Sadly, the Ds have gone all in on this... it is allowing them the opportunity to place blame anywhere else but on party, politics and position. And I see that as a bad thing. The 60M voters of the 218M eligible is nothing to sneeze at...

But, in the House, the picture was a bit different, Republicans took 56.3M vs. the Democrats 53.2M. I think this figure is more telling. The House was always meant as the bellwether of immediacy.

In the previous 8 years, Democrats had lost 900+ state legislature seats, 12 governorships, 69 House seats, 13 Senate seats. The trend had already been set when the Ds tragically let Hillary become the nominee and then get pulled hard to the left by Bernie. And yet they were sure of the outcome of the election and shocked by the results.

The Russian "thing" may be a good short-term way to distract the new administration.

I think that the Ds need to take a good long hard look in the mirror but I don't think it solves their root messaging problem.

The "deplorable" statement may have ended Clinton's perception as the presidential candidate of inclusion but any suggestion that it ended the Democrats as the party of inclusion is overblown, imo. The biggest mistake the Democratic Party could make is to change (or back away from) its core values and principles.

Cops violently arrest black man suspected of stealing car — that turns out to be his own

Evanston (Ill.) Police released a dash cam video on Wednesday of a 2015 interaction between an officer and a black engineering doctoral candidate accused of stealing his own car

Police pulled him over in a church parking lot, where Crosby was violently detained for stealing his own car.

“I understand being a police officer is a tough job, but we need them to exercise judgment in their day to day operations,” Miller said “And in this situation, within ten seconds of Mr. Crosby getting out of his car with his hands in the air, he was tackled, he was kneed while he was standing up, then he was punched repeatedly by multiple officers, for allegedly stealing his own car. Our police officers need to be better than that.”

Not really political (although the comic is), but had to share this...

Probably seen this 5 times since it came out, too funny...

Interesting that you say that. Going by the election results, Clinton did BETTER than the Democrats in the House, Senate and at the state levels. It would appear that the Democrat Party is in worse shape than Clinton herself.

That's messed up. His hands were up and he made no threatening gestures. I'm glad Mr. Crosby sued the police department.

That said, I wish the police in general did a better job of getting people to understand that when you get pulled over in a police stop, just turn off your car and put your hands at the top of the steering wheel. It's the least threatening position to be in. My guess is that it's protocol to take down anyone who gets out of their car without being instructed to do so. (That doesn't make it right, which is why I support the lawsuit.)

Wouldn't you start with the nouns, nate? I.e. ask for someone to define "racism" and "sexism"?

While you are at it, how about a definition for "antisemitism"? How about one for "conservatism"? Or "imperialism"?

Here's one to try: give me a definition of "Roman Catholicism"? Not an ostensive one, btw -- i.e. not "what Roman Catholics believe in" -- but an actual substantive definition, i.e. a description of what it is & what makes it what it is.

You do that one, and I'll do "antisemitism", ok? I'll even give you a preliminary glance on that: "prejudice against Jews" is not a definition of "antisemitism." It's not even a useful start at one (just as "prejudice against black people" is not a definition of racism, not even a useful start at one).

So. "Roman Catholicism" -- give it a shot, Nate. I don't have a trap waiting; I really don't! :)

The entire inauguration is a karmic bust. Trump, who must have his narcissism fed by large, adoring crowds, is going to be biggly disappointed. They are re-branding the balls as some other type of events because no REAL stars want anything to do with it.

I'm not really going for trump, but I live in downtown DC now, and have a lot of friends coming for the weekend (not for the inauguration) so I figured why not....

Hopefully BigA will be reporting on the Stub Hub inaugural ball ticket action. It may be my only chance to get into one
