeld, but i loved curb. but i believe larry david has stated that either seinfeld or georges' characters are based around him and his interactions throughout his real life during that time and before (seinfeld, not curb).

This an episode in Curb where Larry hooks up with Jason as Jason's office post-Seinfeld and Jason is complaining to Larry about how he can't get any work because he's been stigmatized as "George." Then as they commiserate over that, Jason starts getting worked up about it and starts calling the "George" character (i.e. Larry) stupid, jackass and moron which get Larry all mad and then an arguments ensues. Very funny.

The thing is, no one knows what happened to Rose's mom. People are so quick to shrug it off and assume. His mom could have been robbed, sexually assaulted, beaten, suicidal herself, suffered from a medical problem or so many crazy scenarios. If she's a victim or if it's medical, why would he talk about it? That would bring publicity to a victim (who may not want others to know) or violate HIPPA. He doesn't have to tell a damn person. People process things differently. If he got that feeling in the pitt of his stomach like somethings was going majorly wrong, then who knows what state he was in. The timing really isn't all that important. All that matters now is that he had a valid reason. Even then, it's not like it can be confirmed. Sometimes, all you can do is let things play out, see how he handles himself going forward and figure it out over time.

Even if ANY of that were true, it does not excuse not taking the 15 seconds needed to shoot your team a text message saying there was a family emergency and he is heading back to Chicago.
Nor does it excuse Rose admitting that he wasn't answering the Knicks calls (when they were wondering where he was at) because he "needed space".

He didn't need to tell anyone WHAT the issue was, but he did need to tell people that there WAS an issue. And the more that comes out, the more I think that the issue was HIM....as in HE needed a break and needed to be with his mom.

No one is saying that his actions were ideal. All I'm saying is that under certain circumstances, it's more understandable... You'd be amazed at how uncommon, common sense it. Obviously, not every player is a college graduate or even made it through high school based on merit. The NBA is not a normal company where each person has been interviewed and judged on their intellect. They have not gone through that "filtering out" process that most of us go through in society. They have always been graded based on totally different test. They were judged on their physique, athletic ability and potential. Therefore, you can't assume that they are the same as the employees where you and I work.

Obviously, many players are great. All I'm saying is that there are many interview tactics that increase the odds of hiring a professional person. First, they make you take a personality test. Second, they request transcripts and look over your job history. Third, they interview you face-to-face multiple times. Lastly, they call references. This weeds out many people that are unprofessional and unstable. The NBA does not do this so well. So, when something goes down, it's easy to see how a player may not act professional under certain circumstances.

well, I can say I haven't piled on at all. Been reading this thread, lmao at many of the posts. When the Knicks suck, this board goes bonkers. I just hope no everyone is OK, that this will be resolved and we'll continue to suck for the rest of the season.

Hope Phil decides to tank before it's too late. We could easily nose dive the rest of the season. Shut Melo down, give the keys to all the youngings for the rest of the season and move Quinn while he has value

This was entertaining but I really don't even care. Rose is just definitely not coming back, which is a ok with me.

I'm actually worried this was so insane that it toook pressure off of the losing streak and now they will bounce back.

I also think it's crazy he didn't get a suspension and that Phil didn't even make a comment today. I've lost a lot of faith in Rose/Phil/whole Knicks franchise pretty rapidly over last 24 hours. Amazing that two weeks ago I thought this team would be a five seed.

Forget all of us, what about your teammates? Just let someone know there are circumstances causing your absence. He let his teammates down first and foremost.

A suspension or a multiple game bench role would be in order. In addition throw him support in the form of counseling and access to a transport to his home in Chicago if you actually want to help the guy. You can show discipline and compassion at the same time. Hipaa doesn't stop Phil from a brief statement about the status of the organization. Rose isn't even the first guy to do this under Phil a year ago Fisher did the same. Fans of the team just want to know that this is not a rudderless dumpster fire.

in general, i think a lot of sports fans are bitter about athletes lives. there is a level of jealously that you always hear. about the money given to them to play a kid's game. it seems a charmed life. so they should always be on their best behavior and be as infallible as possible. they owe it to us the fans. but they're just flawed people like everyone else. and no matter how much you love your work, it will still feel like a job. the only real reason to be mad is if you wanted rose to return. and who the hell wants that.

This is 100% true. And that jealousy brings out all sorts of prejudices.

Then there are those of us that are mad at ourselves for not having the goddamn sense to watch better basketball when it's readily available. Of all people, I should know better. I've posted every single game available in the Around thread.

I hear you, but compassion for a guy in meltdown does not in any preclude a suspension. He should be suspended either way. Being depressed includes withdrawal, but if a guy won't answer the phone then he shouldn't be in the starting lineup either. So, yeah, get him some counseling if he needs it. I wouldn't get on anyone for that

During this mystery period I figured it was basically a mental fragility issue. And TBH, the thought I had several times is when you are this wealthy and you know you have tendencies then maybe you should have a therapist on retainer to call 24/7 anytime you're feeling down. Then you can talk without feeling like you're imposing on anyone else in your life. Would cost this guy $500 a month at most.

So maybe he's shy or somewhere on the spectrum, but that really doesn't exempt him from keeping people informed of his whereabouts.

I can have compassion for his state of mind and still hold him to a bare minimum standard of not completely ghosting on his teammates. It is what it is though
