This coincided with Rozier being back in the rotation and getting heavy minutes while Smart's good shooting stretch occured when Rozier barely played or didn't play at all.

Smart's TS% with Rozier on the floor dips 10% compared to when he's on the bench. (43.1% vs. 53.8%). Data from nbawowy doesn't include last night's game. There might be a correlation here.

How do you interpret this data? Do you really think it's Rozier's fault that Smart is missing shots?

Not saying that it's Rozier's fault but it might be worth looking into if the pairing isn't clicking or isn't beneficial for either. Maybe Smart gets to handle the ball more when Rozier's off the floor. Maybe he gets to his sweet spots when he's the playmaker rather than a spot-up shooter. Maybe the offense is less stagnant when playing with starters than the second unit. FWIW, Marcus shoots better with IT on the floor than off. I noticed IT plays more offball when Smart's on the court with him.

Zach Lowe's Ten things I like and don't like

5. Marcus Smart, venturing into the post

In the playoffs, teams bust out matchup-specific strategies they might not bother with in the regular season. They aim to surprise. They go to greater lengths to shut down one weapon, and dare you to find a counter.

One such gambit for which Boston must prepare: teams slotting bigger wings onto Isaiah Thomas, and hiding their point guards on Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, or even Jae Crowder. This doesn't scare Boston, and it shouldn't. Nothing scares Isaiah Thomas. Put Leonard on him, and Thomas still thinks he can rain step-back fire.

Bradley can shoot over some little point guards, and Smart is developing a bruising post-up game -- one he broke out this week, when Atlanta assigned Thabo Sefolosha to Thomas and stashed its point guards on Smart:

Versatility is everything the playoffs. It is adapt-or-die territory. Smart's proficiency on the block gives Brad Stevens another tool.

Between his defense and now his passing, it seems that Smart has keen understanding of how to hinder or help the scoring of others.

When Rozier plays he ends up on the ball, and Smart off it. When Smart's off ball he ends up shooting worse, get's to the line less etc. And Rozier sucks at running the offense.

Annnnnnddddddddddddd the Elfrid Payton backers can rejoice.

They were right all along as was I.

I still like Smart, he has become a good point guard but........Elfrid Payton is an NBA Starter , sick point guard.

You are the worst type of basketball fan to talk to you. You are driven by emotion and homer ism and hate.

Elfrid is a pretty good defender. He has more blocks , he has just as many steals. He may not be a better defender but he was defender of the year in college in his conference. He also is a good defender statistically.

What seperates him is that he can actually play offense really well. Smart cannot yet.

What seperates them is that Elfrid had a skillset that was very good, the average fans did not see that.

Smart's got the better RPM, PTPM, and set of nuts. I suspect Payton's may be damaged from a weird Wiz fan hanging on them.
