Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Mon Jan 9, 2017 1:25 pm

Daniel Lewis predicts the Nuggets draft another PG in this year's draft.

My mother does not allow me to use the words necessary to describe how I feel about that thought (and I moved away from home in 1973 LOL).

This draft is loaded, it certainly seems.

Nice thing for the Nuggets is they're in a position to draft BPA given where they're at, with the possible exception of a player who couldn't line up next to Jokic. I'd personally pull out a Malik Monk, even those he's been a blast to watch this year at UK, because I don't see the need for another 6'4" SG.

If we can get our hands on Fultz, DSJ, or Ball, I'm psyched to take a PG.

What, didn't like my thread ?? Lol

Heard some good things about the German PG, but can't see 3 drafts in a row at the same position. If we're at the 9th slot, still looking at OG Anunoby at the SF position. Defensive stud with 7'4 wingspan. Good shooting mechanics expected to get better on the offensive end

Tough to get conversation on this topic.......but I have been known to talk to myself

While I don't think I'd risk our early pick, should PF Harry Giles continue to drop (DX has him down to 12) would you move up or trade for a pick to get him ?? He was projected to be the #1 pick at times (so was Skal last year though) but his two knee surgeries have really limited exposure with his recoveries. Some say he lost his explosion but with those type of surgeries, it usually takes 18-24 months to fully recover. My man, Chuck Everett says no (and I do highly respect his opinion) but I'd love to see us trade up for a chance to get a young PF to put next to Jokic.

Giles could def be a good gamble because he should fit well w jokic.

Josh Jackson and Tatum have to be big targets. Hadn't thought about og A as a fit for the nugs but he sure could be. Florida st guy is intriguing too. Think it will be a 2/3 depending on where the pick falls

Glad you're laughing. It looks like this is our third 2017 Draft thread. Maybe I should make one a "sticky".

Jackson will be a top 3 pick, unless we get really lucky in the lottery (NBA won't let that happen) that's just a bit of a outta reach. Tatum may be possible if we remain around our lucky #7 slot but still a bit on the outside looking in. I so agree SF seems to be our target area.

OK, because Sky is pushing us to discuss this, I took a more serious look at things. I'm not very big on college games and I prefer to wait until March Madness to do serious evaluations. With that said, I took a look at one site's top 20 prospects.

With our first pick, I would not consider PG or SG or C unless there is someone there with GOAT probability. As deep as this draft is and as good as some of these players look, I think there are forward options that suit the Nuggets very well. Again, that's only with the first pick.

Ivan Rabb - maybe
Harry Giles - my likely first choice at PF
Isaiah Harenstein - interesting

OG Anunoby - my first choice at SF - no question - leading candidate for the Nuggets in my opinion
Miles Bridges - might be nice
Rodions Kurucs - interesting
Jayson Tatum - second pick
Josh Jackson - second pick

Obviously I won't argue about any of them too much. My biggest worry is that OG Anunoby will be gone before our pick. He might still be available because I expect about 4 or even 5 PGs drafted in the first 10 picks. Also, OG is predicted anywhere from #9 to second round, depending on whose mock draft you watch.

One of the unknown factors in this draft is our own Juancho Hernangomez. Is he a SF or a stretch 4 ?? With his shooting ability and size, he really can play either position, giving us flexibility to select the best forward available at our earliest pick, then BPA with the MEM pick

Wouldn't it be nice if we gave him some playing time to figure out what kind of player he is?
In his only D-league game, he actually played some center. Don't tell Malone!

Juancho just does not have the lateral quickness or speed to defend many of the small forwards around the league, especially with so many teams playing small I do not see how he could be effective at SF.

Well, the league is all about the matchups, pair Juancho with Chandler and have Chandler cover the SF on the defensive end. On the offensive end, Juancho has 3pt range or has the size to post up most SF's in the league. Not saying it' is a final solution but it can be done.

yeah but why pair Juancho with Chandler at the SF when you can have a legitimate SF and play Chandler at the 4

I would prefer to see Gallinari & Chandler play 24 mpg each at SF. It would help reduce the likelyhood of more injuries and give Hernangomez some playing time at PF. I'm OK with him there but I strongly object to Malone not allowing rookies to play much.

OG Anunoby out for the rest of the season creates questions about 2017 draft status.

Will he enter ? How far could he drop ?

Would love to get him with our lower pick, we'd have the time to wait on his development 8-)

Right now I believe that the 2 best draft pick the Nuggets should try to select is

PF Harry Giles and SF OG Anunoby

With the Nuggets draft pick looking to be around 15 & 20, we're going to have to take a couple of chances to get talent that'll help this team. Both Giles and Anunoby are injured which should drop their stock. Were they both healthy, they'd both be top 10 picks IMO.

Giles has had two ACL injuries during his HS years, yet he is just coming back to play for Duke. He's surely a one-n-done. Prior to his 2nd ACL he was the consensus #1 overall pick. His explosiveness, rebounding and defensive presence had people comparing him to Chris Webber. However, just returning his explosiveness seems to have taken a hit so far, there are those that wonder if he'll ever be the same. I feel it usually takes two years to fully recover from those types of injuries, so if I'm right imagine him next to Jokic for the next 10 years. He's still a good rebounder, can block shots so even if he becomes Juancho's backup while he rocovers, it's a chance I'm willing to take.

OG Anunoby just suffered a knee injury but was Indiana's top defender at SF, sounds like something we could use. A projected lottery pick, he's been one of my favorite prospects in this draft. He's already got NBA size at 6'8" 235lbs. He's not a full blown scorer but has nice form on his shot, some anticipate he'll develop much as Leonard did for San Antonio.

While I don't think we will be able to get both with out current slotting in the draft, I'd bet we only have to trade up for one and we do have the ammunition to do so. Imagine surrounding Jokic with two defensive studs likened to Chris Webber and Kawhi Leonard....oh yeah, I can dream big !!

Just noticed the MEM pick is down to the 19th pick, their early season success is waning so far, maybe father time is catchingh up to them. Gasol and Conelly are still playing at All-Star levels but not much supporting those guys. I can see them dropping a a couple more spots, we even have a chance to play them in the next five games, maybe we can help our own cause. I can see them finishing out at the 17th spot, which in this draft seems to be a pretty good opportunity.

Do you think the Nuggets will end up in the lottery? Not sure if Portland will get it together again this year like they did last year. Don't think anyone else below the Nuggets will catch them.
