He's a loyal dude for sure but you have to admit the super max did probably make things easier for him to re-sign haha

Congrats! Happy to see a small market organization commit to its talent, and have that commitment reciprocated by its talent. Y'all should rest easy, and be happy you won't have to deal with Celtics fans invading & derailing your board anymore lol

Damn that 5 years on top of his remaining deal, which locks him up till 2023! Wow.
It will be nice come July 1st to put "DeMarcus Cousins is going to leave" convo's to bed.

Re: CSN: Cousins to sign massive extension with Kings
No doubt Cousins deserves this money for his production. But should it be the Kings who pay him?
The current team's ceiling would seem to be 40-45 games and maybe 7th or 8th seed. But that would be a big improvement over their current pace and a huge jump over the two previous seasons.
If the team can get good trade value, like some picks or a couple of younger players, could that be a better course for the franchise long term?
It might mean instead of just getting in or missing the playoffs, the Kings fall enough to get high into the lottery. But if the Kings could get the Brooklyn first round pick from the Celtics in a trade, they could get two players in the top 10 or even top 5 in a supposedly strong draft.
Those picks may never turn out to be as good as Cousins, stats-wise. But Cousins is putting up incredible numbers now and the team isn't winning a ton of games.
If they don't make the trade, they can try to acquire talent through free agency, maybe a PG like Jrue Holiday (who appears to be the best PG choice in the next free agent class, given age and talent) and maybe an eventual replacement for Gay, who will be due an extension in 2018 but will be 31.
Part of the reason the Kings are giving this extension is that they need to keep their star and best player with the new arena. But they need to make significant changes to improve the team and the best way to improve the team may be to trade away the best asset.

I'm pretty sure anybody would be loyal if there was $207 Million in it for them.

The Kings could go 5-6 drafts with high picks and never see a talent like Cuz. Certainly not a big man. I'd still like to see Vlade get a chance to work this out and it looks like his safe bet moves this summer were warranted and in the end the right thing to do. Now he has a chance to continue stabilizing the team dynamic so when they look for players to put around Cousins they know there is a foundation there. Now it's up to Cuz to pick up the slack from there as a leader.
Some of the young guys Vlade drafted this last year are looking pretty good from what I can tell so now you have 3 decent prospects in the works that will now probably play with Cousins rather than replace him. Next year Bogdanovic is supposed to come over and Garrett Temple and Anthony Tolliver have been great additions so far. There is something to work with. The PG, SF, and PF spots are a bit up in there air, but we'll see what happens. PG is the only real hole if DC and Lawson don't re-sign.
One major wrinkle if Cuz is staying put is that it gives Vlade the chance to make a major trade this deadline to find a long term solution at one of those 3 positions of need and if the Kings lose some headway in this current PO race due to necessary adjustment time then it's worth it if it means they come out stronger next year.

Honestly I thought after the lottery balls fell Boogie was gone. Ive also said they should trade him asap. However my opinion was formed well before the new CBA news was released. $207M is hard to walk away from. Still, I had to trust the Kings to committ, which I wasn't sure they were willing to do. For example a few days ago Vlade was on the Jim Rome show and said he wanted to keep DeMarcus but that depended on what was being offered in trade...
Is resigning for $207M surprising? No. Getting to the point of mass extension if asked 12 months ago? God yes. Kings making the right move? Surprised.

Now it's all about putting that talent around him. Not sure if they should make a run for the 8th or just tank a little so that they don't have to send their pick to the Bulls and get a stud to go along with Cuz. Not sure if Kings can get a star from free agent without overpaying. At least you guys got some clarity in knowing what direction you will be going

I'm one of many Celtic fans that would love Boogie in Boston. But it's cool to see a guy stay put. I don't know how the kings can possibly build around him but I wish you luck!

100% agree with this IMO when it comes to bettering our roster or attempting to get value out of or trade this is what we do based on if their are deals to be had with these guys .
# 1 . You do not trade Cousins unless he has a 100% change of heart & then you trade him only if you get an outstanding return .
# 2 . You don't trade any current rookie or Bogdan
# 3. You do not trade Temple or Lawson at all ! You lean toward keeping Tolliver unless in Tollivers case you are getting better value for him then you have to consider trading him .
# 4. If you are thinking we would make the playoffs keep Koufas as he is a solid back up Center . If you are doubtful of that you trade him for a future middle - late # 1 pick I am sure we could get that or package him in a deal for a much better player position of need .
# 5 . I love Cauley Stein but if he does not fit in your system then just see above # 4 for what I would do but in his case a # 1 pick might be a little higher or about the same .
# 6. Barnes , Afflalo , Mac , Gay , Collison , Casspi & again Koufas , Stein & Tolliver could be had as well but only if getting real value .
# 7 . Lastly Vivek should consider firing himself . Lol ! He won't . However he has to take steps back & allow management to do their jobs . Vivek in terms of trades & or restricting management from doing what they need to do he is preventing the Kings from doing better than what they have so far .

Thrilled if this happens. I'll believe it once its done however.
But finally "official direction".
No more limbo land.
That's the real value for me is knowing what we are attempting to do long term now without question.
