Changing Cities
Hi all.
I've been a part of this forum for many years now, some more active then others. I used to love basketball as a teenager in the early 90s, which is when I started rooting for the Suns. As I grew older, other interests naturally took over and I barely followed basketball at all, since I am not even North American nor lived here.
I was in the US for a while in 2009, and was able to catch an away-Suns game in that fantastic season. That instantly reignited the fire, and I've been addicted to the team ever since.
But, this year, I moved to Boston now, where I'll be spending the next 4 years (at least).
It's obvious that our team has been putting an incredibly bad product on the court for many years now. Childress, Turkoglu and Warrick?? For real??
We got lucky with the DragonBlade thing, but even that was short lived. We managed to screw that up nevertheless.
It has been hard being a Suns fan.
But I moved to Boston now. The down years for any sports team here have never been many. They have a playoff team. A promising coach. A 5.9' all star player. All the picks you can imagine.
I'm aware some of you may label me as a bandwagon fan, and I'm ok with that, but...
...as hard as it may sound, I'm writing this message to say that I will continue to support the Phoenix Suns, cause we're going to have the best team ever when Knight is gone, we draft our PG of the Future this next draft and we unleash PG/Booker/Warren/Chris/Bender with Ullis as 6th Man of The Year, every year, forever.
Go Suns. Bless you all.

Re: Changing Cities
When I moved to charlotte, my allegiance to the suns never waivered one bit. I cheer for the hornets but once they play phoenix, that's it.
If you are moving to Boston, there's nothing wrong with cheering for them. It's fun. You can still be a fan from afar

Well I'm glad you didn't decide to become a Celtics fan. I grow such loyalty to teams I grow up pulling for I could never change my fandom regardless of where I live. I am a huge Chargers fan (NFL) and they are now moving from San Diego to LA which is ok for me, since I don't live there, but they are talking about possibly rebranding, and if they change the name and uniforms, at that point I don't know how I will feel. But knowing the players every year and pulling for them as a team is the important part, and being a fan and a loyal one is a good feeling, even when things are bad, because when things get good, and at some point they will, you will appreciate it even more.
I lived in San Diego (all Lakers fans) when we played the Lakers in 2006 and were on the ropes...I lived in SA when we had that epic series against them...even went to the game where Horry hip checked Nash into scorers table....the thought of becoming a fan of a new team never entered my mind so I am glad to hear you are sticking with the Suns. I also lived in Minnesota during KG's peak years and Denver for awhile...actually sat in a suite and Kiki Vandeweghe, GM at the time walked in to ask of if we were having a good time....I told him I knew the Suns assistant Phil Weber who he had run a basketball camp with. Funny having a conversation with a REAL GM.

Re: Changing Cities
I thought this was going to be a thread about the chargers moving or the suns moving to San Diego.
I can see how it would be hard to stay a suns fan right now when you don't have ties to the city.

Re: Changing Cities
Since I moved to Portland I also root for the Blazers. They were a young and exciting team so it wasn't hard to cheer them on. I've seen them make mistake this past offseason that I'm happy the Suns front office didn't do when we were in a similar situation. Still though, my loyalty is with the Suns. But it's good if you are at least up to date on local sports teams, that way you can talk to people around you about something without feeling like an outcast.

Re: Changing Cities
I've been enjoying watching other NBA teams play basketball the last 4 to 5 years and I actually look forward to watching those teams play since I know I'll be watching a competitive game that is entertaining and fun to watch.
The Suns are my team... Always will be... But Im in the stage that I cant stand half the players... I swear a lot because of the stupidity of what I see on court... I do enjoy trade deadline time as McD is not boring and he actually does press that trade button a lot... Which satisfies the inner GM in me... I like making moves... Good or bad lol.
Draft time he's also entertaining...
So both those times I absolutely root for the Suns to get the best results possible.
But in game?
After loss number 15 in the first quarter of the season... I actually cheer up when I see a loss... Yup... I like losses. But competitive losses... Where the youth played heaps and learnt a lot I assume.
So what Im saying is...
Its fine to "follow" a secondary team whilst this craphouse of a team rebuilds itself. It doesnt matter what city you live in... I lived in Michigan for a year and a half and I didnt follow the Pistons but I enjoyed their games (late 2000s). The game is global.
Life is too short to be miserable watching a sports you like because your team sucks....
I admit it. I like watching the Spurs, even Thunder last season not so much this season... I also like watching the Bucks, Cavs, Grizzlies.
I love basketball and I enjoy my time watching good teams play well.
When I want my blood pressure to go up and get angry I just tune into the Suns game... Where a close loss and good performance from the youth are the highlights!

This is a ridiculous thread.
It was supposed to be mildly funny among such a sad season. Wanted to make the reader guess I was going to change teams to then create humor by breaking expectations and stating SUNS FOR LIFE YEAH!!!
Found your answer gif pretty funny, btw.
Not trying to bring attention to my life at all. Not that kind of guy.
And no need to go aggressive mode on our dear mod as well.

Sure you can state your opinion but the more threads the better as long as they are not trolling, creating fake news, spam or completely inappropriate.
It's gotten far more posts than last year at this time with the exception of a couple of posters who brought down the forum and made good posters leave.
We have had many good new posters sign up because it isn't a **** show in here any more and the moderator team has worked hard to create a better, more light hearted place in yet another disappointing season.
If you and others don't want to participate in the Nashty voting so we can keep track for years of who were the best and worst players that seasons, that is anyone's prerogative. And Qwigglez puts a lot of time into game threads for everyone to enjoy.
If there are specific suggestions you have to improve the forum instead of telling people they have **** threads, by all means do it, but doing so in a constructive manner won't make you look like an ****. If anything, these kinds of things are the types of things that will make it a ghost town.
If you don't like the forum, feel free to find one that suits your tastes better.

... in recent times, yes. But twenty-five years ago, the Patriots were a perennial laughingstock. The Red Sox went eighty-five straight seasons without winning a World Series, and while the postseason in baseball represents a terribly flawed format for filtering out the best team, the Sox constituted a terrible club in the 1920s and early 1930s and then posted eight straight losing seasons from 1959-1966. All that losing came a long time ago, sure, but the Red Sox also recorded three straight losing campaigns from 1992-1994—although such a streak seems quaint compared to what the Suns are currently enduring. More significantly, perhaps, the Celtics actually posted a losing record for eight consecutive seasons from 1994-2001, missing the playoffs in seven of those years, including six in a row. What hurts, in a sense, is that the Celtics' most recent rebound came in part at Phoenix's expense due to a basic giveaway in the Isaiah Thomas trade. The Suns had given away a terrific guard to Boston before—in the Dennis Johnson trade in 1983. After acquiring Johnson from Phoenix for a minimal return, Boston played in the next four NBA Finals, winning two championships.
But these types of matters can go in cycles. Hopefully, after several wasted years reflecting incompetence and impatience, the Suns are on the right track with some of the young players that they have drafted. Unfortunately, Phoenix is still probably a few more years away from being a significant team in the NBA, but for the first time in about thirteen years, a bunch of young building blocks portending a brighter future may be in place. The difference is that these building blocks are more nascent and will require more time for development.

... not quite that long, but close. The Red Sox won the World Series in 1918—their third World Series title in four years and their fourth in seven years. Then they sold Ruth to the Yankees after the 1919 season and would not play in another World Series until 1946 and not win one until 2004.
