Over the past 7 years, Gallo has been the teams best player, highest paid player. He is coming up on free agency. The Nuggets will have the money to sign him but there have been signs he doesn't fit with the future of the team, lack defensive focus and his consistency has and leadership have been less than desirable.
There are other players that could fit in better IF they sign, Otto Porter, Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors, etc. However, Gallo has stated he loves it here in Denver and probably could get more here than anywhere else. Not sure what his market value is, do we resign him and what does he get paid ?
For the record, I've always been a supporter of Gallo's but I think it's time to go (preferably via trade).

It's time. Needs to be traded, though. Not walk for nothing.

You mean like the Mcdyess resigning? I doubt Gallo is in Denver past the deadline, but who knows with our front office.

I hope not. Something tells me he'll command a max deal too.

Gallinari's a good role player but we don't have the star for him to play next to. He'd fit nice on a contender, even if it's off the bench. Can you imagine him playing against 2nd string players? His minutes might drop but his scoring probably wouldn't. I agree that he has too much value to not trade, but that should have been done last year before the trade deadline. His value is much less now. I suspect they decided last year they were going to resign him. <sigh>

Re: Do the Nuggets try to re-sign Danilo Gallinari ?
It surprised me to hear that Gallo refused a trade. First, didn't think he had a NTC and if he doesn't, the FO lacks a backbone (what I think is the truth). Second, I do wonder what the offer was and to what team that he'd refuse.
With the PO Gallo has, I can see him exercising it and becoming a free agent. I think he believes the Nuggets are his safety net, that they'll be ready to step up and sign him to a max contract, I hope for just the opposite. I think if Gallo DOESN'T get offered a max from another team, the Nuggets offer him a contract no more than $12-15M if any at all. While I do see Danilo getting a raise somewhere, I just hope it isn't here.

I can hear the back office discussions now.... "He's an asset, can't just let him walk! Let's offer him a deal with a slight hometown discount, hope he signs and see what we can get for him in the future".

Gallinari's play in London certainly had to boost his value. He played well on both ends of the court!

I agree that it is time to move on from Gallinari.
I wonder what Gallo can bring back in a trade? He could certainly help a contender, but what assets can we get for a rental? Apparently the Raptors and Clippers are interested, but I'm not too interested in anything they could offer.

The problem with trading Gallinari to any contender is they are all over the cap. That means they have to trade back a comparable salary - meaning probably a player contributing to their team. Unless they want to trade back two players or involve another team and the complexities grow. All that means, if they trade a comparable salary, they are less likely to add a young player or draft pick.

Re: Do the Nuggets try to re-sign Danilo Gallinari ?
On stiffs they had a trade machine proposal of Ross, Joseph, 1st for Gallo, Jameer.
Obviously that's not realistic anymore with Ross in Orlando. But something around Sullinger (exp.), Joseph, a 1st and Poeltl for Jameer and Gallo would be interesting.
It gives us a better perimeter defender in Cory Joseph, and this draft you can package Poeltl with two 1sts to move into the top 10-12 range... Perhaps. Or try to pry Decker, or Oubre, etc. Poeltl is a guy I'm not sold on, but he's a high pick so he's got that new car smell.
Just an idea, though it's not great, I like it more than Gallo for Rivers and a 1st (if they even have one). The Clippers would be so lucky to be bailed out by Melo's NTC, but I digress.
Earlier this week I said keep gallo, trade chandler. That's fine too, but honestly, gallo is not a 100% fit with Jok. It might be worth it to collect some assets so when we see that guy we want we can make a solid offer without hesitation. And that way you don't risk losing gallo after trading away chandler.
